Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reflected on their close relationship with Dr. Jane Goodall in
a statement. "Dr. Jane Goodall DBE was a visionary humanitarian, scientist, friend to the planet and friend to us. Her commitment to changing lives extends beyond what the world saw and also to what we personally felt," the couple said. "She held our son,
[Prince] Archie, when he was first born and showered love and care to those who were privileged to know her. She will be deeply missed."

Social media users criticized
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for using Dr. Jane Goodall's
death as an opportunity to speak about themselves. "That's what those clowns decide to mention – an irrelevant humblebrag. That's how important they think they are and have to let us all think they were SUCH good friends that she held Prince Archie," one person wrote on X. Complained a second, "Instead of celebrating Jane Goodall's outstanding work, [Meghan] has to point out 'she was a friend to us' as if that's some great achievement. Who cares? She must've been friends with loads of people." Said a third, "Typical of them to make the passing of an accomplished lady about them!"

Spare author and Meghan Markle after they welcomed Prince Archie. "Meghan came in to listen with Archie," Jane recalled in an interview. "He was very tiny and very sleepy. Not too pleased to be passed from his mummy."
