There's no way around it — it was a great night for Democrats and left-leaning causes on Tuesday, Nov. 7 — Election Day. In an off-year election, Democrats took the house and retained the senate in Virginia; Andy Beshear, a Democrat, was re-elected governor of ruby-red Kentucky despite former President Donald Trump enthusiastically endorsing the Republican challenger; and in Ohio, voters overwhelmingly passed an amendment to provide access to abortion and enshrine reproductive rights in the state's constitution.
After the votes were counted, many celebrities and top-line politicians reacted to the results on social media.
Marvel star Mark Ruffalo wrote on X, "Congratulations Ohio for the big win on a family's right to choose and reproductive rights!"

"GOP MUST pivot their messaging after major losses last night in VA and PA. Remember you have to win nationwide — not just the base but Independents and Dems ESPECIALLY on social issues. Dems won in Loudon County entirely representative of GOP culture war issues." —Caitlyn Jenner

"Tonight, Americans once again voted to protect their fundamental freedoms — and democracy won.
In Ohio, voters protected access to reproductive health in their state constitution. Ohioans and voters across the country rejected attempts by MAGA Republican elected officials to impose extreme abortion bans that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors and nurses for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide. This extreme and dangerous agenda is out-of-step with the vast majority of Americans.
My Administration will continue to protect access to reproductive health care and call on Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law once and for all." —President Joe Biden

"Trump endorsed candidate Daniel Cameron loses the Governor's race in DEEP RED Kentucky. Another loss for Trump. The losing will only end for Republicans if we rid ourselves of Donald Trump. Trump — loser in '18, '20, '21, '22 and now '23." —former New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie
