Doocy Confronts White House on Dress Code Double Standard
Fox News' Peter Doocy didn't hold back during a Wednesday, March 5, White House press briefing, putting Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the spot over a glaring inconsistency: why was Elon Musk allowed to dress casually in the Oval Office while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky faced harsh criticism for his attire?"We know that some officials here were mad that Zelensky showed up last week without a suit," Doocy began, before adding with a smirk, "But Elon Musk never wears a suit."
Leavitt initially smirked at the question, but her amusement quickly faded when further pressed. She attempted to justify the difference, responding, that Musk "did last night" during Trump's address to Congress.
But Doocy persisted, asking, "So what is the dress code?" — a question that seemingly had no clear answer.
Here's how everything unfolded…

Zelensky Mocked, Musk Excused
While Musk has strutted through the White House in a "tech support" t-shirt and blazer, his appearance has largely gone unchallenged by conservatives. Zelensky, however, was mocked to his face by President Donald Trump and aggressively questioned by Brian Glenn, a reporter for Real America's Voice and the boyfriend of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.Glenn didn't hold back, demanding: "Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office, and you refuse to wear a suit. Do you own a suit?"
In response, Zelensky, who has worn military fatigues since the start of the war, fired back with a sharp remark: He'll wear a "costume" when the war in Ukraine is over.
Musk's Casual Attire Gets a Free Pass
Despite Musk's status as a major federal contractor and a key figure in the administration's cost-cutting efforts, his casual dress has barely raised an eyebrow. Even as he roamed the White House halls in ultra-casual wear, the same critics who attacked Zelensky remained silent.Doocy, seizing on this hypocrisy, asked Leavitt if Musk had been "spooked" into dressing up after seeing Zelensky humiliated for his outfit. "No, I don't think so," Leavitt replied, offering instead a bizarre justification: "I'm just pointing out that he did wear a suit last night. And I think the president liked that very much — and he looked great."
Social Media Reacts
The discrepancy hasn't gone unnoticed online. Social media users quickly weighed in, pointing out the double standard in Trump's treatment of Musk versus Zelensky."So let me get this straight: Musk gets to dress like he just fixed my Wi-Fi, but Zelensky — a wartime leader — gets shamed for wearing what he wears every day in a literal war zone?" one X user wrote.
Another posted, "This is just petty political theater. Focus on policy, not on whether a man fighting a war is wearing a three-piece suit."
Style Over Substance in the Trump White House
For many, the fact that Zelensky, a wartime president, was shamed for his clothing while Musk, a wealthy entrepreneur, was given a pass speaks volumes. The real question for Doocy and others isn't whether Musk or Zelensky wore a suit — it's why one man's dress code was weaponized while the other's was ignored.
