Barrymore's struggles started early on: She famously had her first drink at 9, started smoking marijuana at 10, and at 12 started using cocaine. By the time she turned 14, she'd already been in rehab twice. "You can't live your life blaming your failures on your parents and what they did or didn't do for you," she told The Telegraph in 2010. "You're dealt the cards that you're dealt. I realized it was a waste of time to be angry at my parents and feel sorry for myself."
Although she was a wild child in her younger years (remember those whirlwind marriages in 1994 and 2001, and the time she flashed David Letterman atop his desk in 1995?), Barrymore, 38 -- who doesn't identify as "sober" -- never publicly lost control again.
