According to expert
Tom Sykes, Netflix continued working with
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to produce a
Princess Diana documentary. "It's hard to see at this point how and why the relationship endures [with Netflix] unless there is something juicy and possibly Diana-shaped being dangled," he wrote in his
The Royalist Substack.

Meghan Markle and
Prince Harry's projects with Netflix haven't taken off as they'd hoped, leading to a lower-cost extension of their original deal. "It's certainly not been a hugely productive deal thus far," Tom Sykes said. "Meghan's TV show [
With Love, Meghan] hasn't done anything on the Netflix charts. But if there's something [Princess] Diana-related indeed coming, you could see that as something Netflix would certainly maintain the relationship for, at a price."

If
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get the green light for the Princess Diana project, it could ignite fresh tensions with the royal family. "If the proposed documentary featured anything controversial, it would gravely endanger the reconciliation Harry has said he wants with his family, although it would undoubtedly draw the audience Netflix wants," expert
Richard Fitzwilliams shared. "If reconciliation is desirable, but seems unlikely, peace is essential. [The documentary], if it happens, could restart the conflict."

While a tell-all documentary about Princess Diana would upset The Firm, it would also likely cause tension with
King Charles III and
Prince William. "I think they'll be absolutely horrified and [the] Prince of Wales will particularly think that his mother's being exploited when he wants to sort of leave that all behind him," journalist
Phil Dampier told
The Sun.
