Dane Cook imitated his favorite comedians Bill Cosby and Johnny Carson for his parents and six siblings in the living room in the Boston suburbs. While studying graphic design as a back-up plan, he took his act to comedy clubs in 1990, eventually landing a spot on Comedy Central's Premium Blend in 1998 and releasing his first CD, Harmful If Swallowed, in 2003. He was one of the first performers to embrace the Internet and social media platforms like MySpace to create a brand and connect with fans. His 2005 disc, Retaliation, became the most successful comedy album since Steve Martin's A Wild And Crazy Guy and it prompted Cook to found his production company, Superfinger Entertainment. He has sold out Madison Square Garden, did a 20-college travelling show called Tourgasm and HBO special, headlined a failed TV pilot, hosted two of the highest-rated Saturday Night Live episodes and broke The Laugh Factory's endurance record twice. He bested previous champions Richard Pryb n or and Dave Chappelle by performing on stage for seven hours. Unfortunately, the silly storyteller became another victim of mo' money, mo' problems when he realized his half-brother Darryl McCauley had embezzled millions from him while working as Cook's business manager in the early 2000s. His leap to feature films — Employee of The Month, Dan In Real Life, Mr. Brooks and Good Luck Chuck — never took off in the same way although he has not stopped trying to act. He has made recent appearances on Hawaii Five-o and Louie.
