Richard Dalton claimed Princess Diana "did her own makeup" most of the time. "Unless she was doing a portrait or something like that," he recalled in a recent
interview. "If it were like a photo shoot or official pictures with
King Charles III or the boys. Then, yes, it would be a makeup artist. But I had to be very careful when she was putting her eye pencil on, like, 'Oh god, I don't want to blind the princess!'"

While Princess Diana knew how to do her own makeup, Richard Dalton said she "didn't need" any of it. "She was just flawless — her skin," he
gushed. "Looking at her, she was so incredibly beautiful in real life. More so than in any picture. She never needed a foundation on her face because her skin was just so beautiful. An English rose."

During his time working for Princess Diana, Richard Dalton got to know
Prince William and
Prince Harry. "I was doing a treatment on [Diana's hair] one afternoon and the boys came in," he remembered. "The treatment I was doing smells quite a bit." The stylist recalled the young Duke of Sussex yelling, "It smells like bees!" and the teenage Prince of Wales claiming the scent was reminiscent of human waste. "Diana went, 'Get out, William!'" Dalton recalled.

Richard Dalton did not style Princess Diana's hair when she married King Charles III in 1981, and the mother of two later told him she "hated" the way she looked that day. "Diana said to me, 'I wish we could redo the wedding. Just to get the hair right,'" he claimed.
