Pope Francis' passing.
After the religious leader died on Monday, April 21, the United States Representative took to X to write a scathing statement seemingly about the Catholic Church that had social media users outraged.

"Today there were major shifts in global leaderships," Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on X hours after Pope Francis died. "Evil is being defeated by the hand of God."
Social media users were revolted by the remark, with one user writing, "Shame on you, lady. This is disgusting."
"You're a disgrace to
America and the world," a second person wrote.
"There are 1.4 billion Catholics in the world. Show some respect," a third X user chimed in.

Marjorie Taylor Greene — who is now an evangelical Protestant — did not explicitly name Pope Francis in her X post. However, she was raised in the Catholic Church and has been extremely critical of it in the past.
In an April 2022 message shared on X, the
Republican slammed the religious group over their history of allegedly hiding child abuse within the organization. She also criticized their political beliefs.
"I realized that I could not trust the Church leadership to protect my children from [abusers], and that they harbored monsters even in their own ranks," she wrote. "Satan is controlling the [Catholic] church. The bishops are also busy destroying our nation using taxpayer money to advocate for the illegal invasion across our borders. They dare to dress up Democrat vandalism and lawlessness as somehow 'religious,' which perhaps explains their distaste for me."

In a shocking twist, Vice President
J.D. Vance met with Pope Francis in the hours before he died.
"I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis," America's second-in-command — who is Catholic — wrote on social media. "My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him."
"I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill," Vance added. "But I'll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful. May God rest his soul."

Donald Trump issued a statement about the passing of Pope Francis and confirmed he and first lady
Melania Trump will be traveling to attend his funeral services.
"Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!"
