One political pundit has had it with bike lanes in America.During a Wednesday, May 7, panel discussion on Newsmax TV hosted by Chris Plante, former congressional candidate and conservative commentator Matthew Foldi took aim at former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg for how the roads cater to people on bicycles in the United States while begging Donald Trump's Department of Transportation head Sean Duffy to help.

During the appearance, Matthew Foldi called bike lanes "communist garbage" and slammed Pete Buttigieg while talking about New York City's infrastructure."Pete Buttigieg, who was completely MIA — he vanished from the job of transportation secretary. No one noticed whatsoever," the right-wing commentator said of the former naval officer, who was part of Joe Biden's administration.
Foldi then pleaded with Sean Duffy to fix the problem: "By the way, I would beg Sean Duffy to also declare war on bike lanes. These are some of the most un-American, European, communist garbage," he said.
"No one's in them," fellow panelist Hilary Fordwich agreed.

Reporter Daniel Lippman pressed Matthew Foldi about whether he dislikes all bike lanes or just the ones in New York City."I have a car like a normal American," Foldi replied.
"Can I actually say I lived in Amsterdam?" Hilary Fordwich chimed in. "You know what it's like? It's the whole year round. It's between 55 and 61. Here, it's freezing cold in the winter, the sleet in the winter. It's boiling hot and humid in the summer. The weather isn't even conducive to it here."
The Republican then launched another attack on Pete Buttigieg to try to prove his point: "You know, what's also not conducive to bike lanes? Bicyclists using them. We know that they don't use them. But Pete Buttigieg was a completely MIA transportation secretary. Now he thinks because he grew a beard and goes on podcasts that he can be president. But he was such a disastrous failure and now it's nice to have someone who actually shows up," Foldi said.
"Get rid of the bus lanes too," Mercedes Schlapp suggested.

Pete Buttigieg has long been a proponent of bike lanes across the nation. During his time on the job, the left-wing politician praised the city of Lancaster, Penn., for their inclusion of the pathways to improve safety."The thing that really impresses me about what's going on in Lancaster is the commitment to safety and the understanding that improved bike and pedestrian structure isn't ornamental, it's fundamental," Buttigieg said in a June 2024 interview after paying the city a visit.

The current department of transportation secretary, former reality star Sean Duffy, appears to have an extremely different take on bike lanes."I do think it's a problem when we're making massive investments in bike lanes at the expense of vehicles," he said at the 2025 World Economy Summit. "I do think you see more congestion when you add bike lanes and take away vehicle lanes. That's a problem."
