Trump Administration Takes Credit for Egg Price Drop but Warns of Easter Surge
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins addressed reporters on Tuesday, March 11, touting a recent decrease in egg prices while warning that the seasonal Easter demand would cause a temporary increase."A good piece of news we just got in the last day or two is that the average cost of a dozen eggs has now gone down $1.85 since we announced our plan about a week and a half ago," Rollins stated.
However, she cautioned, "We're going into Easter season. This is always the highest price for eggs. We expect it to perhaps inch back up, but a good piece of news since we released our plan."

Egg Prices at the Center of Political Debate
The rising cost of eggs has become a flashpoint in the political battle over inflation and economic policies. President Donald Trump and his allies previously blamed former President Joe Biden for the price spikes, using them as an example of economic mismanagement. Now, with egg prices still projected to rise by 41 percent this year, Democrats are seizing the opportunity to challenge Trump's economic record. The issue highlights the broader debate over inflation and whether the administration's economic policies can effectively bring down consumer costs.
Avian Flu and Supply Chain Disruptions Continue to Drive Prices
While political arguments rage, the egg industry continues to grapple with the ongoing impact of avian flu, which has decimated poultry stocks and disrupted the supply chain.Experts widely agree that the outbreak remains the primary factor behind skyrocketing egg prices, though some critics claim that major producers are artificially inflating costs to boost profits.
The USDA has increased efforts to contain the virus and stabilize the market, but economists predict that prices will remain high for the foreseeable future.
Trump and His Allies Claim Victory in Price Reduction
President Donald Trump wasted no time taking credit for the drop in egg prices, telling Congress, "Joe Biden especially let the price of eggs get out of control — the egg prices out of control. We're working hard to get it back down."His supporters echoed the sentiment, with White House rapid response manager Greg Price posting on X, "So much for the Democrat talking point that President Trump was personally responsible for the increase in egg prices."
The administration is using the issue as a talking point to defend its handling of the economy.
Democrats Push Back, Blaming Trump's Economic Policies
Democrats are reportedly not letting Donald Trump control the narrative on inflation, arguing that his policies — particularly his escalating trade war — are fueling price increases.Rep. Josh Riley (D-NY) took aim at Washington's handling of the issue, saying, "After three years of egg prices skyrocketing and nobody around this place doing a g****** thing about it, people are really, really frustrated."
With the cost of consumer goods remaining a top concern for voters, the battle over who is to blame for rising prices is only set to intensify.
