Prince Harry ripped for 'hypocrisy,' hijacking event

Prince Harry is being slammed for paying tribute to his late grandfather, Prince Philip. After the Duke of Sussex wrote a personal letter honoring his grandfather on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, many are calling Harry a "hypocrite" for causing Philip stress in the final years of his life.

Prince Harry reportedly recruited a friend to leave a letter and a wreath of red poppies at the Burma Star Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in England for Prince Philip — who died in 2021 — after his father, King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, left an official service of remembrance. In the letter, which a news outlet photographed, the 40-year-old wrote, "For me, this anniversary carries an added layer of meaning. My late grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, served in the Pacific campaign. He spoke with quiet humility about those years, but I know how deeply he respected all who stood beside him in that theatre of war. … Today, as I think of him, I think also of each of you, of the shared hardships, the bonds forged and the legacy you leave."

According to insiders, Prince Harry's gesture for Prince Philip — which some critics perceived as "hijacking" the event — caused "unease at the palace." Said one source, referring to the duke's decision to retire from his royal duties with his wife, Meghan Markle, and move to the United States in 2020, "What hypocrisy. Harry hurt his grandfather deeply during the final year of his life.

Other critics called Prince Harry's note for Prince Philip a "PR stunt" and claimed he was trying to upstage Prince William and Kate Middleton — who were not present at the event. "It was obviously a PR stunt. Bottom line is, if you didn't want it to be a PR stunt, just leave it there," royal author Robert Jobson said. "Somebody would see it. It would get passed to the press eventually. It was a little bit too slick. It was part of Operation Rebuild Harry. The Prince and Princess of Wales absolutely should have been there. … A lot of people respected Harry for the Invictus Games, for his own service. You don't need to do stunts. I can almost hear the derision coming out of the Duke of Edinburgh's mouth. The [late] duke was a serviceman. It wasn't about himself. Harry was advised by his father [King Charles III] to think very carefully about what he does. You make your bed, you lie in it."

King Charles III is looking to hire someone to fill the role of Royal Engagements Officer — essentially a palace travel planner. The monarch reportedly needs someone who can handle "sensitive and complex issues." The new staffer will work with the Private Secretary's Office at Buckingham Palace.

The employee will be hired on a fixed-term contract for November 2025 to November 2026. The role lists about £40,000 (about $54,000) as the yearly salary with 37.5 hours of work a week. As a member of the Royal Engagements team, the staffer will share a mission to create "meaningful contact between Their Majesties and the world through careful coordination, thoughtful briefings, and seamless delivery of engagements."

The job description stressed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla need someone who is "adept at absorbing and rapidly assimilating often complex and nuanced material."

Donald Trump didn't hesitate to reflect on the afterlife in the interview. He said of standing up for people of faith, "I just do it because I know it's true. If you look around, I mean, people of faith, there's a feeling they want to be good. You know, they get punished if they're not good, right? If you don't think about that, if you're not a believer, and you believe you go nowhere, what's the reason to be good, really?"

"There has to be some kind of a report card up there someplace, you know, like, let's go to heaven, let's get into heaven. It's sort of a beautiful thing," Donald Trump continued. "Look, religion was the backbone of our country, it's much less so now, but it's getting much stronger under me."

Donald Trump went on to claim that the state of organized religion in the United State was "terrible under [Joe] Biden." Said the former reality star, "I was so amazed. You know, I won the evangelicals by like 88%, but I was trying to figure out who are the other 12%. How could they vote for [Kamala Harris]? You know, I mean, she was so pathetic and Biden, you know, it's a combination, what was worse than the other? Why do they do that? It's like, you can't imagine them wanting to do that."

Donald Trump went on to link Joe Biden's policies during the pandemic to the state of organized religion in the United States. "You saw what they did to you. They were closing churches — even if the people went outside and they were 10 feet apart," he complained. "They were going in and raiding them, and, you know, treating them like prisoners, like, you know, like horrible people and they're great people."

Donald Trump concluded by praising Christians and their presence in the U.S. "They were the backbone of this country — and they still are. But they were dwindling. But I'm telling you, they're coming back — religion's coming back. And religion brings our country together — all religions. A lot of religions. I mean, some are — some I could question, I guess, to be honest with you — a little rough philosophy there. But religion brings our country together, and it's a great thing. It's a great thing. And we have to bring it back stronger — and it has made tremendous inroads."

Meghan Markle shared a picture of sliced potatoes cooking in oil, presumably from the kitchen of her Montecito, Calif., home. "New season of With Love, Meghan August 26 on Netflix," the mother of two wrote over the photo before joking, "Dare I say, 'It's all that… and a bag of chips.'"

People on social media went into a rage over Meghan Markle's activity in the kitchen. "This isn't new, exciting or inventive. I tried making chips with my kids 30 years ago," one person wrote on X. "Beige. Not even healthy enough to be beige actually. Not appetizing," another critic wrote. "Ok I get it they're still being cooked and not yet browned, but potato chips? I think we ALL can make potato chips. Is this and pasta the extent of her cooking skills? Thus far I've seen nothing she's made that I'd want to try," a third critic noted.

Some social media users targeted Meghan Markle's lifestyle show — which will return for Season 2 on August 26 — and Netflix. "Anyone get the sense Netflix doesn't care at all about this show? This is not enticing at all," one X user wrote. "They don't seem to care about the show or the brand, it's an absolute mess and a brand as big as Netflix would have made it successful or at least not seem this amateurish," a second person wrote.

Luckily for Meghan Markle, Netflix isn't listening to the naysayers. The former Suits actress recently announced that she and her husband, Prince Harry, will be continuing their partnership with the streaming service beyond Season 2 of With Love, Meghan. "We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand," she said in a statement. Royal expert Robert Jobson told The Sun that he worries Prince William could "become less connected to the people" if the royal family is stretched too thin with commitments, especially as he and Kate Middleton put down roots at Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, which is more than 100 miles away from London's Buckingham Palace. He warned that the future king risks losing touch with the general public, pointing out that it's still important to the people that they have the opportunity to see and connect with the royal family. "People do turn out when they see, particularly people like Sophie Wessex and the new Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward. They turn out in droves. They like that connection. And if you lose that connection, the monarchy actually loses something that it's about," Jobson said.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal fold in 2020, and their absence was highlighted when both Kate Middleton and King Charles III had to step away from their duties while battling cancer. Some royal experts wonder who Prince William will lean on when he ascends the throne without the Sussexes in the picture. "I think you've got to be careful what you wish for," Robert Jobson stressed, noting that Prince William is changing "things the way he wants to" and royal watchers will have to "wait and see" what the Prince of Wales does.

Matt Wilkson pointed out that Prince William is "very much focusing on his young family," while his father, King Charles III, "doesn't have a very young family that he has to make sure he's at home when they get back from school." He added that "that's what William enjoys."

Prince William and Kate Middleton left London for a quieter life at Windsor Great Park, where they're often seen taking their little ones to school themselves. "[William] enjoys the school run, and he wants to bring his children up in the countryside," Matt Wilkson said. "His life is very different to what King Charles' is."

While past monarchs had a reputation for being less present at home, Prince William is changing what it means to be a royal father. "I know the late Queen Elizabeth II … worked extremely hard when she was bringing up her children, but that's what William perhaps is choosing not to do," Matt Wilkson said, adding that "it's a different era."

According to Ingrid Seward, the author of the royal biography My Mother and I, Meghan Markle is "disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists" in the U.K. "They see her as being very damaging to the royal family. And also, I think a lot of people in America feel the same. They don't like that Meghan [reportedly] dissed her husband's family and dissed her own family," the writer explained in an interview.

Like Prince Harry, Meghan Markle is estranged from a large portion of her family. She's been on bad terms with her father, Thomas Markle, since their 2018 nuptials. "It's just extraordinary to think that her children have not met their grandfather," Ingrid Seward said. "I think people in the States find that extremely odd and [we] find it very odd here. And I think that's a real black mark against Meghan's character. I think she hasn't been able to embrace her own family, however much she feels about them. I mean, Harry's never even met her father, which is extraordinary. There are a lot of difficult emotions [to] get over there."

According to royal expert Hilary Fordwich, Prince William and the people of England are also weary of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's tendency to speak publicly about private matters. "Persistent lack of trust is the main reason why senior royals remain reluctant to engage in reconciliation efforts," she said in an interview. "Their concerns are well-founded, that any private family discussions could become public or be used for commercial projects. Meghan has no sense of duty toward the British public nor the institution."

Fans of the royal family largely blame Meghan Markle for the falling out between Prince Harry and Prince William, who show no signs of reconciliation. "The rift is very profound and very long-lasting," Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers explained in an interview. "It will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologizes." Said Ingrid Seward, "Harry thinks that William insulted Meghan. I think when you have that kind of animosity, it's really hard to [get around it]. I just don't see any kind of reparation. I just don't see it at this moment."

Donald Trump expressed how dead set he is on getting rid of mail-in ballots and holding a new census ahead of the upcoming elections. "[It's] the biggest thing we can do — it's bigger even than the reapportionment. It's bigger than anything we can do as a party. Our elections are extremely corrupt. The mail-in ballots, the system is so corrupt. You know, Colorado went to it. You don't even go to a state that does it, because when they go mail-in, the Democrats — the only way they're going to win is mail-in ballots. That's the only way. I say we'd pick up a hundred seats if you had real elections, meaning you go to the voters," he told Todd Starnes.

Donald Trump — who couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a jab at California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom — even went so far as to claim that California would go red if the state did away with mail-in ballots. "I think I would have won California. I think I'd win California right now over that terrible governor," he said. "I mean, he is such a pathetic guy, one of the worst. But the mail-in ballots and the mail-in voting and then you put them together with the machines and you have to — that's why I said make it too big to rig."

Donald Trump has continuously ranted about mail-in ballots and why he thinks they're corrupt. "I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS and also, while we're at it, highly 'inaccurate,' very expensive and seriously controversial VOTING MACHINES, which cost ten times more than accurate and sophisticated watermark paper, which is faster and leaves NO DOUBT, at the end of the evening, as to who WON and who LOST, the election," he wrote on Truth Social. Remember, the states are merely an 'agent' for the federal government in counting and tabulating the votes. … They must do what the federal government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY, to do. With their HORRIBLE radical left policies, like open borders, men playing in women's sports, transgender and 'WOKE' for everyone and so much more, Democrats are virtually unelectable without using this completely disproven mail-In SCAM."

Royals with the best GCSE scores ranked

Modern royals shifted away from the tradition of being educated at home by tutors and have instead attended the U.K.'s most elite institutions, where they've taken their GCSE exams before graduating along with every other student. In honor of English students getting their GCSE results this week, we're looking back at how some of the top royals performed over the years and counting down to see who did best — from King Charles III to Prince William and everyone in between.

8. King Charles III
King Charles III might be a Cambridge alum, but he was surprisingly the lowest-ranked on the list. While attending the Scottish Gordonstoun boarding school, Charles graduated with five O-levels (now known as GCSE courses) and two A-levels. He reportedly earned a B in history and C in French.


6. Zara Tindall (tied)
Zara Tindall attended the prestigious Gordonstoun School in Scotland. While enrolled, she earned 11 GCSEs with grades A to C. She later earned a B and a C in her A-Levels.
6. Peter Phillips (tied)
Like sister Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips attended the prestigious Gordonstoun School in Scotland. He went on to become the second member of the royal family ever to attend college, after his cousin, King Charles III.
5. Prince Harry
Prince Harry has called his exams at Eton College a "nightmare," though he was still able to get 11 GCSEs. He later snagged a B in A-Level art and a D in geography.
4. Princess Beatrice
Princess Beatrice often discusses her struggles with dyslexia, but she still managed to get two As in the nine GCSEs she took while at St. George's School. She scored an A in drama and Bs in history and film studies.
3. Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton excelled while studying at Marlborough College. The Princess of Wales got 11 GCSEs and later earned As in maths and art, plus a B in A-Level English.
2. Princess Eugenie
Like Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie attended Marlborough College, where she earned four As and three Bs in her GCSEs. She also earned As in A-level art and English literature, plus a B in art history. Her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, were so proud of her that they release a statement saying, "She has worked extremely hard towards these justifiably fantastic results."

Per numerous insiders, Tyler Perry is feeling "bone deep" hurt after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went radio silent when a former staffer sued the producer for s***** harassment in June.

"Harry and Meghan have said nothing — not one word — to him since the news came out," they alleged. "There have been no public proclamations or private calls. Nothing. And this is the man who saved them when they fled England. There is no loyalty. They only care about themselves."

According to court documents, actor Derek Dixon took legal action against Tyler Perry, claiming he "sustained a pattern of workplace s***** harassment, assault and retaliation" within his company.

After the lawsuit was filed, the screenwriter fired back at the accusations through his attorney. "This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam. But Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail," lawyer Matthew Boyd made clear in a statement.

Despite never meeting before, Tyler Perry offered his help to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they decided to step down from their royal duties and leave the U.K. The filmmaker — who is now the godfather to their daughter, Princess Lilibet — gave them his private jet to fly the pair and their son, Prince Archie, from Canada to Los Angeles, Calif. Upon arriving on the West Coast, Perry lent the pair his home to stay at.

"I had never met him before. I was a wreck, just crying and crying. Sometimes it's easier to open up to someone who knows nothing at all," the With Love, Meghan star said in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.

Although Julia Lemigova and Alexia Nepola did not hit it off at first, the two have become extremely close friends. "Alexia and I really grew to love each other slowly and organically," the model explains. "As you remember, it was not the case in the beginning. But that's how real friendships work sometimes. You organically get to know each other. It's not forced. … I've seen Alexia for who she really is. She showed me so much support. The biggest thing is, I know she wishes me well and vice versa. She checks on me. It's women empowering each other. We're at all not jealous with each other. There's no envy."

Julia Lemigova makes it clear she deeply regrets throwing water at former close friend Guerdy Abraira. "What I did was dirty with the water situation. It was totally out of character. "I'm a very proud mom and so is Martina [Navratilova]," Julia Lemigova says of the sons she recently adopted with the tennis champion. "I'm so happy to be able to share our life, our family and to show the people who we really are because that's what we show. Also, I love that I will always have those memories. The footage will always be there, and I can see the boys grow. They're so much bigger now. You all will get to see them smile more and say more things. She adds of getting through the show's dramatic moments, "I do my best to stay grounded. … I know who I am. But my wife, my children — my boys, my daughters — my animals, they are my safe space. They are what gives me my energy and emotional well-being."

Tom Quinn claims in his book, Yes, Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, that Princess Margaret "could never really quite believe that she needed to change the way she treated her staff."

Tom Quinn alleged that if Princess Margaret's TV was warm, she'd be put into a "rage." He explained that the princess assumed if the TV was warm, it meant someone else has been using it. "She also hated it if any of her personal things had been moved without permission and would berate a servant in front of others, which could be humiliating," he wrote.

Princess Margaret didn't care that her behavior harmed others. "She didn't care because she had, I think, a slightly sadistic streak or maybe wanted to hurt people because she had been hurt," one staffer told Tom Quinn, who shared that Margaret would tell her team, "Shoo! Shoo!" or "Go on, bugger off," when she argued with her husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.

While some staffers viewed Princess Margaret as cold, others experienced a warmer side of her. "When she heard I was getting divorced, she insisted I take extra time off if I needed it – she gave me two weeks and said if it wasn't enough, I was to take more. She was really sweet about it," one former servant told Tom Quinn.

"Margaret's treatment of her staff has a transitional feel to it. She had a great deal of her ancestors' tendency to treat staff as objects, at the same time occasionally seeing and responding to their humanity," Tom Quinn noted. "When she got angry with her staff, it was often because she was angry with her life and especially with her relationship with her husband, Lord Snowdon [Antony Armstrong-Jones]."

Ex-staffer Grant Harrold claims in his new memoir that Prince Philip did not hold back after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot. "Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple and then the other members of the royal family filed out of the chapel," he writes, adding that "when Prince Philip came out, he turned to [Queen Elizabeth II] and said, 'Thank f*** that's over.'"

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018, with thousands of bystanders in the streets and millions of people watching across the globe. Grant Harrold discusses the 2005 royal wedding in his new book, The Royal Butler. He describes Prince Harry and Prince William as supportive of their father, King Charles II, and his bride, Queen Camilla. "We all went outside to wave them off and laughed as we saw William and Harry had decorated their car with 'Just Married,'" Harrold claims. "As they drove off through the arches to cheers, the boys raced after the car."

In Spare, Prince Harry claimed he begged King Charles not to marry Queen Camilla, who was his father's mistress during his marriage to Princess Diana. "Despite Willy and me urging him not to, Pa was going ahead. We pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings," he wrote of the sendoff with his brother, Prince William, adding that they "recognized" that their father was "finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he'd always loved."

While Grant Harrold's confession poked holes in Prince Harry's story, he insisted that he isn't trying to bring drama into the royal family's lives. "I'm not trying to do a Paul Burrell," Harrold claimed, referencing Princess Diana's former butler, who often gives interviews about the royals.

During a 2023 court appearance, Prince Harry slammed Paul Burrell and "how indiscreet [he] had proven to be with the way he had sold our mother's possessions and how he had given numerous interviews about her." Meghan Markle goes sans glam in intimate at-home clip

Meghan Markle is getting busy in the kitchen.

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to share a video of herself whipping up a pasta dish at the Montecito, Calif., home she shares with her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In the clip, set to the tune of Annette Funicello's "Mia Cara, Mia Amore," Meghan ditched the glam as she showed herself gathering garlic, lemons, olive oil and spaghetti to make the hearty meal.

The camera then panned to jars of the Suits star's As Ever jam on the counter as she poured a glass of the lifestyle brand's rosé to pair with her dinner.

"Cooking up more than pasta (with homemade preserved lemons)….. so much goodness is coming soon," Meghan — who was dressed in a casual white button-up and jeans — teased in the update.

The mother of two giving followers a glimpse inside the house she shares with her family comes as a surprise, as Meghan decided against filming her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, on the property.

"I wanted to protect that safe haven," the entrepreneur explained in an interview. "We're a close-knit family and I love those moments — putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, having sacred time together at the end of the day."

"Our kitchen is where Mama just cooks for the family and with a crew of 80-plus people, that's a lot of people to have in your house!" Meghan noted.

After much speculation, the matriarch's lifestyle series will return for a second season on August 26, following the announcement that Meghan and her spouse would be continuing their partnership with Netflix after all.

"We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand," she announced in a statement. "My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally and celebrates our shared vision."

The Thai royals released a statement sharing that Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol's medical team "detected a severe infection in the bloodstream, leading them to administer antibiotics and medication to stimulate blood pressure in order to maintain stable levels. … The doctors have reported that the Princess' lungs and kidneys have been functioning with support from medical devices and medication."

Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol — the eldest of King Maha Vajiralongkorn's children — has been in the hospital since 2022 after she collapsed due to a heart condition. Hello! reported the princess' care includes a "broad-spectrum [of] antibiotics and dialysis sessions to replace her deteriorating kidney function."

Before she got sick, Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol earned a degree in international relations from Thammasat University. She later earned a law degree from Cornell University. She used her education and high profile to advocate for incarcerated women in Thailand.

Norway's Crown Prince Haakon breaks silence on stepson's charges

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has addressed the assault charges against his stepson, Marius Borg Høiby. Høiby faces 32 criminal charges following his August 2024 arrest after a woman accused him of attacking her "psychologically and physically," according to Se og Hør.

"We will continue to carry out our duties as best we can, as we always do," Crown Prince Haakon of Norway said, according to Reuters, adding that "everyone involved in this case probably finds it challenging and difficult."

It was reported that Marius Borg Høiby — who's Crown Princess Mette-Marit's child from a previous relationship — is expected to plead to the lesser charges against him, though not to assault. "He does not agree with the claims regarding r*** and domestic violence," his lawyer, Petar Sekulic, said, according to Reuters, which reported that Høiby's criminal charges include accusations from four different women.

Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo noted that Marius Borg Høiby's proximity to the throne shouldn't be taken into consideration. "The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is a member of the royal family should, of course, not mean that he should be treated more lightly or more severely than if similar acts had been committed by others," he said.

Marius Borg Høiby's mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, previously opened up about how "demanding" 2024 was for her family. She stressed on the NRK program The Year of the Royal Family 2024 that her son has a right to privacy, though she acknowledged that they'd sought "professional help" to treat his issues "for a long time." Said the princess, "I don't think we would have been able to be in a situation like this without having that help, together as a family, and at the same time fulfill our obligations to the Norwegian people."

During the chat, Princess Charlene — who was an Olympic swimmer before she married Prince Albert — got candid about losing her cousin Richard when they were both children. "Richard drowned in a river very close to my uncle's house. He was only 5 years old. It was devastating for our whole family. I don't think that kind of pain ever really goes away," she said.

Princess Charlene is now determined to turn her trauma into activism. The 47-year-old emphasized how water safety "should be a fundamental right, just like learning to read." Insisted the former Olympian, "Cost should never be a barrier to acquiring a life-saving skill."

Princess Charlene also said she's "deeply concerned by the sharp rise in the number of drownings" during the summer months. While the former athlete acknowledges how fortunate the city of Monaco is to have "high-quality facilities and supervision," she feels even more precautions should be put in place. "Vigilance is still necessary," she said, adding that "nowhere is totally safe."
