Blossom Dearie, Feb. 7, age 82: The great jazz vocalist was born in New York, and sources are conflicting about her original name, which may have been Blossom Margrete, Marguerite Blossom or Margrethe Blossom. She sang with the Woody Herman Orchestra before moving to Paris in the early '50s, where she had hits with "Lullaby of Birdland" and "The Riviera." She moved back to the United States, started her own label to have more control over her recordings, toured tirelessly until 2006, and recorded with dozens of artists over the years, including Lyle Lovett.
