Following his public split from first wife Christina Hall in 2016, Tarek El Moussa was in such a fragile and potentially dangerous mental state that he didn't trust himself. On the Jan. 8 episode of Jeff Fenster's eponymous podcast, the "Flip of Flop" star spoke about taking steps to ensure his safety, which included some interesting living conditions.

Tarek El Moussa lived in a halfway house after he split from Christina Hall, he revealed.
"When my ex left me, I went to some soul-searching places. I actually lived in a halfway house. This is my first time sharing that," he said.
"I didn't trust myself to be alone. That's how bad I was," he added.

Tarek El Moussa hit "rock bottom" when he and Christina Hall split.
"The reason I ended up there is because I didn't know where to go and I needed 24-hour care. It was pretty bad because I had lost everything, it felt like, overnight," he said.

Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall, who share two children, split in May 2016 following an incident in which he fled the family home with a gun. The couple made headlines continuously throughout early 2017 as stories surfaced alleging that Tarek emotionally abused Christina on the set of "Flip or Flop."
In an effort to shut down the rumors about their relationship, Tarek released a statement saying, "No matter the lies, innuendo, salacious gossip and 'fake news' that is thrown at me from irresponsible media outlets via anonymous sources, I will keep my focus on what matters most which is co-parenting our children and working hard on our businesses."

On Jeff Fenster's eponymous podcast, Tarek El Moussa acknowledged that he wasn't always the "best husband" or father. He also said there are "no excuses" for his previous behavior.
"I was going through a lot at the time but my actions were not the best," he said.
Tarek married second wife Heather Rae El Moussa in 2021. They welcomed a son together in early 2023.
