Over the years, Chris Martin has perfected a crankypants expression for use when a camera is pointed his way. But the Coldplay frontman was positively beaming on Thursday night in Brooklyn as he inducted Peter Gabriel into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Even more noticeable than Martin's uncharacteristic happy face (is this what happens when one is no longer eating a GOOP-approved diet?) was his wedding ring-less finger, a consequence of his "conscious uncoupling" with Gwyneth Paltrow after ten years of marriage (purportedly open at times) and two uniquely named children.

"He seemed very much at ease and didn't seem affected by the split," a spy tells Us Weekly.

And where was Gwyneth while a newly tanned Chris was making the scene in New York? She was spotted looking less than cheery as she left a dental office in Los Angeles. It wasn't clear whether her ring, which was on prominent display during a birthday tweet to son Moses, was still on her finger.

As for Paltrow and Martin looking "lovey-dovey" last Sunday while attending Robert Downey Jr.'s birthday party, one churlish insider takes exception to that description of their interaction.

In a story we urge you to take with a barrel full of salt, the source tells Radar Online that Martin is "fed up with Gwyneth's childish antics."

"Yes, they did attend mutual friend Robert Downey Jr.'s birthday party over the weekend, but trust me, it was more Gwyneth hanging all over Chris!" snipes the mole. "She only makes these grand gestures in public. Behind closed doors, she is as cold as ice! It's all a game to Gwyneth. She is deliberately putting out a message that all she has to do is snap her fingers and Chris will come running back. But in reality, it is not true."

An onlooker gushed to People that the estranged pair "were lovey-dovey and playful" at RDJ's party. "They were with the kids, they held hands and laughed and joked as a family. It was not the typical picture of a divorce. If the reports had not come out you would think, 'Wow, they are a perfect couple.' … It felt like they have a genuine love for each other, to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if a report came out in a couple of weeks that they are back together."

Did Gwyneth want to pretend all was well?
