The temperatures are rising and the stars are sporting their summer best! And though some famous faces nailed it this June, others didn't fare so well. It's time to round up this month's hits and misses — starting with this look from Yara Shahidi! Though the star's BET Awards look on June 23 came straight from the Prabal Gurung Resort 2020 runway, we're not sure it was the best pick. Yara's edgy ensemble was certainly fashion-forward, but it didn't transition from the runway to the red carpet well. The gray turtleneck and oversized pastel sweater paired with a turquoise sequin wrap-tied miniskirt was a cool combo, but a little too casual for the occasion. And though those black-and-white pointed Christian Louboutin pumps dressed things up a bit, it might not have been enough. Keep reading to see how she salvaged her look with accessories, and check out more of the best and worst dressed stars this month!
Yara Shahidi accessorized her eclectic look with these adorable Hanut earrings. The floral-inspired danglers were comprised of natural pearls and diamonds for an extra-elegant touch. We loved the way the star incorporated similar stones into her long braids to tie it all together.
Kiernan Shipka stunned in this Fendi getup at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 15. Her look featured a bold all-over logo pattern topped with smatterings of neon hues, and she completed it with equally stellar multicolored Fendi heels.
Almost, but not quite, Marion Cotillard. The fashion-challenged star nearly got things right at the Chopard Flagship Boutique reopening party in London on June 17 in this sweater minidress by Atlein, but the proportions were off. From the super-short skirt to the cowl neck to the scrunched sleeves, though the frock had potential, it still missed the mark, and pairing it with those chunky boots certainly didn't help matters. Marion did opt for some pretty stunning earrings though! See them next…
Though we were disappointed by her dress and shoes, we did appreciate Marion Cotillard's pretty sapphire blue statement earrings.
Adore! We loved the sleeveless rainbow Alice + Olivia dress that Nicky Hilton Rothschild wore to the World Pride summit kickoff party hosted by Alice + Olivia in New York City on June 18. It was the perfect choice for the occasion with its bold stripes in every shade of the rainbow. She paired it with strappy metallic heels to complete the fun look.
Nick Cannon decided to put himself on the fashion miss list when he showed up at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 15 in this disastrous ensemble. It started with a Louis Vuitton face mask, ended with Louis Vuitton sneakers and somewhere in the middle included a pair of cargo shorts. Also involved? What looks to be some kind of LV logo-embellished vest, lots of chains and a red tank top. Yikes!
Jessica Alba brought a perfectly summery pop of color to the Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monaco on June 15 in a cheery long-sleeved frock by Silvia Tcherassi with a belt detail at the waist, a subtle V-neckline, wide sleeves and a pleated floor-length skirt.
Lizzo arrived at the BET Awards on June 23 in this… well, interesting getup, to say the least. The rising star apparently got her inspiration from a forest as she rocked a bizarre custom wood-grain House of Holland minidress with voluminous structured shoulders. She then added some booties in the same print and a hat, which we'll see next…
Lizzo topped her strange wood-grain print outfit with an equally puzzling headpiece — this circular hat that looked like the stump of a tree.
Olivia Munn rocked this stunning nude Galvan gown for the premiere of "The Rook" in Los Angeles on June 17. The spaghetti-strapped frock was comprised of a subtly sparkly fabric and featured a corset-like bodice and a floor-length skirt.
Lil' Kim looked like she came straight from outer space in this bizarre minidress she wore to the BET Awards on June 23. The "9" rapper wore a custom NAZ Couture by Rufat Ismayil lavender design that featured a lace-up corset bodice, oversized structured hips and sheer bell sleeves. It had a matching Marie Antoinette-inspired bomber jacket too, and she added completely unnecessary black Chanel biker gloves to finish her look.
Bella Thorne served up some killer street style in New York City on June 14. The former child star rocked a Chanel button-up shirt and a pair of Chanel logo jeans with white pointy-toed heels for a cool, casual yet super-chic summer look.
We weren't crazy about Lily James' look at the "Yesterday" premiere in London on June 18. The star donned this bejeweled Burberry number that featured some strange additions in the form of nearly glove-length sleeves and a high neck, both of which were in a sheer bedazzled fabric.
Kendall Jenner excelled at summer style in this fitted tangerine-hued dress. The Bec and Bridge frock featured thin straps and fell below the knee. The model paired it with a pair of silver sandals by Amina Muaddi for a super-stylish outing in New York City on June 17.
That BET Awards look wasn't Lizzo's only fashion misstep this month. For the MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 15, the star donned this neon green feather-trimmed frock. Though we loved the bold color choice, that neckline was questionable, as was the decision to pair the dress with chunky white sneakers.
Kate McKinnon sure looked sharp at the "Yesterday" premiere in London on June 18. We loved her dramatic black dress with its plunging bodice, cut-outs and sheer paneling. The sleeveless, floor-length gown was by Akris and her sleek updo showed it off perfectly.
Raven Symone really committed to the yellow theme at the NAACP Theatre Awards in Los Angeles on June 17. We liked her three-quarter-length-sleeved frock with its bold tie detail at the waist, but we weren't fans of the way she paired it with an equally loud feathered purse in a matching shade.
Olivia Holt served up a perfectly summery neon green look at the ARDYs: A Radio Disney Music Celebration in Los Angeles on June 16. We loved her single-strapped frock with its daring cut-out at the waist and the way she paired it with strappy metallic sandals. Next up, a look at her makeup!
We know YouTubers make a lot of money, but Tana Mongeau took things too far on the MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet on June 15. The internet star (and Bella Thorne ex) dressed up in a cash-themed minidress, delivering one of the tackiest looks of the month.
Gabrielle Union rocked a killer LBD at the Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monaco on June 15. The star's leather Hermes minidress was anything but boring with its unique pattern, high neck and sleeveless cut. She paired it with an unexpected but perfectly selected pair of gorgeous orange heels.
The fact that there's a cat in her name explains why Doja Cat rocked this elaborate getup at the BET Awards on June 23. She rocked cat ears and donned a hot pink crocheted frock by The Blonds NY that was adorned with balls of yarn and faux fur fringe, which all added up to a look that certainly turned heads. Though it was eye-catching, it was also an instant fashion miss. Get a better look at her over-the-top accessories next…
Aside from cat ears, Doja Cat also sported these letter-blocked Planet.i "Meow" frames and a custom Mother Plucker Feathers neckpiece that surrounded her head with cat toy-inspired wands bent up by wires. At least it was original!
Daniel Levy looked super-sharp at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 15 rocking this bright red suit with a white dress shirt that had a unique chain detail around the collar. The stylish "Schitt's Creek" star wrapped up his five-star look with some amazing black boots.
We're not quite sure what was going on with Zendaya's ensemble in New York City on June 24. The pale blue sleeveless dress that fell below the knee was covered with a busy print, and she wore matching pants underneath for a funky pairing that fell flat.
Tessa Thompson's silver frock at the "Men in Black: International" New York City premiere on June 11 was on-theme since it did appear otherworldly… just not in a good way. This custom Rodarte confection featured a dramatic sleeve detail, tons and tons of ruffles and an asymmetrical skirt, and though it was on-brand with a futuristic feel, we just couldn't get behind this loud look.
A leather LBD? Sign us up! We were obsessed with Jennifer Aniston's sleeveless leather Celine frock, which featured a high neck, a belt detail and the best feature ever — pockets! To complete the look, which she wore to the June 10 "Murder Mystery" film premiere in Los Angeles, she added some edgy studded sandals, scoring an A+ in our book.
Selena Gomez rocked the red carpet at the New York City premiere of "The Dead Don't Die" on June 10 in this black Celine number. The star sported an off-the-shoulder minidress with dramatic feathered sleeves and paired it with matching black stilettos — a sharp look.
Emily Ratajkowski's slinky Michael Kors gown felt painfully out of place at the June 9 Tony Awards, a red carpet that's never been known for its risqué fashion. The model's thin-strapped sparkly black gown with massive cut-outs stood out — just not in a good way — amongst a sea of tulle and ballgowns.
Chloe Sevigny always dresses to impress and is never scared of a fashion risk — and at the New York City premiere of "The Dead Don't Die" on June 10, it definitely paid off. The actress donned this strapless dreamy black-and-white Marc Jacobs dress with a feathered detail along the neckline and a massive black bow underneath. Amping up the drama, Chloe's frock also featured puffed sleeves and a lot happening from the back, which we'll see next…
We're not typically fans of unnecessary trains, but we'll make an exception for the tail on this killer Marc Jacobs number. Chloe Sevigny's black-and-white frock featured a lengthy train trailing off the back like the bottom half of an oversized bow. Completing this fashion hit? Those strappy heels and her bright red lip.
Oh, Mandy Moore. The actress wore this unfortunate silver frock to the "Below the Line Talent" FYC event in Los Angeles on June 9, and it seriously underwhelmed us. The long-sleeved dress had a high-low hemline and a bell sleeve, but something about the fit felt off on the "This Is Us" star. Pairing it with those black heels was also a misguided choice.
Our second favorite look from the Tony Awards red carpet on June 9? That belonged to Marisa Tomei, who gave us a gorgeous floral moment when she arrived rocking this strapless Ralph and Russo number with a sweetheart neckline. The frock also featured a dramatic slit and a stunning gray and magenta floral print with navy piping.
Fashion risks were welcome at the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 3, but Joan Smalls' ensemble was just too casual. The model wore a matching pale pink cropped jacket and pants with a white crop top for a look that, while definitely summer-ready, wasn't on par with the gowns others donned for the big event.
Though we were puzzled to see Kate Bosworth pop up at this year's CMT Music Awards on June 5, we were delighted by this fashion moment. The actress looked like an ultra-glamorous mermaid in a teal strapless Prabal Gurung frock that featured just the right amount of sparkle and a modest slit. And her earrings were just as fabulous…
To complement that killer Prabal Gurung number, Kate Bosworth sported these David Webb Alpine Drop Earrings made of faceted rock crystal and diamonds. And when it came time for hair and makeup, Kate rocked a half-up hairdo with peach-toned makeup, including a bright lip and blush.
Kelsea Ballerini's CMT Music Awards gown was stunning. The country darling donned a sweet one-sleeved asymmetrical number by Blumarine that featured nearly hip-level slits and ruffles in all the right places. And she paired it perfectly with equally stellar hair and makeup…
With such an intricate gown, a simple super-high ponytail was the perfect hairstyle pick. Kelsea Ballerini rocked the pony and held it in place with a matching beaded band, tying her look together perfectly. For makeup, she rocked a smokey eye and a nude lip, opting not to detract from the opulence of that show-stopping dress.
A CMT Music Awards look that wasn't so great? Meghan Linsey's bedazzled jumpsuit. But the star's unfortunate and flashy ensemble didn't stop there — she added a similarly blush-hued duster over top plus a tan hat and platform heels, making for a fashion miss.
Nicole Richie nailed the ideal Saint Laurent look at the fashion house's show in Los Angeles on June 6. She wore this structured long-sleeved top with square shoulders with a fitted miniskirt and added matching strappy black heels also by the designer.
Sheryl Crow went for a super-casual vibe at the CMT Music Awards on June 5. Though the look wasn't all bad — that fabric is lovely — it felt much too informal for one of country music's biggest night.
Summer whites are everywhere and Madelaine Petsch excelled at the clean, fresh shade at the MaxMara Women in Film Event in Los Angeles on June 11 where she donned this one-sleeved Max Mara number with an asymmetrical neckline, fitted skirt and tea-length hemline that culminated in delicate, feminine ruffles. She finished things off with stark white heels for a pretty, bright ensemble.
Tia Mowry-Hardrict lost us with this clashing multi-print frock by Cushnie that she wore to the "Murder Mystery" film premiere in Los Angeles on June 10. She paired the part-leopard, part-navy, part-cheery-yellow frock featuring an asymmetrical hemline with equally loud and questionable heels. See them next!
What's going on here, Tia Mowry-Hardrict? Her strappy black heels both featured gold studs, but that's where the matching ended. The right heel also featured a bedazzled multicolored design, which was confusing enough, but when paired with that equally loud and mismatched dress, it cemented this look as a miss.
Aubrey Plaza had a perfect fashion moment in Prada at the "Legion" show premiere in Los Angeles on June 13. The actress donned a sweet little strapless number featuring an all-over lime green floral print and paired it perfectly with pointy-toe nude pumps.
Camille A. Brown donned this disastrous blue ballgown with a high-low hemline for the Tony Awards on June 9. But to be fair, it wasn't just the bottom that threw things off, as her strapless dress didn't start off great with its embellished and tulle-trimmed bodice.
Looking fab, Katie Holmes! The star donned this busy Missoni strapless frock, which featured a shimmering pink-and-blue bodice that gave way to a glittery asymmetrically striped multicolored full skirt, at the Life Ball in Vienna, Austria, on June 8.
Yikes! Cindy Bruna donned this teeny tiny emerald green minidress covered with shimmering sequins for the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 3. On its own, the dress was pretty, but pairing it with over-the-elbow matching sequined gloves turned this potential hit into a miss.
We loved Jessica Biel's easy, breezy summer look in Los Angeles on June 10. The star rocked a leopard high-waisted skirt with a black T-shirt and brown sandals for a casual yet super-cool getup.
We weren't feeling the hot pink Alexis Mabille frock that Winnie Harlow wore to the Ace Awards in New York City on June 10. The combination of that shiny fabric and the equally loud feathers amounted to too much. It might have worked in minidress form, but such a dramatic silhouette just felt over the top.
Issa Rae had a great coat-dress moment in Max Mara at the Women in Film Gala in Los Angeles on June 12. The star sported this long-sleeved jacket-style dress with button details, adding a matching white clutch and silver strappy sandals. Next we'll check out her beauty look…
To add some color to her all-white ensemble, Issa Rae went with a super-bold eye — an all-over blue look — and a nude lip. For some bling, she added a pair of diamond studs, and when it came to hair, she opted for a pretty, lengthy braid.
We weren't fans of the Rasario frock that Rachel Brosnahan wore to the New York Women in Film and Television event in New York City on June 11. The sparkly frock featured vertical stripes in pink, gold and black with the added embellishment of thick black straps that culminated in bows at the waist. But this shimmery look fell flat. One element we did love? The metallic sandals she paired it with.
Sadie Sink looked darling rocking this short-sleeved Chanel minidress while out in New York City on June 12. We loved the multicolored tweed boucle number and the way she completed her look with a hot pink Chanel bag and white-and-silver sandals.
Cynthia Erivo's June 9 Tony Awards getup wasn't one of our favorites. Her Gris Gelinas gown amounted to a fashion miss with its off-the-shoulder cut trimmed in layers and layers of white-and-yellow feathers contrasted by a slinky skirt with a thigh-high slit.
Tiffany Haddish attended the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala in Los Angeles on June 12 in the perfect hue — blue! The comedy star rocked a long-sleeved navy-and-silver striped minidress, an ideal selection to support the legendary baseball team's colors. When it came time to pick shoes, she added some silver pumps to bring out the subtle sparkle in her dress.
We're all about the pantsuit, but the oversized pantsuit? We can't get behind that one. Emily Ratajkowski sported the questionable style with a tiny white crop top underneath while out walking her dog in New York City on June 3.
Molly Sims donned this pretty red-and-white floral-print frock by Rebecca de Ravenel for the "Murder Mystery" film premiere in Los Angeles on June 10. The model's long-sleeved dress featured a sweetheart neckline and a dainty little train, and she paired it with the perfect shoe choice — white Stuart Weitzman sandals.
We loved the sweet floral frock that Rachael Leigh Cook wore to the "Toy Story 4" premiere in Los Angeles on June 11 — a pretty peach pick with a spaghetti-strap halter-style neckline. Our only complaint was her shoe selection — we didn't pick up that cheery teal in the floral pattern, and the mismatched effect threw us off.
