Christina Applegate recalled that she used to be a size zero and very thin — but even then, she never felt satisfied with her appearance. After her MS diagnosis, she went through 15 hours of steroid treatments, which caused her to gain 40 pounds.
"Everything just went like a f****** blob," she said.
It wasn't until two years later, in the lead-up to receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, that she realized she no longer looked like herself, thanks to "medications and the ravages of the disease."

"For all the joy of finally getting my star, it was still humiliating and horrible and devastating to be seen this way. Not just because I was bigger – that was one thing – but because the girl who had control all her life no longer had that control," Christina Applegate said. The ceremony was bittersweet, leaving her painfully aware of how much her body had changed.
"I want to throw up when I think of the pictures that are out there of me. I look sad and embarrassed. Because all I can think is: Everyone is staring. Once people stared at my b****. But now I knew they were staring not only because I was disabled; they were staring because I was fat, forever an unacceptable fate for women in Hollywood," she continued.

"Sometimes the weight bothered me more than the disease. I didn't look in the mirror for a year," Christina Applegate admitted. However, everything changed once she adjusted her diet.
"Then I was put on a clear‑liquid diet because of my stomach issues, and all of a sudden, everything just dropped off of me. Within seven months, all of it was gone, and I was down by 50 pounds or more. These days, my legs are tinier than they've ever been," she claimed.

Christina Applegate has been open about her health battles over the years, including undergoing a double mastectomy in 2008 after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. In 2017, she discovered she had the BRCA1 gene mutation, which put her at higher risk for cancer, and decided to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Today, her health challenges mean she can't eat just anything, as her stomach issues can become serious enough to land her in the hospital.
Despite these limitations, the actress said her relationship with food is now much healthier.
"This is the sickness. But she's not going to win," the actress concluded.
