Tensions flared during a panel discussion on CNN over President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's government budget slashing.
Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary appeared alongside New Jersey Congressman Tom Malinowski on the Monday, February 24, episode of Laura Coates Live, where the businessman declared the nation's leader and the tech mogul should continue to cut the country's spending despite people losing their jobs.

"Keep slashing, keep hacking, while you have a 24-month mandate before the midterms," the television star declared. "Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, more, more cutting. Believe me, it's going to work out just great. Everybody should be happy about this. Cut everything."
O'Leary even implied Trump and Musk's moves weren't severe enough. "All of these agencies are like big fat chickens dripping over barbecues of fat. This is the best barbecue I've ever seen. But I don't think it's happening fast enough," he claimed. "They're not cutting enough."

Despite all of the investor's bold statements, Malinowski intervened only when O'Leary claimed we've "never audited [the] government for 100 years."
"It helps to know some things if we're going to have this debate," the former assistant secretary of state clapped back. "Every agency of the federal government is audited by independent inspectors general. USAID was audited over 60 times last year and one of the first things the Trump administration did was to fire all of the inspectors general."

Malinowski turned up the heat by claiming O'Leary was ill-informed about government practices and could not treat everything like a business.
"They fired the auditors, Kevin! What you're talking about ['deep cuts'] might work for a company that makes widgets, because we can do without the company that makes widgets for a few months while you get in there [and] restructure it," the politician spat at the millionaire. "You can't do that to the FAA unless people aren't going to fly in planes for the next four or five months. You can't do that to the Department of Defense unless you don't want to defend this country for the next four or five months."

Malinowski continued to insist having hardworking people lose their jobs is not the solution to free up funds for the country.
"It's ridiculous that we're even having this argument. And I'm someone who believes there's waste in government and there's ways to get at it," he explained. "But not by firing everybody first, shutting things down, while you investigate. Do the investigation work with Congress, work with these employees, do it right. It's been done before."

The Democrat then took a swipe at O'Leary's TV gig. "This may work on Shark Tank, but it's not a company that you take over and dismantle and sell for parts because you want to do it in a different way. You have to do things in accordance with the Constitution," Malinowski shadily noted.
