Royal commentator
Jasmine Carey wrote in an opinion piece for the
Daily Express, saying that "many fans believe the couple don't deserve such an award."
"So to receive an award for their work in the mental health sphere, specifically helping make the internet a safer place, is of course controversial," Carey continued.

At the New York City event,
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were honored for their Archewell charity and commitment to digital safety.
"Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology's benefits while safeguarding against its dangers," Meghan told the crowd while accepting the award. "And that hopeful intention of separation is rapidly becoming impossible."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to advocate against cyberbullying, but Jasmine Carey noted that their public comments about the royal family opened the door for negative commentary online.
"Did they make the internet a safer place for the royals when they hurled accusations against them, which led to a stream of online criticism towards the Firm?" Carey asked.

Royal expert
Richard Fitzwilliams made similar comments about Meghan Markle and
Prince Harry receiving the distinction.
"Despite the work they have undoubtedly done to highlight mental health issues … surely, they are the wrong winners for this sort of award," Fitzwilliams told
Fox News. "Both Meghan and Harry are estranged from their families and have launched deeply destructive attacks on the royal family for their personal and financial gain. Surely, winners of such an award should be positive in approach."
