Melanie Griffith files for divorce from Antonio Banderas after 18 years of marriage

After nearly two decades of togetherness (a lifetime in Hollywood), it's the end of the line for Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. Following persistent rift rumors, the actress, 56, has filed for divorce from the Spanish star, 53, citing the usual irreconcilable differences, reports TMZ.
"We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together," they said in a statement.
Melanie is asking for spousal support, along with child support for their daughter, Stella. She's also asking for sole physical custody and joint legal custody, although since Stella turns 18 in September, any custody issues won't last long.
According to TMZ, the split is "amicable," although division of their many properties in the United States and Spain is expected to be "a little complicated."
This will be Melanie's fourth divorce (she married Don Johnson twice and also tied the knot with actor Steven Bauer); it's Banderas' second divorce.
No word on what she plans to do with her sizable "Antonio" arm tattoo.
"I saw this sweet, vulnerable soul, funny, also very smart and generous," Antonio has said of their first meeting.
"Being with him has taught me a lot about passion for life," Melanie gushed in 2010. Two months ago, she tweeted a photo of an ecstatic Banderas on a yacht.
