According to Ephraim Hardcastle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was an elitist.
"Andrew, reduced to the rank of commoner, finds himself in the awkward position of having to bow to the rest of the family — including his own daughters," Hardcastle told Daily Mail.

Ephraim Hardcastle claimed Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was "quite boorish" toward Kate Middleton, who grew up outside of the British aristocracy.
"A firm believer in the exalted status of blue blood, Andrew didn't exactly make Kate feel welcome, insisting on deference and curtsies from the awkward newcomer," Hardcastle continued. "Kate may be forgiven for enjoying a little schadenfreude just now."

Royal biographer Robert Hardman noted that now Andrew Mountbatten Windsor will have to curtsy when greeting his relatives.
"He will have to bow to everybody, that's assuming he's in the room with the rest of the family," Hardman said.

The royal family's official website states there are no "obligatory codes," but "many people wish to observe the traditional forms."
