Speaking on the Cats Roundtable show on Sunday, July 6, Lee Zeldin said the EPA itself needs to step back in order to accelerate nuclear energy development. He then went on to criticize his own agency for "gumming up the works" and delaying energy projects, including nuclear ones.

Lee Zeldin emphasized that his mission is to streamline the licensing process for zero emissions nuclear power, regardless of the political party in power. "It's going to require less time, have less cost and have more certainty. Nuclear is certainly a key part of the future. … President Donald Trump is all in. His team is all in. The National Energy Dominance Council is all in," he said.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced plans to build the state's first new nuclear plant in more than 15 years. Lee Zeldin contrasted this with the federal government's financial support of wind energy, calling it inefficient and over-subsidized. "Without the government propping up wind … it becomes even less feasible. It becomes even less economical," he said. "If you're not sure which way to go … you look at the map and you look at the economics, well, that should convince you against wind."
