Donald Trump initially nominated Jared Isaacman to lead NASA, but the president later pulled back his nomination before the billionaire could receive Senate confirmation. "I am pleased to announce that I am directing our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, to be Interim Administrator of NASA," he shared on Truth Social on Wednesday, July 9.

Sean Duffy is a former congressman, Fox News personality and reality TV star. (He appeared on The Real World: Boston in the '90s.) "Sean is doing a TREMENDOUS job in handling our Country's Transportation Affairs, including creating a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control systems, while at the same time rebuilding our roads and bridges, making them efficient, and beautiful, again," Donald Trump wrote. "He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time. Congratulations, and thank you, Sean."

Sean Duffy shared he was "honored to accept this mission," adding on X, "Time to take over space. Let's launch."

Donald Trump abruptly pulled billionaire Jared Isaacman's nomination for the position, as the businessman has a history of donating to Democrats and is friends with Elon Musk. "After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA," Trump wrote on Truth Social in May.
