After Jesse Watters praised Donald Trump for his handling of the floods in Texas that took the lives of more than 100 people, Jessica Tarlov pointed out how the Republican leader reacted to Hurricane Helene."I don't think that talking about preparedness or what might have helped qualifies as impugning the memory of those that have been lost or detracting from the thoughtful conversation that needs to take place because this river has been flooding for a very long time," she explained. "We were here around the table when hurricane Helene struck. I did not hear Jesse Watters saying that Donald Trump should stop spreading lies about the Biden administration and the FEMA funds."
"Trump came out and he said, 'They're giving your FEMA dollars to illegals, they're housing them with your FEMA dollars.' Then he said you're only going to get $750 from FEMA – which was a complete lie and there are Republican officials who have testified to the fact that people did not get their FEMA assistance because of what Trump and other Republicans were saying," the Democratic journalist added as her colleague smirked.
Tarlov emphasized how right-wing lawmakers rejected "over $54 billion in identified needs in terms of disaster resistance" that could have helped in the natural disaster. "That is something that they can work on to move forward and hopefully avoid a tragedy like this again," she said.

During the July 4 weekend, tragedy struck when multiple parts of Central Texas were hit with flash floods. Flooding victims included 27 young campers and counselors from Camp Mystic."We have been in communication with local and state authorities who are tirelessly deploying extensive resources to search for our missing girls," Camp Mystic made clear in a statement. "We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from community, first responders and officials at every level."

In response to the devastating news, Donald Trump extended his and his wife Melania Trump's condolences for the lives lost."Melania and I are praying for all the families impacted by this horrible tragedy," the president penned in a Truth Social update. "Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!"
In stark contrast, Donald also took to social media to respond to Hurricane Helene when Joe Biden was still in power. "I'll be there shortly, but don't like the reports that I'm getting about the Federal Government and the Democrat Governor of the State, going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas," he claimed in a Truth Social update at the time.
