According to
Tina Brown, the author of the royal biography
Palace Papers,
Prince Harry's unwillingness to help Meghan Markle adjust to the norms of The Firm contributed to their downfall.
"So why didn't Harry help navigate Palace culture for his future wife? He didn't want to," the former confidant of
Princess Diana wrote. "Their new complicity required Meghan to fight all the norms he had kicked against for so long. She was now his comrade in arms."
Tina claimed one former aide called the duo's opposition to conforming a shared "addiction to drama," which led to "partially self-inflicted" wounds.

Even before
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exited royal life in 2020, there was alleged tension behind the scenes.
Per author
Tom Bower, the pair's trip to Australia in 2018 was anything but peaceful despite the media's glowing coverage of the visit.
"Every night, he [Harry] trawled social media, searching for snide comments on the internet. Every morning, he and Meghan turned on their phones to surf the internet. Thin-skinned, they were inflamed by the slightest criticism," he
claimed. "Then, both bombarded their staff with demands for retribution and removal of the criticism."
The author alleged that Meghan got extremely upset at one point that she "threw a cup of tea into the air."

Despite skirting their royal duties,
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to make headlines.
The former military veteran recently stepped down from his charity, Sentebale, after the board chair,
Dr. Sophie Chandauka, claimed Harry had harassed her when they worked together.
"He is said to be devastated. What's puzzling is that Meghan has remained silent. No public words of support. Maybe behind closed doors she's been his rock," royal expert
Dr. Max Pemberton said of the matter. "Meanwhile, she celebrated her 44th birthday [on August 4]. On Instagram, she posted a picture in which she thanked 'my husband' in passing; she didn't name him, and there was no sign of Harry. While Harry is battling court cases and losing his beloved charity, Meghan seems to be on a high with her As Ever brand and Netflix show. In successful partnerships, there is always one person to lift you up when you fall down. Without someone like this, life is infinitely harder and less fun."
