As the world mourns "Top Gun" star Val Kilmer — who died at 65 on April 1, 2025 — we're taking a look back at the all-time greatest movies about pilots. Keep reading to see if your personal fave made the list…
"Top Gun" might be the most famous film about the rush of flying, and it's easy to understand why: It has the perfect combination of romance, action, drama and sweaty volleyball-playing heartthrobs. The Tom Cruise-led blockbuster — which saw the action star going toe-to-toe with Val Kilmer as rival pilot Iceman — was the highest grossing film of 1986 and gave us one of the movie star's signature roles. The story follows a fighter pilot attending an elite Naval Fighter Weapons School who's fighting to be the best in his class while also fighting for the heart of his instructor. It gave us one of the most famous romances in film history and won an Academy Award for best song (for "Take My Breath Away"). In 2015, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
It also laid the foundation for one of the most satisfying sequels in recent decades…

The "Top Gun" sequel "Top Gun: Maverick," which grossed nearly $1.5 billion to become the top-earning film of star Tom Cruise's career — was a highlight for theatergoers in 2022. It scored six Oscar nominations including one for best picture (and won for best sound) and earned an impressive 96% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes — and a 99% fresh rating from audiences.

It's shocking the life of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart has only been brought to the big screen once considering that she was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. The moment finally came in 2009 with "Amelia" starring Hilary Swank as the title character, as well as Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor. Most of the film is told in flashbacks before ending with the aviator's mysterious disappearance in 1937. Sadly, despite Amelia being a historical icon, the big screen adaptation of her life didn't win over reviewers or audiences, with most critics decrying the film's inconsistencies and lack of focus, and box office returns that didn't even match the production costs. Hilary at least earned praise for her performance. The story remains one of the most important in aviation history.
The real life story took a turn in January 2024 after Deep Sea Vision, a South Carolina-based ocean exploration team, claimed it might have found Amelia's Lockheed 10-E Electra plane on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. On Jan. 27, the company shared a sonar image to Instagram that appears to be a plane on the bottom of the ocean.

"The Aviator" is a biopic that depicts the life of Howard Hughes, a business magnate, aviation pioneer and director of the 1930 war epic "Hell's Angels." The drama takes an intense turn after he completes building the infamous giant aircraft known as the "Spruce Goose," shifting its focus to the mogul's increasingly unstable mental health due to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, and never becomes any less compelling. The film, which was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Leonardo DiCaprio, featured a winning ensemble that included Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, John C. Reilly, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Gwen Stefani, Willem Dafoe and Alan Alda. It received a glowing reception when it hit theaters in 2004, going on to compete for 11 Academy Awards. It won five including a first Oscar for Cate. It also raked in more than $213 million in ticket sales, becoming one of Martin's top five highest grossing films at the time.

One of the most action-packed flight films is also one of the most successful sci-fi flicks ever. "Independence Day" follows Will Smith as a Marine pilot who must take down a fleet of airborne extraterrestrial beings who've unleashed havoc on Earth on the Fourth of July. The actioner, which features an all-star ensemble that also includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Harry Connick Jr. and Vivica A. Fox, became the highest grossing film of 1996. The epic saga was also the second biggest moneymaker in film history at the time and earned an Academy Award for best visual effects. It solidified Will's career as a movie star, became a significant turning point in the history of the Hollywood blockbuster and changed the game of what a disaster film could look like (it also inspired an array of similar films in the late '90s). Too bad its 2016 sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence," failed to recapture the same magic of the original.

The story of Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in 2009 sounded like a movie the moment it happened. The Hudson River landing, in which all 155 passengers and crew members survived, and the subsequent publicity and investigation all sounded too good to be true and captured nonstop media coverage, so it was only a matter of time before it received the Hollywood treatment. And boy, did it attract some big names: Clint Eastwood directed and Tom Hanks starred. The film received acclaim upon its 2016 release, earning an Oscar nomination for best sound editing and becoming one of the filmmaker's biggest box office hits, grossing about $240 million worldwide.

"The Rocketeer" gave aviation a much-needed superhero spin. The 1991 Disney film is set in 1938 and tells the story of Cliff Secord (played by Billy Campbell), a stunt pilot who stumbles upon a hidden rocket-powered jet pack that he uses to fly without the need of an aircraft. His machinery soon attracts the attention of Howard Hughes and the FBI, who are hunting for the missing jet pack, as well as the Nazi operatives who stole it from Howard. The film — which was a breakout project for a young Jennifer Connelly, who co-starred — is based on the comic book character of the same name received a warm reception from critics but a frosty one from audiences. As a result, planned sequels were halted until an animated series based on the actioner landed on Disney Junior in 2019. It's developed a cult following since its initial release, with many praising the action sequences and pulp-y storytelling.

Not only is it the funniest story about traveling the skies — "Airplane!" is oft-considered one of the greatest comedies in film history. The 1980 classic is a parody of the disaster film genre that was incredibly popular at the time. It became known for its use of surreal humor and its fast-paced slapstick comedy, including visual and verbal puns, gags and obscure humor. For many fans, it's basically a nonstop joke factory masquerading as a film. It finds former pilot Ted Striker overcoming his pathological fear of flying to safely land a commercial flight with the help of an inflatable pilot dummy and his flight attendant ex-girlfriend. It raked in more than $170 million when it hit theaters, earned a best picture nod at the Golden Globe Awards and launched a poorly received 1982 sequel. In 2010, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

"Hot Shots!" is another aviation comedy from one of the writers and directors of "Airplane!" who this time developed a parody of "Top Gun." It follows Charlie Sheen as he plays a former U.S. Navy pilot who has to overcome the trauma of his father's plane accident in order to come out of retirement and complete a classified mission. It was a massive success, totaling over $180 million in box office gross and winning over critics for its clever takes on films "9½ Weeks," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "Dances with Wolves," "Rocky," "Superman" and "Gone with the Wind." It inspired a hit 1993 sequel and marked the first collaboration between Charlie and his eventual "Two and a Half Men" co-star Jon Cryer.

"Pearl Harbor" was one of the most anticipated films of 2001. The big-budget epic featured a massive cast that included Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Josh Hartnett, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight and Alec Baldwin. Coming from blockbuster titans Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer, the heavily fictionalized version of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, received a lot of criticism for focusing on a love story set amid the attack and ensuing battle. Reviews aside, no one could resist the romantic war drama that brought in nearly $450 million in ticket sales. Fans of heartthrobs Ben and Josh got their fix, and the incredible action sequences — like the 40-minute battle scene — were so beautifully directed, they have to be seen to be believed. It's no surprise the film received a handful of technical Oscar nominations and won the trophy for best sound editing.

In "Captain Marvel," the titular hero is better known for her supernatural abilities, including superhuman strength, stamina, durability, agility and, most importantly, flying at great speeds well beyond the sound barrier. However, before becoming an all-powerful superhero, Captain Marvel got her start as U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Carol Danvers. And while the film is more focused on the intergalactic battle between the Kree Empire and the Skrulls, there's no denying how cool it is to have a female-fronted "Top Gun" with a Marvel twist, especially one chock-full of '90s nostalgia. The 2019 release grossed more than $1.1 billion at the box office, making it the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark. A sequel was released in 2023.

Directed by "Independence Day" creator Roland Emmerich, 2019's "Midway" depicts the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The event saw the U.S. Navy defeat an attacking Imperial Japanese Navy fleet that rendered their aircraft carriers irreparable. Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Darren Criss, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson helped bring the incredible tale to the big screen. It was a passion project for Roland, who failed to get a major studio to distribute it. He still managed to find funding for the movie's $100 million budget, making it the most expensive independent film of all time. It received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its historical accuracy — and it still grossed $125 million worldwide.

One of the few historical aviation dramas to cover pilots of color is 2012's "Red Tails." It tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) servicemen during World War II. While the film doesn't feature real characters, it is based on actual individuals. Featuring a star-packed cast that includes Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, Ne-Yo, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan, Method Man and Bryan Cranston, it also featured production assistance from "Star Wars" creator George Lucas as it was a passion project for the legendary filmmaker. The movie delivered a mixed bag in reviews and ticket sales, but the significance of the storytelling still earned notoriety. It also won the trophy for outstanding motion picture at the NAACP Image Awards.

One of the earliest benchmarks for aviation films came with 1927's "Wings." The silent movie is a World War I-set romance starring Clara Bow, Charles Rogers and Richard Arlen. It also included a breakthrough part for screen legend Gary Cooper. It follows two men who join the military and take to the skies in one of the war's climactic air battles, while the woman they both love waits frantically for them both to return safely. It received immense acclaim upon release for its technical prowess and realism, setting the then-standard for realistic air-combat sequences. "Wings" nabbed an assortment of nominations at the very first Academy Awards in 1929 and went onto to win the first ever best picture Oscar. In 1997, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant," and the Academy Film Archive preserved it in 2002.

Speaking of all-star casts… 2004's "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" had just that with marquee names like Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. It tells the story of pilot Sky Captain, who uses his private air force to fight off gigantic robots attacking New York City while also investigating their origin with his reporter ex-girlfriend. The sci-fi action flick garnered major attention for its revolutionary aesthetics, which took 100 digital artists, modelers, animators and compositors to create its multi-layered 2D and 3D backgrounds. It was one of the first major movies to be shot entirely on a "digital backlot," combining actors with computer-generated surroundings. It earned great reviews but was a major flop at the box office, only grossing $58 million on a $70 million budget. However, in the years since its release, it has become a cult classic.

Charles Lindbergh is one of the best known figures in aeronautical history, and his incredible life was brought to the big screen in 1957's "The Spirit of St. Louis." It featured legendary actor Jimmy Stewart as the aviation pioneer and largely focused on Lindbergh's history-making transatlantic flight in the plane dubbed the "Spirit of St. Louis." Charles's 1927 endeavor was the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean and was destined to make for an exciting film. It was commended for its special effects (it earned an Oscar nod in the best effects category), as well as for Jimmy's lead performances. It wasn't, however, as big of a hit with audiences.

Tom Cruise returned to the sky in 2017's "American Made." This time, he traded in the romance and aviation heroics for a far more sordid tale. The action-comedy was inspired by the life of Barry Seal, a former commercial airline pilot for TWA who flew missions for the CIA and became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel in the 1980s. Then, in order to avoid jail time after being convicted on smuggling charges, he became an informant for the DEA and testified in several major drug trials. It provided a rare opportunity for Tom to play an anti-hero while also giving him a chance to brush up on his piloting skills. The dark move paid off as the film garnered positive reviews and became another line on his long list of $100 million-grossing films.

"Flight" took the risky move of making its protagonist pilot an anti-hero, someone who is respected on the job but is actually a liability both at work and in their personal life. The Denzel Washington-led drama follows William "Whip" Whitaker Sr., an alcoholic airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mechanical failure, saving nearly everyone on board. Immediately following the crash, he's hailed as a hero, but an investigation soon leads to questions that put the captain in a different light. The fascinating tale, loosely based on the 2000 plane crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261, received support from critics and audiences alike, grossing over $160 million in ticket sales and earning two Oscar nominations, including a best actor nod for Denzel. The 2012 flick also made travelers take a second look at the person driving the plane when getting on board, but it's important to remember it's a work of fiction.

"Twelve O'Clock High" is another historical war film that helped set the standard of what aviation battle scenes would look like. The 1949 American feature is about air crews in the U.S. Army's Eighth Air Force who flew daylight bombing missions against Nazi Germany and occupied France during the early days of American involvement in World War II. Led by star Gregory Peck, the movie was nominated for four Oscars (including best picture) and won two. It became required viewing at all the U.S. service academies, college and university Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachments, Air Force Officer Training School, the U.S. Navy's former Aviation Officer Candidate School and the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School. The actioner even became a television series in 1964 that ran for three seasons. In 1998, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

In 2005's "Stealth," Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx played three top fighter pilots who must join together on a project to develop an automated robotic stealth aircraft. The military film gave the genre a science-fiction twist with the help of "The Fast and the Furious" director Rob Cohen. While it received a chilly response from critics and failed to set the box office alight, the fun flick is the perfect answer for anyone who wants to fill their "Top Gun" fix with a hint of "2001: A Space Odyssey." The project may not be a fan favorite from Jessica or Jamie's filmographies, but it did help continue their reputation as viable A-list stars.

The first aviation comedy of note came in the form of "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" in 1965. The period film hilariously depicts the craze of early aviation in 1910, following a fictional English press magnate who offers a significant cash prize to the winner of the Daily Post air race from London to Paris, in an effort to prove that Britain is No. 1 in the air. The slapstick affair received both an Oscar nomination for its screenplay as well as multiple Golden Globe Award noms (including for best picture). It became an immediate box office hit, with audience reaction then and now being relatively universal in assessing it as one of the classic aviation films.

"Catch Me If You Can" is about a con man posing as an aviator instead of an actual pilot, but considering he leads everyone in the film to believe he can fly a plane, there's no reason the audience can't join in on the fun. The 2002 biopic is based on the life of Frank Abagnale, who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned people out of millions by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor and a Louisiana prosecutor. Leonardo DiCaprio gives another winning turn as Frank, while Tom Hanks plays the FBI agent hot on his trail. Steven Spielberg directed the immensely entertaining dramedy, which earned more than $350 million at the box office and nabbed two Oscar nominations (best supporting actor for Christopher Walken and best original score for John Williams). The film is also known for its fantastic supporting players including Christopher, Martin Sheen, Amy Adams, James Brolin and Jennifer Garner. By the end, you may believe you can charm your way into flying a plane too.

While "Wonder Woman" isn't actually about a pilot, the male lead in the film is one. Chris Pine plays American pilot and spy Steve Trevor, who crash-lands on the titular superhero/Amazon princess's island and has to help her put a stop to both Ares, the Greek god of war, as well as World War I. Any fan of the film will tell you that Chris's scene-stealing performance makes Steve nearly as instrumental to the story's success as the titular heroine. Just as important are his world-saving airborne heroics. The film received glowing reviews and earned more $821 million worldwide. It came as no surprise when Wonder Woman and her aviator love interest returned for a sequel in 2020.

National Security Adviser's Gmail Use Questioned

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz may have made another slip-up on the job.
On Tuesday, April 1, the White House National Security Council indicated that the member of Donald Trump's administration used his Gmail account for work-related correspondence and meetings. However, they clarified that he never used it when dealing with classified material.

"Let me reiterate, NSA Waltz received emails and calendar invites from legacy contacts on his personal email and cc'd government accounts for anything since January 20th to ensure compliance with records retention," White House NSC spokesman Brian Hughes told Fox News of Mike Waltz's online activity.

"He has never sent classified material over his personal email account or any unsecured platform," the representative emphasized.

The response from the government came after The Washington Post alleged Mike Waltz was conducting extremely confidential work over the unsecured website.
The report claimed there were "highly technical conversations with colleagues at other government agencies involving sensitive military positions and powerful weapons systems relating to an ongoing conflict" through his Gmail account.

Despite the rumors of alleged mishandling, Brian Hughes claimed the news outlet "refused to share any part of the document reported." Therefore, there was nothing nefarious about the emails.
"Any correspondence containing classified material must only be sent through secure channels and all NSC staff are informed of this," he added. "It is also made clear to NSC personnel that any non-government correspondence must be captured and retained for record compliance."

The latest headline-making situation came after Mike Waltz took accountability last month for accidentally adding the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a highly classified group chat about military operations in Yemen.
"Well, look, a staffer wasn't responsible," the official told Laura Ingraham during a recent appearance on her Fox News show. "Look, I take full responsibility. I built the group. My job is to make sure everything's coordinated."

Prominent Democrat Speaks for 25 Hours Straight

Within the lengthy speech, Cory Booker slammed Donald Trump and his right-hand man, Elon Musk, for their actions under DOGE and how they've affected Americans.

"The president and Elon Musk need to keep their hands off of [Social Security]," the leftist remarked. "It's not theirs to take, and it's not theirs to break."
"Our institutions are being recklessly and unconstitutionally attacked and even shattered," he continued.
Throughout the address, Booker read letters from suffering citizens, as well as past speeches from right-wing politicians like John McCain.

Cory Booker also condemned Donald Trump for threatening to pull funding from Ivy League schools such as Columbia and Princeton over their lack of action on antisemitism.
"Even with universities that got too woke," he said. "The antidote to that isn't to try and shut down the thought of the left, it's to try to make a fair, more competitive marketplace."

Cory Booker concluded his speech with a warning about the direction America is going under Donald Trump's administration.
"I rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able," he said. "I rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our country is in crisis."
"This is a moral moment. It's not left or right. It's right or wrong. Let's get in good trouble," he added.

Cory Booker's lengthy speech broke a record previously held by Strom Thurmond. The senator from South Carolina spoke in opposition of the Civil Rights Act for 24 hours and 18 minutes back in 1957.
"I was very aware of Strom Thurmond's record since I've gotten to the Senate," Booker told journalists of his milestone, according to the New York Post. "I always felt it was a strange shadow hanging over this institution."

Cory Booker's record-breaking speech earned plenty of backlash.
Republican Senator from Texas John Cornyn wrote about the monologue on X, "Is anyone listening?"
However, GOP pollster Frank Luntz thinks the move may have made an impact: "He struck the kind of tone that grassroots Democrats are looking for. He gave them a reason to fight. He gave them a reason to stand up and say, 'This is my country too,'" the Republican said in an interview with NewsNation.

Oliver Stone, who directed the 1991 thriller JFK, spoke to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets on Tuesday, April 1, to push for a reinvestigation into John F. Kennedy's assassination.
"You wrote a book accusing [Lyndon B. Johnson] of being involved in the killing of President Kennedy. Do these most recent releases confirm or negate your initial charge?" Lauren Boebert asked, referencing recently declassified Kennedy documents.

Before former President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July 2024, Barack Obama knew a shake-up was needed for the Democratic ticket. However, anointing Kamala Harris was not what he had in mind.
"President Obama absolutely did not think that Joe Biden should continue, according to our sources close to President Obama and he also didn't want Kamala Harris to be the replacement for Biden," Jonathan Allen explained during a Tuesday, April 1, interview on Morning Joe.
"He didn't think that she was the best choice for Democrats and he worked really behind the scenes for a long time to try to have a mini-primary, or an open convention, or a mini-primary leading to an open convention," the writer claimed.

According to Jonathan Allen, when Joe Biden publicly endorsed Kamala Harris on July 21, 2024, to become the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama was not eager to throw his support behind her campaign.
"[He] did not have faith in her ability to win the election," the author added. "He was really working against her."

Per the tell-all, Barack Obama was allegedly trying a hard as he could to find other candidates to replace Joe Biden instead of Kamala Harris.
"In one moment, he had set up a phone call with Congressman [James] Clyburn from South Carolina on the day that Joe Biden handed off the baton to Kamala Harris and Obama had set up a call with Clyburn for like 5:30 that afternoon," Jonathan Allen claimed. Five days after Joe Biden promoted Kamala Harris as the frontrunner to be the left-wing nominee, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, announced their support for the former district attorney.

Not only did Barack Obama show his support for Kamala Harris online, but he also made many rally appearances during her campaign where he slammed her opponent, Donald Trump.

"There's a constitutional path. You have to amend the Constitution to do it and that's a high bar," Mike Johnson explained of Donald Trump possibly changing the rules to stay in the White House.
"The president and I have talked about this, joked about it. He's joked about it with me on stage before," member of Congress added. "You know, we take him at his word."

After speculation ran rampant about Donald Trump changing precedent, he addressed the speculation during a Sunday, March 30, interview with NBC's Kristen Welker.
"You know, a lot of people would like me to do that," the businessman said about running another campaign. "But, I mean, I basically tell them, we have a long way to go, you know, it's very early in the administration."
"Have you been presented with any potential plans that would allow you to serve a third term?" the journalist asked.
"There are plans. There are – not plans," Trump replied. "There are, there are methods which you could do it, as you know."

While some may not be taking Donald Trump's alleged ambition seriously, when Kristen Welker directly asked him if plans were in motion, he made clear there are ways to work the system.
"Well, that's one [scenario],"the Republican said about his Vice President J.D. Vance possibly running, winning and allowing his boss to take over. "But there are others too. There are others."
"Sir, I'm hearing – you don't sound like you're joking," Wekler pointed out. "I've heard you joke about this a number of times."
"No, no I'm not joking," Trump stated. "I'm not joking … But, I'm not – it is far too early to think about it."

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon recently claimed he is confident Donald Trump will be sitting in the Oval Office again after the next election.
"I'm a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028, so I've already endorsed President Trump," the former investment banker told Chris Cuomo during a recent interview. "A man like this comes along once every century if we're lucky. We've got him now. He's on fire and I'm a huge supporter. I want to see him again in 2028."

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has had a significant impact on several industries, but one in particular has earned the public's attention: digital image manipulation. It seems as though every prominent photo editing application has introduced some form of AI-powered feature, leading many to scrutinize photos more than ever before.

Of course, any conversation about image alteration is going to bring celebrities back into the spotlight. Celebrities are already known for maintaining a meticulous online presence, and AI would just make that easier. So, with the spread of AI-powered photo editing tools becoming hard to ignore, fans and critics alike are asking: Are celebrities using AI to enhance their looks?

Granting Access to the Perfect Image

It is widely known that celebrities are under significant pressure to maintain their public image. Since the rise of photo editing software, those who choose to edit their appearance have frequently been criticized — AI will only exacerbate the issue. While photo editing software requires a skilled editor to doctor an image, AI lets anyone change their appearance on a whim.

Applications like Luminar Neo and Picsart enable users to subtly enhance their appearance with automatic skin-smoothing, blemish-removal, and teeth-whitening features. Other programs even let users change their body shape entirely, generate different backgrounds, or simply remove objects from the photo. Canva and Pixlr make these features easy to use and eliminate the need for editing knowledge to back them up.

Is Celebrity Photo Editing on the Rise?

Celebrities are prone to avoid admitting to the use of photo editing tools, but there is evidence to suggest that AI-powered photo manipulation is on the rise. AI detection tools may be revealing just how frequently these new image editing tools are being used. In October of 2024, the AI image-generation company Freepik analyzed the Instagram posts of some of the most followed celebrities in the world and found some compelling results.

One case suggested that a celebrity edited more than a quarter of their photos with AI, while others were closer to an eighth. There were plenty of celebrities who opted for what could be considered a more natural aesthetic, which used very small amounts of AI alteration — if any at all. This and other cases have caused recent controversy and have brought celebrity photo editing back into the broader conversation.

Celebrities and AI Deepfakes

AI isn't only used to edit a celebrity's photos but in a new kind of content: "deepfake" videos. These videos use AI or another technology to superimpose someone's likeness onto another person's body. This has been done both humorously and maliciously, ranging from cases of lighthearted impersonation to the deliberate spread of misinformation.

Celebrities and AI Chatbots

AI chatbots are another popular way to interact with the technology, with some even being used to simulate romantic relationships. The technology isn't limited to generating visuals; it's also increasingly used in conversational settings. Beyond image manipulation, AI is being integrated into other areas of digital interaction. AI chatbots, for instance, are becoming more sophisticated, with some even designed to simulate romantic relationships. Platforms, some controversial like HeraHaven, offer users the chance to interact with an AI girlfriend, blurring the lines between reality and virtual companionship. These platforms, while offering an immersive experience, raise concerns about emotional attachment to virtual entities and the future of human relationships.

A Concern Surrounding Authenticity

The line between reality and AI technology is only being blurred further, raising questions of transparency, ethics, and authenticity. The role of image generation technology is a controversial one, and whether celebrities are using AI to edit their photos or not is perhaps a trivial concern.

On Sunday, March 30, Donald Trump's personal spiritual advisor, Mark Burns, took to X to encourage the president to send weapons to Ukraine as the country attempts to stave off the Russian invasion.
"These soldiers on the front lines are not asking for money. They are asking for 1,000 tanks, 300 F-35s, anti-air weapons to shoot down the drones that still fire at civilian buildings and kill people," he wrote, adding that "it was President Trump who sent Javelins instead of pillows" to Ukraine.
"President Trump is the innocent civilian of Ukraine's greatest friend. He will bring an end to this war. Everyone here in Ukraine is thanking President Trump and America for standing with Ukraine," he continued.

Donald Trump's personal spiritual advisor Mark Burns – whom Time magazine once labeled "Trump's Top Pastor" – visited Ukraine at the behest of Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman. According to Mediaite, over the weekend of March 29, Burns toured several cities that were hard-hit by Russia including Bucha, Borodianka and Irpin. He later took to X to share a highlight reel from the trip. The video shows Burns meeting with Ukrainian faith leaders, visiting churches and memorial sites and witnessing the general destruction.
"The war in Ukraine is bigger than Democrats or Republicans, the Left or the Right. Whether you dislike President Trump or [Ukranian] President [Volodymyr] Zelensky, real people are dying here," he captioned the video.

Mark Burns went on to detail the devastation faced by the Ukrainian people: "20,000 children have been kidnapped and stolen to Russia. 300 women were recently [assaulted], as reported by multi-faith religious leaders. 700 religious buildings have been destroyed on purpose because they are often the only source of hope offered to the Ukrainian people. Innocent non-soldiers shot in the back of the head with their hands tied behind their backs," Donald Trump's personal spiritual advisor continued.  
"We in America know how fake news lies constantly about our great President Trump. Well, it exists here too to sway popular opinion. When I'm seeing pictures of dead bodies of children and old people, or hear firsthand accounts of pastors having their hands tied behind their backs made to get on their knees and shot in the back of their heads, or the very young citizen soldiers who took up arms getting blown to pieces by attack drones thanking President Trump and begging for more ammunition to defend their homes, young wives, and children, I care less about whether you like President Zelensky or don't want to give more money to Ukraine," Burns wrote.

Mark Burns concluded his lengthy post, "Pray with me that peace comes quickly in Jesus's name! And no, I've not been paid by no one. I was invited by [Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman], who's done so much to help the refugees in Ukraine. For him and me, it's not about politics, it's about human lives."
"My loyalty is first to the Lord Jesus Christ and second to my nation and president, Donald J. Trump," he added.

In early March, Donald Trump paused military aide to Ukraine. He's since pushed for a minerals deal that would see Ukraine reimbursing the U.S. for any assistance warding off Russia. But on March 30, Trump told NBC News that Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, was "trying to back out of the rare earth deal." Russia, meanwhile, has said that it cannot accept the current proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

If Donald Trump were to run as J.D. Vance's running mate in 2028, it would open the door for the former reality star to secure another four years in the White House.
"There's also a cost to this that may not be fair to people like Vance or others who are going to run," Jonathan Turley said. "And that all of this talk tends to diminish them."
"Part of Trump's legacy will be securing the White House for a Republican," he added. "And this type of talk reduces figures like Vance to sort of Mini-Mes, and that's not a good thing for them."

"It's not fair to people like [J.D.] Vance. So, this does appear [to be] something of a jump scare," Jonathan Turley continued, as the loophole would stunt the vice president's political mobility.
"With the exception of amending the Constitution, it does not seem particularly credible," he added.

During a Monday, March 31, meeting with the press in the Oval Office alongside pal Kid Rock, Donald Trump stated he would love to run against Barack Obama if the constitution is amended to allow the two of them a third term.
"I'd love that — that would, that would be a good one," he said of the idea, according to the New York Post. "I know people are asking me to run. And this whole story about running for a third term, I don't know. I never looked into it. They do say there's a way you can do it, but I don't know about that. But I have not looked into it. According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump's administration is currently reviewing more than $255 million in funding from the government to Harvard University as they investigate what the school is doing to stop antisemitism on campus. $8.7 billion in grant commitments to the establishment and its affiliates are also being evaluated.
The federal task force recently slashed $400 million from Columbia University after determining they allegedly weren't strict enough when it came to students protesting against the war in Gaza. Columbia eventually complied with the agency's guidelines.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon claimed Harvard has put their reputation on the line by "promoting divisive ideologies over free inquiry."
"Harvard can right these wrongs and restore itself to a campus dedicated to academic excellence and truth-seeking, where all students feel safe on its campus," she said in a statement.

Princeton University was reportedly penalized by having $210 million in federal funding paused while Donald Trump's administration evaluated their protocol.
"Princeton has perpetuated racist and antisemitic policies," an official from the agency claimed to the Daily Caller.
Per the university's annual report, in 2024 — under former President Joe Biden — Princeton received $456 million in funding from government grants and contracts.

In April 2024, conservative writer Zachary Marschall filed a complaint with the DOE about Princeton's alleged lack of response over the rampant antisemitism.
"The violent words of these protesters completely disregard the atrocities Hamas has already committed and promises to commit in the future against the people of Israel, including raping, murdering and kidnapping civilians," the editor-in-chief of the conservative website Campus Reform claimed in the complaint.

When Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, he vowed to combat the rise in antisemitism across the country.

Donald Trump shared with fans that the White House is still focused on preserving its cultural significance.
"Working together with a fantastic and very talented Executive Residence Staff, along with the wonderful people at the National Park Service, we are making tremendous enhancements to the White House, thereby preserving and protecting History," Trump wrote on Sunday, March 30.

"One of the interesting dilemmas is a tree planted many years ago by the Legendary President and General, Andrew Jackson," Donald Trump continued. "It is a Southern Magnolia that came from his home, The Hermitage, in Tennessee."

Donald Trump also clarified that the tree isn't healthy enough to keep.
"That's the good news! The bad news is that everything must come to an end, and this tree is in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, at the White House Entrance, no less, and must now be removed," he stated.

While fans might be disappointed about the Jackson Magnolia trees being cut down, the White House will find a way to reuse them.
"This process will take place next week, and will be replaced by another, very beautiful tree," Donald Trump explained. "The Historic wood from the tree will be preserved by the White House Staff, and may be used for other high and noble purposes!!!"

Though Donald Trump explained that the trees were unwell, critics were still outraged by the announcement.

"People need to see that image," Kristi Noem told host Bret Baier about the shot of herself surrounded by the shirtless, tattooed men incarcerated at the facility.
"They need to see that the United States is going to use every tool that we have to make our communities safer, that that is a consequence of someone who is a terrorist," she explained. "The only people allowed in that prison are terrorists. And to tour that and to look at that, was giving the American people the transparency that they want out of their government."

Donald Trump later clarified to Kristen Welker that he is serious about his political future.
"Well, that's one [scenario]," Trump stated. "But there are others too. There are others."
"Sir, I'm hearing – you don't sound like you're joking," Wekler said. "I've heard you joke about this a number of times."
"No, no I'm not joking," Trump responded. "I'm not joking … But, I'm not – it is far too early to think about it."

Donald Trump went on to call himself a workaholic while talking to the NBC journalist.
"Would you want to serve a third term, sir?" Kristen Welker asked.
"Well, I like working," Trump admitted.

Despite his tone, Donald Trump ruled out a 2028 run while campaigning for the 2024 presidency last year.
"I think that will be — that will be it," Trump told Sharyl Attkisson last September when asked about running again if he lost to Kamala Harris. "I don't see that at all."

Recently, Donald Trump's former White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, confirmed the president isn't ready to part ways with his role.
"We're working on it," Bannon said on Tuesday, March 18, while discussing a third Trump presidency. "I think we'll have a couple of alternatives, let's say that. We'll see what the definition of term limit is."

On Bill Maher's HBO show, Real Time With Bill Maher, he didn't hold back his feelings on Donald Trump and his MAGA fanbase.
During the Friday, March 28, episode, the host slammed the right-wing politician's loyalists, accusing them of having "Trump devotion syndrome."

"Yeah, all these super macho guys eating the a** of another man," he quipped during the broadcast.

Days later, Donald Trump called out Bill Maher for criticizing him but made clear he is trying to put his feelings aside to please Kid Rock.
"I got a call from a very good guy and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher," the commander-in-chief wrote in a Sunday, March 30, message on Truth Social. "I really didn't like the idea much and don't like it much now but thought it would be interesting."
Trump then pinpointed exactly why he isn't eager to sit down with the funnyman. "The problem is, no matter how much he likes your favorite president, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc., very much like the Democrats at my recent Address to the Joint Session of Congress, where I stated, correctly, that no matter what I said or did, they wouldn't stand, they wouldn't applaud, they wouldn't smile or laugh and certainly, they wouldn't be in any way 'nice,'" he noted. "Who knows, though, maybe I'll be proven wrong? In any event, I'm doing a favor for a friend. I look forward to meeting with Bill Maher, Kid Rock and I believe, even the Legendary Dana White will be present."
"It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!" Trump teased.

Kid Rock recently spoke with Bill Maher during an episode of his "Club Random" podcast, where he claimed a meeting between Donald Trump and the television star "could set a huge precedent for the world."
In a recent podcast installment, Maher defended his decision to meet with The Apprentice alum at the musician's request, explaining, "There will be lots of people on the left who will be like, 'How dare you talk to this man.' It's like f*** you, I'm not playing this game that you mean girls play.'"

Despite being a critic of Donald Trump, Bill Maher continuously condemns Democrats over their reactions to the right-wing leader.
"Someone must tell the usual suspects on the far left that the saying is, 'When you're in a hole, stop digging.' Not 'keep digging.' Talk about doubling down on what got you f***** in the first place," the A-lister said during his series in the days after the 2024 election.
"Even the one concession I've heard a few people on the losing side offer — that liberals should stop saying that Trump voters are stupid — comes with a kind of unspoken parentheses. 'We know they are stupid, just don't say it,'" he added.

Musk Calls Governor Walz 'Evil' in Fox News Interview
Elon Musk didn't hold back during his Friday, March 28, apperance on Fox News with anchor Bret Baier, sharply criticizing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. 
Musk condemned the Democratic governor as "evil" and "not a good person," referencing Walz's public mockery of Tesla's stock drop. 
Musk told Baier that Walz, the 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee, was a "creep" for appearing to take joy in Tesla's financial struggles.

Musk on Tesla's Challenges Amid Political Targeting
In the interview, Brett Baier asked Elon Musk about mounting criticism over Tesla's cost-cutting and job reductions under the Donald Trump administration. 
Musk pushed back on suggestions that his political ties had benefited his companies. "It's actually disadvantageous for me to be in the government," he said. "Not advantageous. If I wasn't in the government, I could lobby. And I could push for things that are advantageous to my companies and probably get it, probably receive it. My companies are suffering because I'm in the government. You just pointed that out a moment ago."
Musk Slams Walz's Tesla Joke: 'What a Creep'
Elon Musk became visibly frustrated when describing a moment involving Tim Walz's public comments about Tesla. 
"Think it would help sales if dealerships are being firebombed? Of course not. And Tesla customers are being intimidated all over the country and all over Europe. Does that help Tesla? I mean, you have Tim Walz, who's a huge jerk, running on stage with the Tesla stock price has gone in half and he was overjoyed. What an evil thing to do. What a creep, what a jerk," Musk said. 

The DOGE head further observed, "Like, who derives joy from that? And it was pointed out to him that actually, you know, the Minnesota state pension fund is a major investor in Tesla. But he didn't care. He was so overjoyed by Tesla stock going down. Does that sound like a good person to you? I don't think so."
Walz Responds to Musk: 'I Was Making a Joke'
The controversy began when Tim Walz made a light-hearted comment during a Wisconsin town hall last week. "Some of you know this. On the iPhone, they've got that little stock app. I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day — $225 and dropping," he said, prompting laughter from the audience. 
After it was revealed that Minnesota's public pension fund holds around 1.8 million Tesla shares, Walz walked back the seriousness of his comment, saying, "I was making a joke. These people have no sense of humor. They are the most literal people."
Social Media Reactions
The incident sparked wide discussion online. 
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted on X, "Elon Musk just slaughtered Tim Walz over him celebrating Tesla stock being down."
Tesla fans on Reddit's r/TeslaMotors subreddit expressed disappointment in political attacks, with one user writing, "Whatever your politics, cheering a company's collapse when your constituents' pensions are tied to it is just reckless."
