Following the 6–3 decision, liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor clarified her opposition in her dissent. Left-leaning judges Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson also signed off on the document. The conservatives on the Court did not explain their ruling."In matters of life and death, it is best to proceed with caution," Sotomayor penned in the 19-page document. "In this case, the government took the opposite approach. This Court now intervenes to grant the government emergency relief from an order it has repeatedly defied. I cannot join so gross an abuse of the Court's equitable discretion."
"The government has made clear in word and deed that it feels itself unconstrained by law, free to deport anyone anywhere without notice or an opportunity to be heard," she added.

In April, Massachusetts-based U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy issued a preliminary injunction blocking Donald Trump and his administration from sending migrants to "third countries" unless they met specific requirements. The businessman and his staffers sent eight migrants to South Sudan in northeastern Africa. Out of the group, two each were from Cuba and Myanmar. The others were from Laos, Mexico, South Sudan and Vietnam. Six of them were allegedly convicted of violent offenses, such as murder, arson, robbery and sexual assault.
Now, the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of the Republican leader will remain in place until Boston-based First Circuit Court of Appeals looks at Trump's appeal of Murphy's injunction.

Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin applauded the Supreme Court's decision while putting the blame on former president Joe Biden."The SCOTUS ruling is a victory for the safety and security of the American people," she wrote in a post shared to X. "The Biden administration allowed millions of illegal aliens to flood our country and now the Trump Administration can exercise its undisputed authority to remove these criminal illegal aliens and clean up this national security nightmare. DHS can now execute its lawful authority and remove illegal aliens to a country willing to accept them."
