Mel Gibson's close relationship with President Donald Trump may have cost someone their employment.
Department of Justice Pardon Attorney Liz Oyer claimed she was fired from her job on Friday, March 7, because she stayed firm on not restoring the Braveheart actor's gun ownership rights despite pressure from higher-ups and the commander-in-chief to allow Gibson to own a weapon.

In 2011, Mel Gibson — who has been a longtime supporter of Donald Trump — was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence. The A-lister pled no contest to the charges as part of a settlement. Gibson did not spend time in jail but did have his gun rights taken away.As a part of her former role on the committee that reviews applications to restore gun rights, Liz Oyer recommended Gibson's restrictions to use weapons stay in place for "safety" reasons.

"Giving guns back to domestic abusers is a serious matter that, in my view, is not something that I could recommend lightly, because there are real consequences that flow from people who have a history of domestic violence being in possession of firearms," Liz Oyer told The New York Times about why she didn't think it was safe to have Mel Gibson's gun ownership rights reversed despite people wanting to please Donald Trump.According to the ex-government worker, a higher-up contacted her hours later who "essentially explained to me that Mel Gibson has a personal relationship with President Trump and that should be sufficient basis for me to make a recommendation and that I would be wise to make the recommendation."

Although people in power put pressure on Liz Oyer, she did not change her stance. However, she reminded them that the Attorney General can make the ultimate decision. Sadly, the next morning she was let go from her job.
Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight were named by Donald Trump as his "special envoys" to Hollywood after the right-wing leader won the 2024 election.

"It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California," Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post in January. As for what the actors would be doing to help the country, the Republican explained, "They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK — BIGGER, BETTER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood."

Despite being bestowed with the honor, Mel Gibson revealed he didn't know anything about it until Donald Trump shared the social media update."I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can," the Mad Max star told Variety. "Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador's residence?"
