In his book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, royal biographer Andrew Lownie alleges that Prince Andrew made "rude" and "unkind" comments about Kate Middleton. Lownie hinted at Andrew being jealous of how Kate became a prominent member of the royal family after Queen Elizabeth II's death, while he continued to exist on the outskirts due to his Jeffrey Epstein ties.

Kate Middleton has become one of the most popular members of the royal family. Andrew Lownie noted the princess' impact on the crown, telling
Radar Online, "I can't see how anyone could make unkind comments about Kate when she's been the family's saving grace. … It surprised me, but people do get jealous. I'd have thought Prince Andrew would respect William as future king, though, [instead of being] nasty about his wife."

Before Queen Elizabeth II died, she stripped Prince Andrew of his military titles and charity affiliations over Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre's allegations that the Duke of York assaulted her when she was just 17. Giuffre sued Andrew, who settled with her out of court. His reputation took a big hit in the process.

Prince William continues to prioritize the crown amid his estrangement from multiple family members including his uncle, Prince Andrew, and his brother,
Prince Harry. The Prince of Wales has juggled transitioning into his new role while also caring for Kate Middleton throughout her cancer battle. "William has a very strong sense of public duty and is doing his best to keep the show on the road," Andrew Lownie said. "He's all about doing things the right way and has enough on his plate without having to think about his uncle." He added that "everyone is pulling together" including
King Charles III,
Princess Anne,
Prince Edward and others, though "the whole side has been let down by Prince Andrew."
