In 1946, a young Jimmy Carter — whose Carter Center on Feb. 18, 2023, announced that the former president has, at 98 following a series of short hospital stays, decided to forgo further medical treatment and enter hospice care at his home in Georgia — posed for a portrait in honor of his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. He was just 21 at the time.
