Join us as we take a look at images from "Scoop" — the new Netflix movie that debuted on April 5, 2024 — which tells the story of how a team of female journalists secured and delivered what turned into a headline-making trainwreck interview for Prince Andrew and forced him to step back as a senior working royal.
The 2019 sit-down at Buckingham Palace sparked the Duke of York's public downfall as he opened up about allegations that he'd sexually assaulted a 17-year-old as well as his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Hair, makeup and tremendous talent transformed actor Rufus Sewell into the disgraced royal for the film, which Netflix describes like this: "Inspired by real events, SCOOP is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earth-shattering interview — Prince Andrew's infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. From the tension of producer Sam McAlister's high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way to Emily Maitlis' jaw dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, SCOOP takes us inside the story, with the women who would stop at nothing to get it. To get an interview this big, you have to be bold."
In addition to Sewell, the project stars Gillian Anderson as journalist Emily Maitlis; Keeley Hawes as the prince's private secretary, Amanda Thirsk; Billie Piper as Sam McAlister, the "Newsnight" producer who secured the interview; Romola Garai as Esme Wren, the editor of "Newsnight" at the time of the interview; and Connor Swindells as Jae Donnelly, the paparazzi photographer who got the infamous images of the prince in New York City with Epstein.
