"For $5 million, this could be yours," Donald Trump teased while holding up the object to show journalists via the New York Post. "That was the first of the cards. You know what that card is? It's the gold card — the Trump card."The Republican leader confirmed the object will be made available to the public "in less than two weeks, probably." Trump also stated he was the first to purchase the product.

Donald Trump's gold card is set to become a new version of the EB-5 visa program. The system gives immigrants who have put at least $1 million into the United States a path to obtaining a green card — which seeks permanent residency and a clear road to full American citizenship. In a vast difference from a visa, a green card gives people coming into the country more flexibility about work and how long you can stay in the U.S. before becoming a citizen.

In March, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick boasted how allegedly 1,000 gold cards had been pre-purchased. "There's a line for EB-5 of 250,000 right now. 200,000 of these gold green cards [at $5 million] is $1 trillion to pay down our debt," the member of Donald Trump's administration explained.According to data from the Invest In the USA (IIUSA), 135,518 EB-5 visas have been issued in the last two decades.

However, Donald Trump's gold card did not seem to impress people on social media. "This is definitely what the end of America looks like. An orange man holding a gold card with his face on it," someone penned on X about the launch."You know who can afford $5 million American citizenship Gold Cards? Criminals," a second person chimed in.
"So, what is he doing with the profits from these 5M gold cards?" another questioned.
