As part of the agreement, Columbia will also receive millions in federal research funding, conditional on meeting President Donald Trump's equality standards. "While Columbia does not admit to wrongdoing with this resolution agreement, the institution's leaders have recognized, repeatedly, that Jewish students and faculty have experienced painful, unacceptable incidents, and that reform was and is needed," the Ivy League institution said in a statement.

The settlement will resolve multiple civil investigations into Columbia. Under the terms, both Columbia and federal monitors will oversee compliance and report progress directly to the government. In addition to the $200 million, Columbia will pay $21 million to individuals in connection with claims brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The university will pay the $200 million over the next three years. "This agreement marks an important step forward after a period of sustained federal scrutiny and institutional uncertainty," Columbia's acting President Claire Shipman said. "The settlement was carefully crafted to protect the values that define us and allow our essential research partnership with the federal government to get back on track."

Columbia University is now the first higher education institution to reach a settlement with President Donald Trump's administration over allegations of antisemitism. The university was one of 10 under investigation as part of Trump's Federal Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, launched in response to a rise in antisemitic incidents on college campuses.
