Weston Coppola Cage's hearing was part of ongoing legal proceedings over his alleged April 2024 assault of his mother, Christina Fulton, outside her Southern California home.In April 2025, he agreed to a two-year mental health diversion program for the related felony charges.
According to Los Angeles County Judge Enrique Monguia, Cage's altered mental state during the incident with his mother led the court to offer a diversion program instead of traditional sentencing.
"Mr. Cage does suffer from an eligible mental health disorder," Monguia said. "I'm satisfied it was a significant factor in the commission of the charged offenses. It's obvious he was suffering a breakdown at the time."

One day after Weston Coppola Cage turned himself in to authorities in July 2024, Christina Fulton released a statement recounting her version of events, noting that her son left before officers arrived. She said she received an "urgent message" from his friends about his "deteriorating mental state" and that when she encountered him, he was in a "manic rage" and attacked her "within minutes."
"As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston's ongoing mental health crisis," she said at the time, adding, "It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs."

During the April 2025 hearing, Christina Fulton offered additional testimony regarding the incident. She told the court that during the attack, Weston Coppola Cage was "crushing and suffocating" her while pressing his thumb into her eye socket.
Fulton testified that one of Cage's friends "risked his life to save" her by separating them during the attack.
If his friend hadn't intervened, "my family would have buried me and Weston would have gone to prison," she continued.
"I've been demonized for being a good mother," she added. "Now I stand here, pleading for one thing: that he gets the help he deserves. Please help my son."
