According to internet fashion expert
Rebecca Uesugi, Meghan Markle purposely evokes Princess Diana. "I do believe this is intentional as Meghan wants these comparisons to be made," she told
Daily Express. "Meghan seems to take it to a much different level. From her mirrored body language to certain color combinations or choice in accessories."

Rebecca Uesugi highlighted Meghan Markle's 2019 visit to Birkenhead, during which she wore Princess Diana's signature purple and red combination. The former Princess of Wales wore the same palette on trips to Hong Kong, Nigeria, India and on numerous other occasions.

Despite the flattering gesture toward Princess Diana, Rebecca Uesugi thinks Meghan Markle takes it to a new level. "Her [Meghan]'s purple and red outfit worn in Birkenhead back in 2019, the deliberate sunglasses placement in Rwanda or the entire outfit, right down to the shoes worn in Nigeria during the last morning and flight home," she said, citing the attention to detail.

Though Meghan Markle gets criticized for dressing like Princess Diana, people are also intrigued by her. "This is one hundred percent for public impact. Let's not forget the old adage 'bad press is still press' and moves like these keep her in the press and a hot topic on social media," Rebecca Uesugi said.

If Meghan Markle continues to follow in Princess Diana's footsteps, she'll never create her own fashion legacy. "This completely undermines any credibility," Rebecca Uesugi said. "I have read that Meghan wants to establish herself as a prominent figure in the fashion world, but to do so she really needs to figure out who she is first and foremost."

"I think her style should reflect who she is. A mother of two, a businesswoman and whether people like it or not, a celebrity," she continued. "She should lean into the California designers that she enjoys and sometimes showcases, but she does need to introduce a little more color into her wardrobe."
