The death threat against President Donald Trump labels him an "enemy of Allah" in retaliation for the U.S. strikes in Iran. "We pledge to award the prize to whoever can bring the militants and those who threaten the life of the Deputy of Imam Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him) to justice for their actions," the Blood Covenant's website says.

According to the U.S.-based Middle East Media Research Institute, the Blood Covenant functions "under the aegis of the Iranian regime." The institute reports that the group cites verses from the Quran, urging followers to "strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah." MEMRI said in its analysis, "This is a call to jihad, inviting believers to donate their money and sacrifice their lives. The poster lends religious legitimacy to assassinating President Donald Trump."

Max Lesser and Maria Riofrio, analysts with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), said they had identified an Iranian national allegedly tied to the Blood Covenant. "The man apparently behind it, Hossein Abbasifar, appears to have once worked for Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the regime's main propaganda network," the analysts wrote. The FDD linked Abbasifar to the fundraising operation using metadata from the Blood Covenant's website.

A State Department official told The Washington Free Beacon that President Donald Trump's administration is aware of the threats and committed to taking action against those responsible. "This means using every tool at our disposal, including sanctions, to implement the president's maximum pressure strategy," the official said.
