After a rough childhood in states including New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington and, ultimately, California, Demi Moore (born Demi Guynes) settled with her family in West Hollywood. Demi, seen here in an undated portrait taken circa 1982, moved out on her own at 16 and signed with the Elite Modeling Agency before enrolling in drama classes after being inspired by her next-door neighbor, 17-year-old German actress Nastassja Kinski.

The "Moonlighting" star, whose career was taking off thanks to '80s franchises like "Die Hard" and "Look Who's Talking," helped the actress tackle deep insecurities and issues stemming from her childhood trauma. "Bruce insisted that he thought everything about me was beautiful: He wrapped my fear and anxiety in his love," Demi wrote in her 2019 memoir "Inside Out." The pair welcomed their first child, daughter Rumer Willis, in August 1988 — almost one month before they stepped out at the Emmys together (pictured here).
