Donald Trump slammed legacy media outlets in an all-caps rant on Truth Social on Thursday, June 26: "FAKE NEWS REPORTERS FROM CNN [and] THE NEW YORK TIMES SHOULD BE FIRED, IMMEDIATELY!!! BAD PEOPLE WITH EVIL INTENTIONS!!!" he wrote. He previously lashed out at CNN and journalist Natasha Bertrand for going against his claims that his airstrikes completely destroyed Iranian nuclear sites: "Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing fake news. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded and then thrown out 'like a dog,'" he wrote. "She lied on the laptop from hell story and now she lied on the nuclear sites story, attempting to destroy our patriot pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit 'pay dirt' — TOTAL OBLITERATION!"

CNN made it clear they would be standing behind Natasha Bertrand and her reporting despite Donald Trump's call for her firing: "CNN's reporting made clear that this was an initial finding that could change with additional intelligence. We have extensively covered President Trump's own deep skepticism about it," the left-leaning network said in a statement. "We do not believe it is reasonable to criticize CNN reporters for accurately reporting the existence of the assessment and accurately characterizing its findings, which are in the public interest."

Former CNN star
Chris Cuomo came out against the reporting and claimed the outlet was trying to keep up with alternative media: "I think that it's trying too hard to compete with these pod bros and people who sell hysteria for profit," the journalist said on an episode of his NewsNation show,
Cuomo. "They don't have any of the assets or capabilities of getting things right or reporting or investigating the way real news agencies do. We just too often get caught in the propaganda game."
