1. Wash Your Hands
Lather, rinse and repeat! The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims you should constantly wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds at least before cooking, eating and after every trip to the bathroom. If you are unable to access a sink, hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol is also a quick fix. However, washing your hands is still the best route to go.
2. Wiping Down Surfaces
It's imperative to wipe down everything with disinfectant, especially when dealing with norovirus, which spreads through contaminated surfaces. The CDC recommends using a chlorine bleach solution for any of your cleaning needs. It's advised to clean off cellphones, doorknobs, light switches or anything that makes contact with human skin numerous times throughout the day.
3. Keep Your Hands Away From Your Face
Just as you would to avoid acne breakouts, keeping your hands off your face will also help curb sickness.Illness can be spread to each person through talking, coughing and sneezing. Therefore, you may want to consider wearing an N95 mask when you are around large groups of people. Also, always make sure you are using a tissue when you cough, sneeze, or blow your nose.
4. Get a Vaccine
Although there is no vaccine to combat norovirus or the common cold, the flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine are available to help curb illness.People 60 years old and up are advised to get the RSV vaccine.
5. Take Time to Rest
Even though we all have busy days filled with work obligations, family responsibilities, trying to get a workout in and more, getting sleep is the best thing you can do for your immune system.Laying low, drinking lots of water and getting a full eight hours of sleep is how you can properly maintain your health.
6. Stay Home If You Are Sick
If you are feeling a hint of illness, you must cancel your plans and stay home. Although you may miss out on fun events, make some tea, turn on your favorite show and cuddle up on the couch. If you are unsure about whether or not you're sick, take an at home test or take your temperature to see if you need to kick back and relax.
