"The money is not the issue. The issue is Jeff Bezos doesn't want to sell it because he sees it as a tool now," Kara Swisher said on The View. The reporter pointed out how she believes her former boss likes having power within the media space, just as Elon Musk enjoys his control in the social media landscape: "Musk has X, and he has this," she added.

Kara Swisher emphasized how "all the really good people are leaving" and subscriptions are dwindling at The Washington Post because of Jeff Bezos' new direction.
"It's all due to Jeff's things. He likes to blame the reporters, they don't like the change and I would have agreed, ten years ago," the writer continued. "But the reporters do understand that they need to change."

Kara Swisher claimed she has "good billionaires and a lot of hundred millionaires" who want to financially help her take over the publication from Jeff Bezos — such as Shark Tank star Mark Cuban."There is lots, there is lots of them. Mark Cuban," she said when asked who would be on board. "Mark Cuban does, I had dinner with him at South by Southwest [Film Festival]."

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg expressed her desire to help Kara Swisher with her goal. "But maybe the idea is … crowdfunding because I think lots of people would like to be part of a newspaper that had something to say," the Ghost actress proposed."Well, that's what I'm thinking now, I have to say. Because he does not want to sell, he does not want to sell to me," Swisher replied to the idea. "We had a lot of testy relations when I was covering. But I think he does not want to sell. There's lots of reasons why not to, including embarrassment, right? Like, things are not working out. And if he can use it, he can use it!"

Trouble behind the scenes at The Washington Post began last year when Jeff Bezos blocked the editorial team's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris' bid for the White House. The owner of the publication was also in attendance at President Donald Trump's second inauguration in January. In recent weeks, Bezos told staffers of the opinion section what he wants them to focus on. "We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets," the businessman instructed employees. "We'll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others."
