It was another wholesome New York weekend for Katie Holmes, who was photographed teaching 6-year-old Suri how to ride a bicycle. Their training-wheel time comes on the heels of a mother-daughter trip to the actress's hometown of Toledo, Ohio, where they visited with her extended family.
But the getaway doesn't seem to be sitting well with Tom Cruise's camp, who are taking an oddly aggressive stance against talk that this was the first time Suri had mingled with her cousins.
"Katie visited Ohio with Suri many times" during the marriage, a source insists to People. "To say Tom prevented anything is a gross lie. He not only didn't prevent [Suri having a relationship with Holmes' family] but encouraged it and paid for it!"
The payment part is a major sticking point with the insider, who also grumbles that Cruise picked up the tab for Katie's family to attend Suri's early birthday parties. The snitch goes on to gripe that Holmes even spent one whole Thanksgiving in Toledo with Suri (but sans Tom, who was filming in Austria).
Leaving aside the fact that bean-counting on who paid for plane tickets is petty and contentious in a committed relationship, Camp Cruise couldn't paint their point with broader strokes: Despite rumors to the contrary, Tom (and, by extension, the Church of Scientology) didn't isolate Katie from her loved ones.
"Her entire family spent at least two Christmases with Tom and Katie in Telluride," harrumphs the spy. "[He] also invited the family – cousins included – to New Orleans this past [spring] for the Final Four."
Cruise recently treated Suri to a ridiculously over-the-top trip to Disney World.
