Ricky Gervais, never one to shy away from causing controversy, has riled up social media after calling himself "middle aged."
The 62-year-old British comedy star made the statement while replying to a tweet about his upcoming Netflix special.
Soon after, many of his followers mocked him for his age declaration.

On Christmas Day 2023, "The Office" creator Ricky Gervais will release a Netflix special from his box office record-breaking "Armageddon" tour.
"Happy Birthday, Jesus!," he penned on X, formerly Twitter. After reading the post, a fan wondered, "Is it suitable to watch with my Nan and Gramp on Christmas Day?"
Ricky replied, "Depends. Do they enjoy watching a middle age man swearing, joking about the holocaust and pretending to w*** off a paedophile?"

While Ricky Gervais's message was certainly intended to be funny, others couldn't get past the fact that he called himself "middle aged."
"Calling yourself middle aged at 62 is a bit of a stretch," one person commented. Another wrote, "You consider yourself middle age? That's funny."
"Sir you are a pensioner," another age critic argued.

While some people argued about his age, others marveled at it and proclaimed that they assumed he was much younger.
"I thought this guy was like 45, 62 is crazy," one person shared. Another wrote, "Wow he looks good for his age."
Someone even asked, "Have you lost weight, or is your marketing team looking for a bonus…. Looking sharp."
The comedian replied that he was surrounded by "good lighting."

Ricky Gervais's "Armageddon" tour has already made more than $28 million. He also set attendance records in Canada and at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
After setting a ticket-sales record at the Hollywood Bowl, he was given a certificate that read: "The highest gross for a single stand-up performance is $1,790,206.50 and was achieved by Ricky Gervais at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, USA on 6 May 2023."
