Just days after leaving his role at DOGE on Friday, May 30, Elon Musk ripped apart Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill: "I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," he wrote on Tuesday, June 3. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."Things between Musk and Trump escalated from there.

On Saturday, June 7, Donald Trump threatened Elon Musk in an interview with NBC News' Kristen Welker, telling the journalist that if his former ally starts funding Democrats' political campaigns, "he'll have to pay the consequences for that.""He'll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that," the president doubled down.

Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill has caused controversy, as many fear it will create a national debt issue. Despite the criticisms, Donald Trump is enthusiastic about the bill's progress."Is there anything else you just want people to know about the status?" Kristen Welker asked.
"No, not at all. We're doing great," Trump shared. "The bill is great. It looks like we're going to get it passed. Looks strongly like we're going to get it passed."
The president noted that he is "very confident" that the legislation would be passed by Friday, July 4.

Elon Musk called the bill "disgusting," but Donald Trump thinks the Tesla CEO's online rant helped highlight the legislation's potential impact."I think, actually, Elon brought out the strengths of the bill because people that weren't as focused started focusing on it, and they see how good it is," Trump said in the interview.
"So in that sense, there was a big favor," he continued. "But I think Elon, really, I think it's a shame that he's so depressed and so heartbroken."

Donald Trump previously threatened to cut Elon Musk's government contracts."I'd be allowed to do that," he told Kristen Welker, adding that he hadn' "given it any thought."

While Elon Musk has hinted at being willing to reconcile, Donald Trump shared he has no intention of mending things with the South African businessman."I'm too busy doing other things," Trump shared before claiming that Musk was "disrespectful to the office of the president."
"I have no intention of speaking to him," Trump added.
He also claimed Musk attempted to resolve things with a phone call but that he refused to speak to him.
