According to royal journalist
Hugo Vickers,
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are depriving Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of getting to know their grandfather
King Charles III and their extended family, including
Prince William and
Kate Middleton's children:
Prince George,
Princess Charlotte and
Prince Louis. "One day, as they grow up, they're going to get irritated by having had the backs of their heads photographed and used for promotion and never having met their grandfathers [on] either side," the writer
said, referring to Charles and the
Suits actress' estranged father,
Thomas Markle. "If I were being brought up in California and I suddenly discovered that my first cousin was likely to be king one day, I would like to get to know him, obviously," he added of George.

When
Prince Harry briefly visited England to participate in multiple charity events and attempt to
reconcile with King Charles III, the public wasted no time pitting the
Spare author against Prince William and Kate Middleton. "Even when he was over here, people were comparing the engagements that he was doing with what the Prince of Wales and Catherine were doing," Hugo Vickers noted, adding that "it's very counterproductive."

Hugo Vickers emphasized how burying the hatchet would benefit everyone in the royal family. "I'm all for [
Prince Harry] reconciling with [King Charles III] because he carries a lot of emotional baggage around with him anyway [regarding] the death of his mother [Princess Diana]," the reporter said, adding that the Duke of Sussex "
looks pretty unhappy in his present life out in Montecito" in California.
