Bessent Contradicts Trump on Tariffs

Scott Bessent is finally owning the fact that Donald Trump's tariffs may cause financial strain to the American people.

During a Sunday, May 18, appearance on CNN, the president's treasury secretary admitted customers in the United States would be the ones to carry the burden of the newly imposed taxes on goods sold at Walmart.

Scott Bessent told CNN he'd spoken with Walmart's CEO after Donald Trump made it clear the company should not be jacking up the prices of their products due to new tariffs. Despite admitting the duties were not great for buyers, he blamed their fright on former president Joe Biden.

"Walmart will be absorbing some of the tariffs, some may get passed on to consumers," he said. "Overall, I would expect inflation to remain in line. But I don't blame consumers for being skittish after what happened to them for years under Biden."

On Saturday, May 17, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to allege that Walmart is using the tariffs as a scapegoat for greed.

"Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain," he wrote. "Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, 'EAT THE TARIFFS' and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I'll be watching, and so will your customers!!!"

Despite Donald Trump's claims, higher-ups at Walmart are making it clear their prices only increased after the Republican leader's tariffs went into effect in April.

"We're wired to keep prices low, but there's a limit to what we can bear, or any retailer for that matter," Walmart CFO John David Rainey said in a Thursday, May 15, statement.

Despite some people's lack of faith in Donald Trump's economic plan for America, he's continuously claimed the financial hardship will only be temporary. The right-winger has also put the blame for the country's monetary issues on former President Joe Biden's leadership.

"They are already in effect and a beautiful thing to behold. The Surplus with these Countries has grown during the 'Presidency' of Sleepy Joe Biden," Trump boasted on Truth Social after the duties went into effect. "We are going to reverse it and reverse it QUICKLY. Some day people will realize that Tariffs, for the United States of America, are a very beautiful thing!"

Supreme Court Shuts Down Trump

The Supreme Court is pausing one of Donald Trump's deportation actions.

In an unsigned Friday, May 16, order, the judges ruled the current commander-in-chief cannot use the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act to ship a group of alleged Venezuelan gang members out of the United States without a lower court deciding on how far in advance they should have been notified about their possible deportations.

In the recent ruling, the Supreme Court determined the alleged gang members currently being held in a Texas prison should remain in the United States while the case goes back to the New Orleans-based Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to make the ultimate decision.

On Saturday, April 19, the judges also blocked Donald Trump and his administration's use of the 1798 law, to send people out of the country without due process.

"We did not on April 19 — and do not now — address the underlying merits of the parties' claims regarding the legality of removals under the AEA," the recent opinion made clear.

However, they also stated the government could still deport the individuals "under other lawful authorities" if they were truly a threat to America.

The Supreme Court claimed part of their reasoning for the ruling was Donald Trump and his administration's refusal to return wrongfully deported MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States.  

"The Government has represented elsewhere that it is unable to provide for the return of an individual deported in error to a prison in El Salvador where it is alleged that detainees face indefinite detention," they stated. "The [Texas] detainees' interests at stake are accordingly particularly weighty. Under these circumstances, notice roughly 24 hours before removal, devoid of information about how to exercise due process rights to contest that removal, surely does not pass muster."

Despite the strong ruling, conservative justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas issued dissents from the order.

"From the Court's order, it is not entirely clear whether the Court has silently decided issues that go beyond the question of interim relief. (I certainly hope that it has not.)," Alito penned. "But if it has done so, today's order is doubly extraordinary. Granting certiorari before a court of appeals has entered a judgment is a sharp departure from usual practice, but here neither the Court of Appeals nor the District Court has decided any merits questions."

Following the ruling, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account on Friday, May 16, to rage against the Supreme Court.

"The Supreme Court has just ruled that the worst murderers, drug dealers, gang members and even those who are mentally insane, who came into our country illegally, are not allowed to be forced out without going through a long, protracted and expensive legal process, one that will take, possibly, many years for each person and one that will allow these people to commit many crimes before they even see the inside of a Courthouse," he alleged.

The Republican leader even went on to blame former president Joe Biden and praised Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas for their dissents from the order.

"The result of this decision will let more CRIMINALS pour into our country, doing great harm to our cherished American public. It will also encourage other criminals to illegally enter our Country, wreaking havoc and bedlam wherever they go. The Supreme Court of the United States is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do. Sleepy Joe Biden allowed MILLIONS of Criminal Aliens to come into our Country without any 'PROCESS' but, in order to get them out of our country, we have to go through a long and extended PROCESS. In any event, thank you to Justice Alito and Justice Thomas for attempting to protect our Country. This is a bad and dangerous day for America!" Trump concluded.

Trump Rips Zelensky Again

Donald Trump claimed Volodymyr Zelensky wasted billions of dollars of U.S. aid for Ukraine.

"The money is the money," Trump said on Fox News' Special Report on Friday, May 16. "What bothered me — I hated to see the way it was, you know, excuse me, p***** away." 

"I hated to see that checks were sent for $60 billion every time Zelensky [traveled to Washington]," he continued.

Donald Trump later hinted that there wasn't a clear explanation for how Volodymyr Zelensky used the funds.

"I think he's the greatest salesman in the world. Far better than me," Trump said of Zelensky.

"Where is all this money going?" he added.

Special Report host Bret Baier attempted to shift the conversation toward Vladimir Putin, but Donald Trump wasn't have it.

"I'm focused on Putin," Baier said.

"We send checks. We don't always send equipment. We send — just checks. We send — just cash. Where is it?" Trump continued of Ukraine and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Donald Trump told Bret Baier to "wait" before asserting that the U.S. was "treated worse" than any European nation by Ukraine.

"We inherited this mess, but I think it's going to get solved," Trump added.

Donald Trump later hinted at scheduling a meeting with Vladimir Putin to discuss the conflict.

"I think we'll do it fast," Trump said when asked about talking to Putin.

"I think he's tired of this whole thing," the president added. "He's not looking good, and he wants to look good."

Donald Trump got the royal treatment in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, but Bill Maher recently slammed the president's decision to accept a $400 million jet from the Qatari royal family.

"He was in the Middle East this week. A lot of stuff happened. He's in Saudi Arabia. Boy, they have a bromance going on over there," Bill Maher said in a Friday, May 16, episode of Real Time With Bill Maher.
"Well, they do, I mean… Bromance diplomacy, I call it, but, you know…Trump has a unique bond with the Saudis, they both reshaped the Manhattan skyline,"  Maher said, in reference to Trump's real estate career and the 9/11 terrorist attack, as Osama Bin Ladin was born in Saudi Arabia but was stripped of his citizenship.

While in the Middle East, Donald Trump was pampered, as the Saudi Arbaian royals made sure to bring the president his favorite fast-food items.
Bill Maher told viewers: "They love him over there. They, these camels, they had to put that up. They had Teslas, they had horses, they have dancing girls, they said they had a purple carpet. I guess it's like a platinum gold card, you know, it's purple, not even red." 
"And they also, listen to this, they set up a mobile McDonald's there. A little different over there than McDonald's. The Happy Meal toy is a little bone saw," Maher shared.

Bill Maher also discussed how the Qatari royal family made the controversial decision to gift Donald Trump a luxury plane. However, Bill Maher noted the double standards between Donald Trump and Barack Obama.
"You know, when you travel, you're like. You'd like to leave with a souvenir, right? So, he got a $400 million plane that they gave him. They gave him a $400 million plane, which he accepted," Bill Maher stated.
"Now, this has to be the ultimate if Obama did it, I think, you know, because… If Obama did it, Fox News would be endlessly calling it Allah Force One. So, I think I will call it that, Allah Force One," the comedian joked, as Qatar is a muslim-majority nation.

According to reports, Donald Trump will use the Qatari plane temporarily as Air Force One.
Bill Maher said it is "moot anyway, because it's not going to be ready to be that if it was going to be Air Force One, so it would have to be private, which then it would be illegal."  
"But you know, it doesn't matter. Trump says he will not be using it when he leaves office, and people don't believe that. Not the using it part, the leaving office part," the commentator added.

Kristi Noem's Department of Homeland Security reportedly contributed to a 35-page pitch for the show, which, according to DailyMail.com, is the brainchild of Canadian Duck Dynasty creator Rob Worsoff.

"Along the way, we will be reminded what it means to be American — through the eyes of the people who want it most," the document reads.

"I'm not affiliated with any political ideology," Worsoff said. "As an immigrant myself, I am merely trying to make a show that celebrates the immigration process, celebrate what it means to be American and have a national conversation about what it means to be American, through the eyes of the people who want it most."

Tricia McLaughlin, who is a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, told DailyMail.com that Kristi Noem has yet to be briefed on the concept. However, the publication later revealed a source confirmed the former governor of South Dakota wants to proceed with the project.

"I think it's a good idea," McLaughlin said.

Rob Worsoff suggested famous immigrants Sofia Vergara, Ryan Reynolds and Mila Kunis as potential hosts, as the show wants to cast "a famous, naturalized American who was also born in another country."

Participants will travel around the U.S. to meet "interesting Americans."

"We'll join in the laughter, tears, frustration, and joy – hearing their backstories – as we are reminded how amazing it is to be American, through the eyes of 12 wonderful people who want nothing more than to have what we have," the pitch explains.

Immigrants will be put on teams and compete in games that highlight the nation's history, such as gold mining in San Francisco, Calif., or building a rocket in Cape Canaveral, Fla.

Winners will be sworn in by a "top American politician or judge."

A Rhode Island couple was left disappointed after their Donald Trump watch arrived with a noticeable mistake.

Tim Petit spent more than $600 on a Trump watch for his wife, Melanie Petit, but the lavish item didn't meet their expectations, as the lettering read "RUMP" instead of the president's last name.

"I just thought it was really nice. It was beautiful. And I knew it would be something that she'd like," Tim Petit told NBC 10 News of the gift for his wife.
He added that he was sold by the exclusivity of the watch: "One of 250. So that attracted me," he said.

Donald Trump promoted the accessory on Truth Social, and his endorsement intrigued Tim Petit.

"With the president's voice hawking the watches. I was curious, so I went on to the website," he said.

"It has a nice little case," his wife, Melanie Petit, chimed in. "It has the pink and little fireworks on it."

The couple was shocked to realize the luxury item didn't have Donald Trump's name on it.

"I noticed it right away," Melanie Petit said. "The T is missing. It just says R-U-M-P."

"How could they process this and go through something without checking their work?" she asked.

"I'm very disappointed. I wanted to do a special thing for her," Tim Petit said. "And we expected that it would have the integrity of the President of the United States and good follow-through."

While the GetTrumpWatches.com website claims to retail the official watches of Donald Trump, the company simply licenses the president's name.

The retailer clarified on their site "that the watches are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals."

Tim Petit urged Trump Watches to pay more attention to the manufacturing process.

"I think that someone needs to be aware of it in their licensing department, that someone's dropped the ball big time," Tim Petit said.

"We're not getting any kind of support or response," Melanie Petit added.

"We would like this corrected properly and quickly," Tim said. "An apology would be nice for making my wife cry."

Shortly after giving their interview, Tim Petit informed WSAJ that the Trump Watch brand offered to replace the item and gave him an $800 coupon to shop for alternative items on the site.

Donald Trump celebrated the investment being made in American-made military goods during his tour of the Middle East.

"Yesterday we signed an agreement for Qatar to purchase $42 billion worth of the finest American military hardware," Trump said. (Qatar will receive a Pegasus refueling aircraft, amphibious combat vehicles, the MQ-9B plane and more.)

"I don't think our friendship has ever been stronger than it is right now," he added in reference to the United States' budding diplomatic relationship with Qatar, which gifted the president a luxury jet.

Donald Trump was previously criticized for accepting a lavish present from the Qatari royal family, but he was proud to announce that the U.S. now has strengthened ties to the country.

"We have never had a relationship with Qatar as strong as it is now. You know that they're very happy, and we're going to protect you. We're going to protect you. That's the one thing you need, maybe, but I don't think you're going to need too much of that," Trump said at a business roundtable Thursday morning.

Later in the day, Donald Trump claimed Arab nations were "starving for love," and he hinted at Joe Biden's administration ignoring the region.

"They felt abandoned and they were going to be captured by China," he said.

While sitting next to Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, Donald Trump revealed his plans for a previously undisclosed Boeing F-55 fighter jet, which would be the improved version of the F-35.

"We're going to do an F-55, and I think if we get the right price — we have to get the right price — and that'll be two engines and a super upgrade on the F-35," Trump said.

"I think the most beautiful fighter jet in the world is the F-22, but we're going to do an F-22 super and it will be a very modern version of the F-22 fighter jet," the president continued.

"It travels with many, many — potentially hundreds of drones, right?" Trump asked the CEO. "You want to talk about that? Because it's very interesting."

While the Boeing executive declined to comment on any upcoming projects "for security reasons," Donald Trump couldn't contain his excitement.

"Our Air Force will soon have the world's first and only sixth-generation fighter jet, the F-47. Why did they name it 47? Does anybody know? I don't know. It was a nice thing," Trump — who is both the 45th and 47th president of the United States — later bragged in his speech to the troops.

"It's quite the plane. … But we're also looking at an increased version of the F-35. I think we're gonna call it the F-55, which will be a double-engine plane," the real estate tycoon shared. "I like two engines on a plane. I'm sorry if I say that."

After spending time discussing planes, Donald Trump announced his financial commitment to the military personnel in the crowd.

"You're a very special group of people," Trump said. "Pay raises to each and every one of you, substantial pay raises."

In response, a loud cheer rang out across Al Udeid Air Base.

"My trip is four and a half days, but this is the one [stop] I was so looking forward to, because I'm with the people that I really love and respect," Donald Trump claimed.

"We love and respect you," he added. "This is what you're doing, the service you do for your country, for you, keep us safe."

Donald Trump ended his speech by praising the U.S. and the change in its global reputation.

"We have a great country. We have a proud country. We have a country that's respected all over the world," he said. "And as I said before a year ago, we were laughed at, but nobody's laughing at our country in our country anymore."

On Thursday, May 15, James Comey took to Instagram to share a now-deleted photo of seashells arranged in a "8647" formation.

Although the picture may have seemed innocent, members of Donald Trump's administration raised alarm bells because "86" is oftentimes used to get rid of something or ejecting someone. The numeral "47" refers to the Republican leader being the 47th president of America.

"Cool shell formation on my beach walk," Comey — who worked for Trump during his first term before he was fired — captioned the post.

Donald Trump and his administration swiftly launched into action over James Comey's update.

"While President Trump is currently on an international trip to the Middle East, the former FBI Director puts out what can clearly be interpreted as 'a hit' on the sitting President of the United States — a message etched in the sand," White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich explained in a message shared to X. "This is deeply concerning to all of us and is being taken seriously."

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem revealed the FBI was looking into the situation.

"Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump," Donald Trump's staffer alleged on X. "DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately."

Kash Patel, the current FBI Director, commented on the ongoing matter, explaining on X, "Primary jurisdiction is with SS on these matters and we, the FBI, will provide all necessary support."

James Comey stanchly defended himself from the accusation he threatened Donald Trump.

"I didn't realize some folks associate it with violence. That didn't occur to me when I saw it but I am opposed to violence in all circumstances so I took it down," the attorney explained in a statement shared to Instagram.

"This is anti-American. It's against small business. I've never seen anything like it. You want to talk about [a] big, beautiful bill? This is a big, ugly piece of that bill. It's got to get fixed," Kevin O'Leary claimed of Donald Trump's tax plan during his media appearance.

The ABC star made it clear he disapproved of the proposed legislation from an entrepreneurial perspective. "For small business[es], I'm their advocate," he noted. "So, I read all these bills."

Kevin O'Leary's most imperative critique of the bill was the end of the pandemic-era Employee Retention Credit. The program gave government funds to businesses that allowed people to keep their jobs throughout the spread of COVID-19.

"That program's over. They want to give new powers to the IRS to audit all those small businesses for up to nine years. That's unprecedented. Why would we want to do that to small business?" the millionaire said. "So many of these audits would occur after the period where they don't have their records. This is war on small business."

Although Kevin O'Leary has been an advocate for many of Donald Trump's past actions during his second term in office, he emphasized how his bill must be edited before it's officially passed.

"I read it and said, 'This can't be right. Why would they do this?'" he explained. "It's outrageous that they would attack small business like this and unprecedented to get powers to the IRS like this because it won't stop there. They're looking to save money. I get it, ERC saved millions of businesses," O'Leary clarified. "Some people claimed it was fraudulent. Sure, there's fraud in every government program. But 95 percent of these businesses deserve that money and are still in business because of that money. And now somebody says, give the IRS power to go rip into them. That's not okay."

Since Donald Trump returned to office in January, Kevin O'Leary has been supportive of the right-wing leader and Elon Musk's government budget cuts.

"Keep slashing, keep hacking, while you have a 24-month mandate before the midterms," the investor said during an episode of Laura Coates Live in February. "Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, more, more cutting. Believe me, it's going to work out just great. Everybody should be happy about this. Cut everything."

According to Marco Rubio, the only way for an agreement to be reached to end the war is to have Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin sit down and talk.

"I think that's the only chance we have at peace at this point, given everything we've seen over the last few weeks," the Florida politician stated, while adding that "nothing's going to happen" until the two leaders have a chat.

"There's been talks, there's been negotiations, there's been trips and meetings — but in the end, I think we've reached the conclusion, rightfully so, as the president has, that the only way this is going to happen, if it has a chance to happen, the only way it happens is, if the president directly engages with Vladimir Putin," Rubio noted.

Marco Rubio also went on to call Donald Trump a "lover of peace" and expressed how much the businessman wants the conflict to end.

"This is a person that wants to stop wars and prevent wars and end wars. That's what the president endeavors to do," the diplomat noted. "I still don't understand why some would be critical of the president. They should be happy that the president of the most powerful nation on earth is a peacemaker who seeks to prevent wars, seeks to end wars and seeks to stop existing wars. While talking to the press aboard Air Force One on Thursday, May 15, Donald Trump himself confirmed he and Vladimir Putin were overdue for a conversation before his Russian counterpart faces Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Nothing is going to happen until Putin and I get together," The Apprentice alum explained. "He wasn't going if I wasn't there. I don't believe anything's going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I get together. But we're going to have to get it solved cause too many people are dying."

As the war rages on, Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly visited Turkey to speak with Vladimir Putin. However, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Putin ditched the meeting.

"After we understood the level of the Russian delegation, we saw that they unfortunately are very unserious about real negotiations," Zelensky explained in an interview following the trip.

Elon Musk Sued for Not Paying Up

Elon Musk may be in some legal hot water.

According to court documents, the billionaire and his organization America PAC is being accused of backtracking on a promise to pay swing-state voters who signed a petition supporting the First and Second amendments.

Per the legal papers, Elon Musk vowed to pay $47 to registered voters who signed the petition in seven battleground states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Later, the investor upped the payments to $100 per person.

However, three individuals who allegedly signed the document in Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania, are claiming they never got their money.

"Plaintiffs are in communication with numerous others who referred voters to sign the America PAC petition, who are likewise frustrated that they did not receive full payments for their referrals," the court documents claim of the lawsuit against Elon Musk.

Plaintiff Steve Reid reportedly canvased in both Georgia and Michigan and never got compensation. "Despite multiple attempts to receive payment, Plaintiff Steven Reid was also not paid the full promised amounts for these referrals. He estimates that he has not been paid at least several thousand dollars he is owed for his referrals," they claimed.

In response to the allegations, Elon Musk's organization released a statement. "America PAC is committed to paying for every legitimate petition signature, which is evidenced by the fact that we have paid tens of millions of dollars to canvassers for their hard work in support of our mission," America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo said.

The group also emphasized their commitment to "rooting out fraud" and noted how they have "the right to withhold payments to fraudsters."

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a history of spreading misinformation about vaccines, and his conspiracy theories have been a cause for concern for many Democrats.

"If you had a child, would you vaccinate that child for measles?" Rep. Mark Pocan asked Kennedy during a House Appropriations Committee hearing on Wednesday, May 14.

"For measles? Um … probably for measles," Kennedy answered, before asserting that his personal beliefs on vaccines are "irrelevant."

Robert F. Kennedy went on to say that in spite of the influence he wields, people shouldn't necessarily heed his advice.

"I don't want to seem like I'm being evasive, but I don't think people should be taking advice — medical advice — from me," he said.

"For me to answer that question directly, it will seem like I'm giving advice to other people, and I don't want to be doing that," the "Make America Healthy Again" advocate stressed.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is one of the various federal agencies that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. oversees, and the CDC does give advice.

"What we're going to try to do is to lay out the pros and cons, the risks and benefits, accurately, as we understand them with reputable studies," the Health and Human Services Secretary clarified.

As the anti-vaccine movement becomes more popular, the U.S. has seen an increase in measles cases.

"I don't want to give advice," Robert F. Kennedy told the House Appropriations Committee, but he later admitted the measles vaccine is "the most effective way" to prevent the spread of the disease.

Kristi Noem appeared before the House Homeland Security Committee to discuss her agency's 2026 budget. The department has been accused of not adhering to its congressional budget.

"Whatever got you here, Secretary Noem, I'm glad you found time among your many photo ops and costume changes to testify about why President [Donald] Trump is seeking more taxpayer dollars, and what [you] plan to do with that money if you get it," Bennie Thompson told her, reading aloud from a sheet of paper.

X users had mixed reactions to seeing Bennie Thompson point out Kristi Noem's use of makeup and professional photographers to capture deportations, prison tours and more.

"This is so good…calling out Kosplay Kristie," one X user wrote.

"This is exactly how to treat Republicans," a second X user chimed in. "Every single day. Every chance you get. Humiliate the s*** out of them."

"He speaks the truth, all she does is play dress up and doesn't answer any questions straight up always deflects from them," another said.

While critics were excited to see Kristi Noem be called out for her behavior, fans took issue with Bennie Thompson's tone.

"Why is he condescending to her? Our border is the most secure it has been in history," one X user wrote. "She leads the agency responsible for that."

"It might have been amusing if he didn't have to read it [from a paper]," another X user said.

A month ago, television personality Megyn Kelly admitted she didn't approve of Kristi Noem's social media activity.

"Just stop trying to glamorize the mission and put yourself in the middle of it as you cosplay ICE agent, which you're not," Kelly said on an episode of her "The Megyn Kelly Show" podcast.

"I can't stand these photo ops, you guys. I think they diminish ICE, they diminish DHS, CPB," the Fox News alum added. "She's not an agent! She is an administrative policy person appointed by Trump because she was very loyal to him."

Megyn Kelly stressed how Kristie Noem's presence isn't necessarily helping ICE agents.

"Stop with the glam. I mean, she looks like I look right now, but she's out in the field with her gun, being like, 'We're gonna go kick some a**,'" Kelly said. "No one wants you there."

"[Donald Trump is] saying that Qataris came to him and said, 'If we can help you, let us.' I mean, that's exactly what people are afraid of because it means, what are [they] getting in return?" White House Correspondent Kristen Holmes said on CNN's Inside Politics on Wednesday, May 14.

"What are they going to get in return, which he seems to fundamentally not either want to answer or not really understand," she continued. "The level that people are concerned about this as a national security threat when he continues to just say, 'Well, it's a free gift.'"

MAGA influencer Laura Loomer was "disappointed" in Donald Trump for accepting the plane, and Republican Rand Paul urged the president not to accept the jumbo jet.
"You can hear these Republicans say over and over again, 'There's no such thing as a free gift,'" Kristen Holmes said. "I mean, that's been the Republican argument as well."

National security has been a concern throughout Donald Trump's second term.

CNN's Manu Raju chimed in to say he talked to Republican John Thune "about national security concerns" the previous day: "He said, 'Well, we're going to have to vet this,' and he called it a 'hypothetical situation,'" Raju recalled. "And then I asked Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, about it yesterday. He said, 'Well, Trump, of course, shares the same national security concerns that we do, and he'll make sure this is a secure exchange.'"

Hans Nichols noted that the aircraft will probably be heavily inspected for recording devices.

"Well, look, stripping down the plane and making sure there are any hidden microphones on there, I, as someone who's never retrofitted a 747, that doesn't seem like the biggest challenge here," he said.

"To me, the bigger question is, will [John] Thune and [Mike] Johnson follow through and do real oversight?" Hans Nichols asked the panelists. "Ted Cruz, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, does he look into this?"

"I'm guessing no," Nia-Malika Henderson replied.

While Republicans have publicly commented on Donald Trump using the plane, Hans Nichols predicted the party won't take significant action against the president.

"I think we sort of know, but that's really where, if this story advances beyond sort of liberal outrage and some sort of Republican concerns, that's really what will happen," Nichols stated. "It'll happen where you and I spend most of our days in Congress."

"And I'm not convinced that we're going to have big hearings looking into this," he noted. "As long as Republicans, here's my caveat, as long as Republicans are in charge, that's my parachute."

Nia-Malika Henderson noted that Donald Trump potentially using the plane as Air Force One weakens the United States' image.

"It also sort of makes Donald Trump look like the beta, right? And the country," Henderson said. "We're going across the world because we're too poor to get a plane from somebody else."

"I mean, this is Trump, who's like, 'We're a superpower,' and yet we're taking handouts from Qatar and authoritarian nations," she continued.

Nia-Malika Henderson continued to point out the bad options of using a gifted Qatari plane as Air Force One: "The optics of it is really, I think, contradicting what [Donald] Trump's sort of idea of America is and himself as, like, the great salesman in bringing America back to greatness," she said.

"Well, if our greatness is relying on another country's largesse, it seems to be a contradiction," she noted.

Hans Nichols reminded the panelists that Donald Trump stands by his decision.

"He's just gonna say he's getting a good deal, right? He's already said that, right?" Nichols reminded the group.

"I think he'd say the opposite: That he's getting the deal because he's the alpha," Kristen Holmes replied.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 14, three representatives were caught sleeping during a long-running Tax-Writing Ways and Means Committee meeting in which they put together Donald Trump's "big, beautiful" agenda bill and made cuts to Medicaid.

In clips from C-Span, Representatives Blake Moore (R-Utah), Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) were all seen napping during the gathering.

"It's 4:57am ET. There's another vote during the House Ways and Means markup and they have to wake Rep. Blake Moore," one X user commented on the video.

People on social media were outraged by the display from their representatives.

"TERM LIMITS! Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) OUT COLD asleep while on the job. Do any of you get to sleep while at the office? These people have ZERO CARE for how Americans perceive Congress," Florida Voice News' Eric Daugherty wrote on X.

"Term limits, gaining more and more traction," a second X user chimed in.

"Politicians that still can't do their jobs while only having a 4-day week should be primaried," another added.

Although Debbie Dingell may have needed some extra sleep, she made sure to drive her point home to her fellow policy makers during their meeting.

"Been up for 31 hours straight fighting Republicans trying to gut Medicaid. Closed my eyes to think about an America where everyone has access to quality, affordable health care," she wrote on X in response to people criticizing her for falling asleep.

During the hours-long meeting, Democrats and Republicans fought over Donald Trump's budget package which would reportedly cut federal spending to the most vulnerable citizens.

According to Reuters, the Republican leader's bill would add trillions of dollars to the nation's debt as the plan requests $4 trillion in additional lending.

Newsom Backtracks on Illegal Immigrant Health Care

Gavin Newsom seems to be flip-flopping on government-paid healthcare for immigrants.

On Wednesday, May 14, the Governor of California's office blamed the higher-than-expected costs for his plan to stop enrolling low-income people in the state's Medi-Cal program.

Gavin Newsom's office stated their plan is to halt enrollment of lower earning immigrants in the program from 2026 and start charging payment to those already enrolled a monthly premium the following year.

"The state must take difficult but necessary steps to ensure fiscal stability and preserve the long-term viability of Medi-Cal for all Californians," a representative said in a statement.

Newsom and his staff claimed the program would end up costing $2.7 billion more than expected.

In March, Gavin Newsom vowed to not roll back health benefits for illegal migrants despite Donald Trump's crackdown on California's immigration policies.

Despite the left-wing politician pulling back on his promise, he clarified that the program won't completely dissolve. "It was not to kick people off and not to roll back the expansion, but to level set on what we can do and what we can't do," Newsom said to reporters on Wednesday, May 14. "We're just capping it, particularly for those without documentation."

Elsewhere in Gavin Newsom's proposal, adults 19 and older with "unsatisfactory immigration status" will be charged a $100 monthly premium.

According to the Democrat's office, the individuals they are charging are "people whose immigration status makes them ineligible for federally funded Medicaid, including people with lawful status and the undocumented."

Per fact sheets from Newsom's office, the reason for this action is to take "corrective action" due to the fall out of Donald Trump's "pendulum swings on tariffs."

Despite the setback, Gavin Newsom promised that California would still do their best to take care of their immigrant population amid Donald Trump's strict policies.

"No state has done more than the state of California, no state will continue to do more than the state of California by a long shot. And that's a point of pride," he told the press.

On the Tuesday, May 13, episode of The Mark Levin Show, Fox News host Mark Levin slammed his fellow conservative journalist after Carlson accused him of calling Donald Trump's administration "anti-Semitic" over labeling someone a "neocon."

Mark Levin didn't hold anything back when addressing comments Tucker Carlson made on his show about his interpretation of remarks Levin made about Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

"So, you have Mark Levin calling Steve Witkoff an anti-Semite. We've reached peak crazy, I mean, I think Witkoff is Jewish, right?" Carlson said to Levin on The Tucker Carlson Network.

Levin fired back on his own platform, warning Carlson, "Don't [mess] with me, you little b******. So shmuck picks a fight with me, doesn't call me."

"You see, all the neocons are gone. So why do they keep using the word neoconservative? Notice they don't use hawk, interventionist. Neocon! Why do they keep saying neocon? Because many of the neoconservatives were old time, left-wing, Democrat Jews," he argued. "Chatsworth (Rush Limbaugh's nickname for Carlson) knows it. I know it, and many of the people that use that phrase either don't know what they're talking about, but in the magazines and on the internet, they know it. So they're not going to say the Jews are dragging us into a war, they'll say Israel is, [Benjamin] Netanyahu is. They're not going to say the Jews this and the Jews [that], so they use neocon. Chatsworth is smart enough to know what he's doing. He may have transitioned into what he's become today, but he knows what he's doing. I know what he's doing."

Despite Mark Levin's deep grievances with Tucker Carlson for not understanding his point of view, he emphasized how he wished his fellow pundit would have tried to sort it out between the two of them instead of making a public remark.

"Now he's free to do what he wants. I believe in free speech. Go ahead, buy a subscription. Do whatever you want, it's perfectly fine by me. But don't [mess] with me, you little b******, by twisting my words," Levin ranted. "You should have picked up the phone because I would have cleared things up for you. You got sucked in by Mediaite and others. Oh, I'll leave it here for now. I'll leave it here, for now. We shall see."

The root of Mark Levin and Tucker Carlson's issues come from Steve Witkoff's comments made during a recent Breitbart interview.

"The neocon element believes that war is the only way to solve things," the member of Donald Trump's administration claimed. "The president believes that his force of personality, the way he is going to respond to certain situations, can bend people to do things in a better way in the interests of the United States government."

Following Steve Witkoff's interview, Mark Levin responded to the divisive remarks, claiming the politician "talks like the fifth column isolationists."

"In the meantime, rather than sloganeering against patriotic Americans who love our country, use your name, calling for the terrorist regime that has murdered Americans, tried to assassinate our president, chants death to America and has lied its way toward a nuclear bomb," Levin wrote on X on May 9.

"By the way, neocon is a pejorative for Jew. Unbelievable," he added.

According to reports, the U.S. Coast Guard made a last-minute change to its 2025 budget to earmark $50 million for Kristi Noem's new plane.
Illinois Rep. Lauren Underwood flagged the change during the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security meeting on Wednesday, May 14: "I was horrified last Friday when we received a last-minute addition to your spend plan for Fiscal '25 — a new $50 million Gulfstream V for Secretary Noem's personal travel coming from the Coast Guard budget," she said, directing her "horror" at Coast Guard Chief Admiral Kevin Lunday.
"She already has a Gulfstream V, by the way. This is a new one," the liberal politician added.

Coast Guard Chief Admiral Kevin Lundy refused to say whether the request for a new Gulfstream for Kristi Noem came directly from the Department of Homeland Security or from somewhere else in the Trump administration.
"Meeting the needs of our Coast Guard men and women that are doing frontline operations is my top operational priority, and it's a top operational priority of the secretary," he said.
"She's been clear with that to me, and I know she testified to that effect before the subcommittee last week," he added.

Coast Guard Chief Admiral Kevin Lundy went on to argue that a new Gulfstream for Kristi Noem is a necessity because of the two military long-range command and control aircraft the Coast Guard operates, one is "approaching obsolescence and the end of its service life."
"[It] provides a crucial service to Coast Guard leaders and to Secretary Noem," he said. "This aircraft is necessary to provide … secure, reliable, on-demand communications and movement to go forward, visit our operating forces conducting the missions, and then come back here to Washington to make sure we can work together to get them what they need."

Illinois Rep. Lauren Underwood noted that Coast Guard Chief Admiral Kevin Lundy didn't "answer the question about whether he was directed to purchase this new Gulfstream V."
She added of the matter on X, "We should be investing in our national security and improving the lives of our Coasties – not wasting taxpayer dollars on luxury travel and political stunts."

Meanwhile, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin released a statement agreeing with Coast Guard Chief Admiral Kevin Lundy that one of the Coast Guard's two Gulfstreams is more than 20 years old and "well beyond operational usage hours for a corporate aircraft."
"This is a matter of safety," she claimed. "Much like the Coast Guard's ships that are well beyond their service life and safe operational usage, the Coast Guard's aircraft are too. This administration is taking action to restore our Nation's finest maritime Armed Service to a capable fighting force."
The debate over a new jet for Kristi Noem couldn't come at a worse time as politicians on both side of the aisle have taken issue with Donald Trump's new private jet from Qatar.

On Wednesday, May 14, Ben Cohen was arrested on Capitol Hill after claiming Donald Trump's Health and Human Services Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was "killing" people with his beliefs.

According to United States Capitol Police, Ben Cohen was one of seven people arrested after attending and disrupting a Senate hearing with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

During the gathering, the co-founder of the famous company — who was arrested on charges of obstruction — arose from his seat and, along with a group of others, yelled, "RFK kills people with hate!"
They were quickly escorted out of the hearing by officers.

Senator Bill Cassidy — the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions — addressed the disturbance and condemned the people trying to make a political statement.

"Members of the audience are reminded disruptions will not be permitted while the committee conducts its business. Capitol Police are asked to remove the individuals from the hearing room," he stated. "That was a made-for-C-SPAN moment."

This is far from the first time Ben Cohen has made his views on right-wing politics known. The entrepreneur arrested in 2023 for blocking the entrance to the Department of Justice while protesting the detainment of Julian Assange.

Since Cohen launched the company with Jerry Greenfield in 1978, the two have been outspoken about their liberal views.  In 2021, they stopped selling their products to Israelis in the West Bank — after they claimed it was "Occupied Palestinian Territory."

During back-to-back congressional hearings on Wednesday, May 14, tension was evident between Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Democratic politicians over his controversial health stances.

"You told the public that the vaccine wanes very quickly," Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said to the environmental attorney. "You went on the Dr. Phil Show and said that the measles vaccine was never fully tested for safety. You said there's fetal debris in the measles vaccine."

"I'm going to tell the truth about everything we know and we don't know about vaccines," Kennedy Jr. replied. "I am not going to just tell people everything is safe and effective if I know that there are issues. I need to respect people's intelligence."

Fellow Republican Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene

Marjorie Taylor Greene recently criticized New York Congressman Mike Lawler for going against the Republican Party and taking a stance against Donald Trump's state and local tax (SALT) bill.
However, Lawler quickly took a stance against the vocal MAGA advocate.

"Mike Lawler usually isn't the guy in the conference with the best ideas, after all we lost a Republican held seat to a Democrat the last time Republicans voted for one of his 'great' strategy," Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote in an X post on Wednesday, May 14.
"Now Mike Lawler is a NO on Trump's big beautiful bill because he won't accept a SALT cap increase from $10K to $30K per year," she added.

Mike Lawler previously said Donald Trump's tax plan would be a "hard no" for him if the tax cap isn't further discussed or changed.
"And the deduction applies to those who make under $400,000 per year," Marjorie Taylor Greene said.
"While yes taxes in Democrat controlled New York are ridiculous, but if a $30,000 State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction isn't good enough for those making under $400,000 then you need to either vote Republican in NY or you need to move," she continued, as Lawler represents New York's 17th congressional district.

Marjorie Taylor Greene later claimed Mike Lawler's constituents would greatly benefit from Donald Trump's proposed tax plan.
"A $2 million dollar house in Lawler's district is going to have property taxes around $30,000+ per year, so the $30,000 SALT cap would allow them to deduct their entire property taxes off their federal taxes if they make under $400,000 per year," Grenne exclaimed.
"With the median income of $118,882 in Lawler's district, the SALT cap of $30,000 should be an easy YES for Mike Lawler," she continued. "The rest of America doesn't want to and shouldn't have to make up the difference!"

Marjorie Taylor Greene later threw jabs at Mike Lawler's future in Congress, as she hinted at the politician being a moderate.
"And Mike Lawler has a toss-up seat. What's the point in Republicans fighting to protect and keep re-electing 'Republicans' if they constantly undermine the agenda America voted for?" the Georgia native asked.

While Marjorie Taylor Greene was vocal about her disappointment in Mike Lawler, the congressman quickly fired back.
"Shockingly, the 'Jewish Space Laser' lady once again doesn't have a clue what she is talking about," Lawler said, in reference to a 2018 scandal where Greene was accused of pushing an antisemitic conspiracy theory about a California wildfire, but she adamantly denied using the term.
"By the way, the reason you enjoy a gavel is because Republicans like me have won our seats. Good luck being in the Majority if we don't," he concluded.

Before winning the 2024 election, Donald Trump campaigned on re-implementing the SALT tax break — which he had during his first administration.
"WHAT THE H*** DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? VOTE FOR TRUMP! I will turn it around, get SALT back, lower your Taxes, and so much more. I'll work with the Democrat Governor and Mayor, and make sure the funding is there to bring New York State back to levels it hasn't seen for 50 years," Trump wrote in September of 2024. "People are fleeing, maybe we'll get them to 'flee back.'"

Trump Nods Off During Foreign Policy Briefing

Donald Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, May 13, and headed straight to a briefing with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during which he apparently fell asleep.

During the meeting, Trump and the crown prince chatted about several agreements between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia focused on militaries, economies and cultural institutions, according to the Associated Press.

Podcaster Brian Allen wrote about Donald Trump's nod-off on X on Tuesday, May 13.

"In a surreal and frankly humiliating moment, Donald Trump just fell asleep during his own briefing in Saudi Arabia," he wrote.

"This isn't jet lag — it's a walking security risk with a nap schedule," he added. "The man who calls himself 'sharp as ever' couldn't even stay conscious."

X users continued to discuss Donald Trump's blunder.

"During one of his 'nap times' he is bound to fall off the chair and I am so here for that moment," one X wrote.

"Trump's nap during a crucial Saudi briefing shows a lack of focus on vital international matters, undermining U.S. credibility and leadership at a time when strong diplomacy is essential," another X user said.

Many X users argued over whether Donald Trump's "nap" was due to jet lag — Riyadh is seven hours ahead of Washington, D.C. — or the president's age. (He's 78.) However, some MAGA supporters pointed out that the Republican's recent physical claimed he is in good health.

"The man will run circles around you in literally anything, every time," one X user said.

During the 2024 election, Donald Trump threw jabs at Joe Biden's cognitive well-being. He later celebrated getting "every answer right" during his most recent cognitive exam.

"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State," the health report read.

Mark Levin took to X to publicly slam Donald Trump's tour of the Middle East, though he stopped short of directly criticizing the president.

"Saudi Arabia played a significant role on the 9/11 slaughter of our people. I didn't hear their Crown Prince [Mohammed bin Salman] even apologize once yesterday for what they did to us. And I know the 9/11 families are reeling from this," he wrote.

"And Qatar protected the leader of the 9/11 attack [Khalid Sheikh Mohammed] from the FBI, before he was able to launch his war on America that killed our people," he alleged.

Mark Levin went on to say that the primary debate surrounding the $400 million private jet Qatar recently gifted Donald Trump is irrelevant.

"The debate about whether the plane is a legal gift is beside the point. Qatar is a terrorist regime that has murdered Americans," he wrote on X.

"I cannot let bygones be bygones and those Americans who suffered the consequences of what these monarchies did cannot either. I can't stop thinking about all the innocent people who went to work that day, and were on those planes, and all the firefighters and police officers who died horrible deaths," Mark Levin continued on X.

He then shifted gears, sharing his concerns over Iran: "As for Iran, if they get a nuclear weapon that's on our generation. And our country will suffer the horrible consequences. These are terrorists. They don't think like us and they don't love life like us. We must have the guts and wisdom to protect ourselves," he wrote.

Despite his criticism of the trip as a whole, Mark Levin praised Donald Trump for his deal-making in Saudi Arabia: "We don't know the details but if they're great deals for we, the people, that's wonderful. I truly believe the President is THE best at making GREAT deals," he wrote.

While visiting Saudi Arabia on May 13, the former reality star signed the largest defense sales agreement in history. The deal has an estimated value of $142 billion but also encompasses bilateral deals worth $600 billion in investments.

Trump also lifted sanctions on Syria and met with the country's interim president: former Al-Qaeda leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.
