A Kansas City sports reporter passed away while covering the Super Bowl.
Telemundo KC and Tico Sports confirmed the death of Adan Manzano, 27, who was working in New Orleans. La., when he was found dead in a hotel on Wednesday, February 5. The tragic news comes less than a year after his wife was killed in a car accident.

"Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work," the station said in a statement. "We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community."
Manzano's employer made it clear they would be "cooperating with authorities as they investigate this tragic event."

According to the autopsy, there were no apparent signs of trauma on the journalist's body. Manzano's cause of death is pending.
Per CBS affiliate WIBW, his wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, died in a car accident on April 11, 2024. Together, the two share a young daughter named Eleanor.

"Ashleigh was the kindest, caring, beautiful person. Her sparkling personality was contagious and would light up any room she walked into. She was a ray of sunshine and always had a smile on her face. Ashleigh touched so many lives and had a positive influence on everyone she met! She was a mother to 15-month-old Eleanor, who became Ashleigh's entire world," her obituary read.

"Bringing that to the Spanish community because the Hispanic and Latinos — they've supported soccer culturally and historically, but there's always a space where football can be the favorite sport. That's why I think it's important," Manzano noted.

On Friday, February 7, a Louisiana woman with a history of drugging men and stealing their money was arrested in connection to Manzano's death.
According to NBC News, 48-year-old Danette Colbert was caught on security cameras entering and leaving the news anchor's hotel room around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspect then allegedly used Manzano's credit cards at multiple spots around town.
Per the authorities, the investigation "remains ongoing." However, Colbert has been "charged with property crimes, including fraud and theft-related offenses."
