New research is proving Democrats want different people in power.
According to a
Reuters/Ipsos survey published on Tuesday, June 17, a majority of left-leaning voters are yearning for an overhaul of representation in Washington, D.C., and think the party needs to reprioritize certain issues over others.

Per the research, 62% of self-identifying Democrats believe the current leaders of the party "should be replaced with new people." In comparison, only 30% of members of the Republican Party would like to have different representatives fighting for them.
49% of progressives said they were "unsatisfied" with the politicians currently in power. 41% claimed they felt "satisfied," while 10% marked "unsure."

The results also highlighted how some Democrats feel the party must back away from issues, including transgender rights.
Per the poll, only 17% of left-leaning voters said allowing transgender individuals to compete in women's and girls' sports should be a top priority. 28% of Democrats currently see it as a vital issue for the current leadership.
"There are more important things to be moving the needle on," Benjamin Villagomez — who is transgender — told the outlet. "There are more pressing issues, things that actually matter to people's livelihoods."

Perhaps the most significant divide between current Democratic leaders and their constituents is economic issues.
86% of liberals want to raise taxes on high-income Americans and large corporations. However, 72% felt it was a top concern for party representatives.
73% of people on the left want to get corporate spending out of politics, but only 58% said it was a leadership priority.
The poll also showed the vast disconnect between citizens' need for adequate childcare, affordable health insurance, lower-priced prescription drugs and politicians on Capitol Hill championing those issues.
