As we near the end of summer, even the most stylish stars are making the occasional misstep! Our first fashion miss this month comes from Cara Delevingne, who donned this galactic-themed Iris van Herpen dress at the Hollywood premiere of her new Amazon series "Carnival Row" on Aug. 21. We give her props for all the color, but we weren't crazy about the busy silhouette. From the halter neckline to the illusion of bare-shoulders with the gauzy sheer sleeves that draped to the floor, this frock quickly turned into an eyesore. One element of her look we loved? Her statement hair and makeup, which we'll see next… along with more of the best and worst dressed stars from August 2019!
Cara Delevingne complemented her colorful Iris van Herpen frock with equally bright makeup, rocking a pink lip and shades of lilac and tangerine around her eyes. But our favorite part of this beauty look? The way she added extra pops of color in her hair in the form of makeup-matching barrettes.
Stunning! Though Mandy Moore has made some serious missteps in the fashion department lately, this look at the Emmy Nominee Celebration in West Hollywood on Aug. 13 nearly made up for all of them! Her halter-style Proenza Schouler design featured interesting color paneling in shades of black, white, tan and gold and paired perfectly with her black accessories.

What's going on here, Julianne Hough? We're not quite sure, but we do know that the reality TV judge should have received a fashion citation for this hideous bronze minidress by Maticevski featuring way too much draped fabric, which she wore to the "America's Got Talent" live show in Los Angeles on Aug. 13.
Troian Bellisario donned this gorgeous black Jason Wu gown at the "Where'd You Go Bernadette" screening in New York City on Aug. 12. It featured thin straps and an asymmetrical divide down the floor-length skirt that transitioned into sheer fabric with feather trim.
Megan Fox went with this unconventional all-black look at the "Battle of Jangsari" press conference in South Korea on Aug. 21. Her Olivier Theyskens getup included a strapless corset-like top with a bow detail paired with black trousers fit for a business casual wardrobe — resulting in a totally conflicting and confusing ensemble.
We're really not used to Cate Blanchett falling amongst the fashion misses of the month, but this Alexander McQueen look at the "Where'd You Go Bernadette" screening in New York City on Aug. 12 really baffled us. A seemingly simple black suit was transformed into an insanely puzzling getup with those ruched royal blue long sleeves.
Christie Brinkley looked darling in this black-and-white polka-dot minidress at the "Dancing With the Stars" cast reveal in New York City on Aug. 21. We loved the Caroline Constas frock's dramatic sleeves and the way Christie paired it with silver strappy sandals.
We're used to Zendaya consistently wowing us, but everyone has an off day. The "Euphoria" star had hers at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11 when she stepped on the red carpet in this oddly casual oversized yellow plaid button-up paired with… lime green shorts. Yep, the fashionista donned this pairing from designer Jacquemus at the award show. Though she's typically a stranger to the miss list, that night, she earned herself a spot.
Our favorite polka-dot gown of the month? The gorgeous tiered Carolina Herrera confection that Vanessa Hudgens wore to the UNICEF Summer Gala in Sardinia, Italy, on Aug. 9. The spaghetti-strap frock featured alternating black-and-white fabrics and an amazing layered skirt complete with a train.
Oh, no! There's nothing redeemable about the Khaite design Kirsten Dunst wore to visit "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" in New York City on Aug. 15. The dress seemed to be business on top with its short-sleeved black top that gave way to a party below in the form of a hideous nude sheer skirt with black polka dots. It's the perfect example of how not to wear polka dots.
Jasmine Tookes wore this sweet pale pink slip dress to the Victoria's Secret fall collection unveiling in Atlanta on Aug. 17. Her silver accessories and white strappy heels took this perfectly summery ensemble to the next level.
This year's Teen Choice Awards were held at the beach on Aug. 11, and Sarah Hyland dressed like she was ready to sunbathe. The "Modern Family" actress selected this swimwear-inspired Teresa Helbig crop top and flared miniskirt with ruffled beige lace atop a neon orange base color — making it look like she opted for a bathing suit cover… which isn't the right vibe for a red carpet.
Zooey Deschanel picked the perfect summer selection for the premiere of "Good Boys" in Los Angeles on Aug. 14 — this lovely white Ulla Johnson dress with ruched short sleeves, subtle striping and a ruffled skirt. Instead of keeping things monochromatic, she balanced the frock out with a pair of nude pointy-toe heels.
Tori Spelling wowed in the worst way at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11. The actress, who's having a major career resurgence with "BH90210," donned this loud sunflower midi-length dress and added chunky black-and-gold Chanel accessories including a choker, inexplicably, to the mix.
We adored the electric blue gown that Gabrielle Union wore to the "America's Got Talent" taping on Aug. 20 — especially because it came from her own collection with the brand New York & Company! From the plunging neckline to the belted detail to the long sleeves and floor-length cut, this standout dress made a splash on the red carpet.
If we didn't struggle with the sheer fabric trend so much, we would have loved the fuchsia-and-yellow floral embellishments on the sleeveless, floor-length frock that Angela Simmons wore to the WEtv celebration premieres of "Growing Up Hip Hop" and "Untold Stories of Hip Hop" in New York CIty on Aug. 19. Even her accessories were divisive — we liked her choice of simple black pointy-toe pumps but hated those massive circular earrings that detracted from the gown's print.
Adriana Lima gave us sparkly mermaid vibes at the UNICEF Summer Gala in Sardinia, Italy, on Aug. 9. The model donned this strapless Rami Kadi creation embellished with pale pink, purple and blue sequins that gave off a seriously glamorous vibe on the red carpet.
We weren't feeling Jada Pinkett Smith's two-piece look at the "Angel Has Fallen" premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 20. Her Rosie Assoulin ensemble was comprised of a thin-strapped bralette, which we liked, and a skirt, which we didn't. The dramatic dotted creation featured a thigh-high slit and an over-the-top train that didn't make sense with such a casual top.
La La Anthony rocked killer House of CB coordinates while arriving to tape "Good Morning America" in New York City on Aug. 20. The star selected this vibrant marigold-hued combo of an asymmetrical crop top with mismatched straps — one thin, one thick — and complemented it with matching high-waisted trousers. The decision to add white pointy-toe heels was just icing on the cake!
Priyanka Chopra's white Victoria Beckham suit was spiced up with a black sheer top, but it was her shoe choice that really stole the show at Beautycon in Los Angeles on Aug. 10. The sparkly heels featured black bow details around the ankles and brought the whole look to the next level.
That's a whole lot of gold… and taffeta… and feathers. Former "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham donned this questionable jumpsuit at Beautycon in Los Angeles on Aug. 10 and cemented herself a spot on the miss list in the process.
The jumpsuit that Katharine McPhee wore at the Vocal Star music seminar in Los Angeles on Aug. 18 was a pleasant surprise. We loved the sleeveless cut and how the high neck worked with that little bit of sheer fabric along the bodice. Making things even better? Those killer heels with jeweled straps that added just a touch of bling to the otherwise monochromatic ensemble.
Polka dots were truly having a moment this month, with Alison Brie jumping on board the trend with this golden and black two-piece look for an appearance at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations night featuring her show, "GLOW," in New York City on Aug. 13.
Another stellar polka-dot selection this month? Mandy Moore's long-sleeved knee-length dress, which she paired with black flats for the Rothy's Conscious Cocktails event in Los Angeles on Aug. 20.
Yikes! What do you get when you mix a collarless unbuttoned shirt, striped trousers and those ubiquitous Gucci fur loafers? A major fashion miss from Brian Austin Green, who wore this odd mix to BuzzFeed's "AM to DM" in New York City on Aug. 13.
Troian Bellisario stepped out in New York City on Aug. 12 in this darling Mulberry number. The sleeveless frock featured a gingham pattern in red, yellow and navy with the fun addition of a gold faux-belt at the waist. She paired the minidress with a pair of brown ankle-strap heels for a perfect New York summer fashion moment.
We appreciate the unique take on the menswear trend, but Tatiana Maslany's shorts suit still fell among the misses this month. The star donned this houndstooth pairing to the premiere of "Ready or Not" in Los Angeles on Aug. 19, and though we liked the idea, the length and the way she paired it with a crop top killed this look for us.
Rachael Leigh Cook rocked a pretty pink Christine Alcalay romper to the premiere of "Brittany Runs a Marathon" in Los Angeles on Aug. 15. She expertly added black accessories from the belt to the clutch to those cool backless pointy-toe heels.
Check out this odd Givenchy selection that Julianne Moore wore to a screening of "After the Wedding" in New York City on Aug. 6, for example. The typically well-dressed star sported this odd black-and-white minidress featuring a fitted bodice with a drop waist that gave way to a puffy white skirt. But the strangest element of the ensemble had to be the frilly white collar at the top. Making matters worse? Her shoe selection! Get a better look next…
Julianne Moore's Givenchy dress wasn't great, but these shoes are next-level awful. Upon closer inspection, the pointy-toe booties aren't just an odd shade — they're transparent! In adding these to an already questionable outfit, Julianne earned herself a major fashion citation.
Our favorite look this month? The custom Saint Laurent minidress that Dakota Johnson wore to a screening of "The Peanut Butter Falcon" on Aug. 1. From the halter neckline to the unique keyhole cut-out to the bow detail along the bodice and the fitted miniskirt, everything about this printed frock was perfection. She completed her look with simple black sandals and a messy updo, easily scoring herself a spot on the hit list.
Ruby Rose is always a wildcard in the fashion department, so we weren't stunned to see her in this disastrous Dior design. From the high neck and gingham-patterned top to the leather belt at the waist giving way to the completely sheer netted skirt, her look at the CW's All Star Party during the TCA Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles on Aug. 4 left us with plenty of questions, namely — why?!
We loved the simple silver minidress that Michelle Williams wore to a screening of "After the Wedding" in New York City on Aug. 6. From the delicate embellishments along the neckline to the way it paired perfectly with those shiny metallic sandals, this look and her blunt platinum blonde bob get an A+.
Yikes! The white pantsuit sans undershirt would have been fine — if not a little ill-fitting — but Jeannie Mai crossed the line with that bizarre blue visor. The TV host donned this confusing ensemble at ABC's TCA Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles on Aug. 5 and scored a big miss.
Penelope Cruz brought some much needed glam to August! The star donned this sweet Ralph & Russo number with tiered layers of sparkle and white feathers to the "Pain and Glory" premiere in London on Aug. 8. She completed the look with simple strappy gold heels and opted for an updo so all eyes stayed on that stellar dress selection.
What on earth is going on here, Taye Diggs? From the cargo pants to those shoes to the floral short-sleeved button-up to that tie, it was as if Taye Diggs was aiming for a spot on the miss list with this ensemble. He wore the unfortunate getup to the CW's All Star Party during the TCA Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles on Aug. 4.
Anne Hathaway took her baby bump out for a spin on the red carpet in this gorgeous custom Brandon Maxwell design. The actress, who recently announced she was pregnant with her second child, donned this hot pink number with just the right amount of cut-outs at the "Sea Wall / A Life" opening night in New York City on Aug. 8. And when it came time to pick shoes, she selected silver strappy sandals to add some shine.
There was a whole lot happening on Camila Cabello's pale pink minidress… a little too much for our liking. The Zuhair Murad number featured some extra embellishment and frills, which overpowered the tiny frock — though we did love the way she paired it with those metallic pumps.
Lady in red! Ginnifer Goodwin's Preen by Thornton Bregazzi frock knocked it out of the park at the "Why Women Kill" premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 7. We loved the hue, the sweet ruffle along the bodice and the way she paired it with even more red with those pointy-toe pumps.
To say we weren't crazy about Eva Longoria's odd Maticevski bronze frock would be a serious understatement. The star wore this unfortunate confection to a taping of "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" in New York City on Aug. 5. The odd hemline, wrinkled fabric and mismatched brown belt scored Eva a fashion citation!
One of our favorite jumpsuits of the month comes from Nikki Reed! The beauty donned this pink Rodarte one-piece to the MADE x Rodarte launch in Los Angeles on Aug. 1 and we couldn't decide what we loved more — that perfect fuchsia hue or the jumpsuit's long-sleeved plunging neckline top half. Pairing it with silver heels elevated things even further, bringing some shine to this cool summertime look.
We've seen asymmetrical hemlines on dresses, but on rompers? We're not quite sure we can get behind the unusual cut of the sleeveless jumpsuit Angela Bassett wore to the FOX TCA Summer Press Tour Party in Los Angeles on Aug. 7. Though we loved that mustard yellow shade and the braided belt, the different length of the pant legs was an odd — though very unique! — stylistic choice. We're not sure pairing this yellow hue with gold heels was a good decision either. Sorry, Angela!
Katie Holmes perfected cool summer street style in New York City on Aug. 4 in this short-sleeved Gucci sweater. She paired the designer item with jeans and white sneakers and rocked her hair in a topknot to keep cool.
Another example of great summer street style? Sofia Richie, who kept things cool yet super-simple while stepping out in Los Angeles on Aug. 3. Scott Disick's other half paired a plain white T-shirt with ripped denim and white sandals for some stylish summer fashion inspiration.
All that glitters isn't always gold. Case in point? The overly shiny three-quarter-length-sleeved frock by Viktor & Rolf that Lucy Hale wore to the CW's All Star Party during the TCA Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles on Aug. 4. The star's purple and silver dress featured silk pockets and a silver fringed hem, but the all-over sparkle paired with the covered-up cut felt like an odd contrast. And accessorizing with pale gold Schutz Altina heels certainly wasn't the right choice.
Oprah Winfrey rocked this crisp white frock to the "David Makes Man" premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 6. The mogul's midi-length frock with bell sleeves, which she paired with tan pointy-toe pumps, made for a perfect ensemble for a nighttime summer premiere.
We love a good mixed print, but Thandie Newton's Variety Power of Young Hollywood frock paired two very busy prints. The result? A fashion miss, despite the fact that she wore it with those great strappy nude heels.
"The Bachelorette" star Hannah Brown selected the perfect hot pink frock for the ABC TCA Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles on Aug. 5. From the sleek cut to the way she paired it with those sheer sandals, this look stood out on the sandy-colored carpet.
Though we loved Elisabeth Moss's sweet red Self-Portrait minidress, we hated the way she paired it with those stark black pointy-toe heels. She sported the mismatched shoe choice at the Season 3 premiere of "The Handmaid's Tale" in Los Angeles on Aug. 6.
Julianne Moore's pink Givenchy pantsuit won us over — we fell hard for this breezy and beautiful look! The star wore it while stopping by the "Good Morning America" studios on Aug. 1.
A full-length chambray skirt? We weren't fans of Ava DuVernay's getup at the "David Makes Man" premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 6. The filmmaker paired the odd skirt choice with a black top and a pretty embroidered cropped jacket — a look we wouldn't want to wear in this summer heat!
We adored the perfect summery white frock that Kate Walsh wore to the "After the Wedding" screening in New York City on Aug. 6. The star's long-sleeved minidress featured just the right amount of tulle, an interesting high neckline and a delicately pleated skirt.
We'll never get behind a half-sheer skirt. Tori Spelling tried this unfortunate style out at the FOX TCA Summer Press Tour Party in Los Angeles on Aug. 7. And even if we'd been fans of this odd semi-sheer flesh-toned frock with a black pattern over top, she still completely lost us with that funky shoe choice.
Maggie Gyllenhaal's little black dress at the opening of "Sea Wall / A Life" in New York City on Aug. 8 was anything but boring! We loved the interesting double-strap design and the way she paired it with simple black pumps.
