According to TheWrap, the Tony Awards had a 44% increase in viewership from last year. Nielsen's ratings data showed the Tonys brought in 5.1 million viewers this year. The 2024 ceremony, meanwhile, was viewed 3.53 million times. The 2025 show is reportedly the most viewed Tony Awards since 2019._
The Tony Awards also experienced an increase in viewership in the 25-54 demographic. That age group was up 99%. TheWrap reported there was a 116% spike for viewers aged 18-49 and a 117% spike for viewers aged 18-34._
The 2025 Tony Awards aired live on CBS and also streamed on Paramount+. According to TheWrap, streaming was up 208% this year, and social media engagement hit a three-year high._
While it's unclear what exactly prompted the Tonys' spike in popularity, Cynthia Erivo's involvement may have played a role: The actress, who headlines the wildly popular Wicked franchise, served as the evening's host. Fans of the songstress applauded her talent on X."Cynthia Erivo's sweeping range of brilliance is unparalleled," one person declared.
"Ummm cynthia erivo… NEEDS TO HOST THE TONYS FOR THE NEXT 5-10 YEARS. That was magical," another shared, adding that they had "ZERO complaints."
"Cynthia Erivo closing out the Tonys with that rendition of 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' was hands down the best thing I've ever heard… I need a full moment," someone else added.
