The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reportedly allocated substantial funds to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the years leading up to the catastrophic wildfires currently devastating Los Angeles County.

These fires have rapidly consumed thousands of acres, resulting in two fatalities and the destruction of approximately 1,000 properties. Residents and critics let their frustrations out on X, with one sharing, "Sure, let's let people roast to a cinder and destroy countless lives… but as long as we stay woke in the process right? Disgrace. California is finished folks."

Budget Breakdown: Millions for DEI Staffing

City budget documents from the 2022 to 2023 fiscal year reveal a $673,810 dollar operational request for "Equity and Inclusion Staffing."

Reports show this funding was intended for a new Human Resources Bureau to implement a strategic diversity and inclusion plan, mediate conflicts, mitigate complaints, grievances and lawsuits to foster a more positive work environment.

There has been a spike in human metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in China, leading to concerns about another Covid-like epidemic happening in the U.S.

Currently, hospitals in Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Indiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Massachusetts and New York have begun requiring — or strongly urging — visitors to wear their masks to curb the rate of infection.
According to Daily Mail, infections caused by HPMV are three times the national average in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

HMPV is a virus with symptoms similar to a common cold, but it can lead to a lower respiratory infection similar to pneumonia.
Dr. Carla Garcia Carreno, a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist at PID Associates and the Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control at Children's Medical Center Plano, addressed the public's worry about HPMV.
"The concern for a pandemic can be put at rest," Carreno told CBS News. "This has been circulating for a while, so people have some immunity against this human metapneumovirus."

Cases of HMPV have been on the rise in the U.S., as the CDC found 1.94 percent — or 13,800 people — tested positive for it the week of December 28, 2024.

According to the BBC, HMPV, which was first noticed in 2001 in the Netherlands, spreads through direct contact with an infected person, in addition to touching contaminated surfaces.

The most common symptoms associated with HMPV include: cold, cough, fever, nasal congestion and shortness of breath.
If an individual thinks they've contracted HMPV, their local healthcare provider will be able to test them for it. However, there currently is no treatment for HMPV.

There is no FDA-approved shot for HMPV either, but there could be another way to prevent it.
"There is no vaccine available for this virus but if you have taken a flu shot, the three vaccine doses of COVID virus, you already have immunity," surgical oncologist Vishal Rao told the Economic Times.

With winter infection rates rising, medical professionals recommend sanitizing high-touch areas such as doorknobs, light switches and table tops.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Denise Richards opened about being assaulted in her teens while on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.

During the Season 3 premiere, Richards struggled to complete a helicopter extraction, as the incident reminded her of her painful past.

Richards was visibly unable to lift herself to the helicopter's cabin during the challenge, which is taken from the actual Army Special Forces selection process.

"I really want to learn how to not be overwhelmed by fear," Richards admitted on the show. "I've been through traumatic situations that have been very terrifying for me. I want to learn how to deal with those issues and be stronger."

In the episode, the Directing Staff informed Richards that she seemed like a "deer in headlights" at the time.

"It's hard. I'm completely out of my comfort zone," the Good Advice star said. "I'm not petrified. I'm emotional right now."

Richards reflected on a traumatic incident that occurred while in the car with her husband, Aaron Phypers.
"We were driving. He wanted to take me to [a] set," she said. "He didn't want me going alone, thank God, and we were physically shot at in his truck, and I sat on the floor and was just literally, I peed. I was so scared… I froze."

The 53-year old later described something that happened when she was an adolescent.
"The first time I ever experienced that I was 15 and I noticed a man following me," she continued. "He came up from behind me, put his hand around my mouth, grabbed my v——, and started dragging me, and I froze, like I couldn't even scream for help."

Richards, who has three children, Sami, Lola and Eloise, said she wants to protect her girls at all times.
"It's so scary to have that situation, you know, that age and be so vulnerable," the actress admitted. "And I have three daughters, and I want them to be able to never go through that. And also, if something, God forbid, happen to be strong enough."
"I think that I haven't addressed a lot of what I have gone through, and it's very terrifying. I don't know if I would be able to get over my past," she continued.

School of Rock stars Angelo Massagli and Caitlin Hale enjoyed a "time capsule" wedding on Saturday, January 4, at the Park Château Estate & Gardens in East Brunswick, NJ.

The pair's paths initially crossed when they were just 10 years old while auditioning for School of Rock — a film in which Jack Black plays a rock and roll artist who builds a band with an elementary school music class.

Massagli was wowed by his spouse from an early age.

"I remember my first audition for School of Rock like it was yesterday," Massagli told The New York Times. "I get in there and the little blonde girl next to me, she gets called in first and she starts singing show tunes and just blows the roof off the place. It was excellent."

"I was like, 'Wow, that girl's really, really, really something else,'" he added.

The cast of School of Rock, which hit theaters in 2003, reunited to attend Massagli and Hale's ceremony. According to Hale, the group remained close over the years and quickly became friends while making the project.

Rivkah Reyes, who played Katie, shared a video from the event on TikTok, and the social media post included costars Brian Falduto, Joey Gaydos Jr., Robert Tsai, Maryam Hassan, Aleisha Allen and Cole Hawkins.

Hale and Massagli, who played Marta and Frankie, respectively, stepped away from acting to pursue more traditional career paths.
The couple reconnected back in 2018 while living in South Florida. Hale now works as an OB-GYN sonographer and Massagli, now a lawyer, is the music product counsel for TikTok.

As the twosome, who now live in New York, got reacquainted, Hale predicted they would eventually tie the knot.
"I knew very early," Hale told The New York Times. "I actually said to one of my close friends, I remember being in an Uber on the way down to Miami one weekend and we were going out and I was like, 'I think I'm gonna marry this guy.'"

Baldoni Secures the Film Rights to 'It Ends With Us'

Baldoni's Wayfarer Studios secured the movie rights to Colleen Hoover's It Ends With Us in 2019, and the Jane the Virgin star was immediately enthusiastic about turning the book into a movie.

However, once the project hit theaters, fans quickly noticed Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Jenny Slate and Hoover no longer followed Baldoni on Instagram. Baldoni's visible isolation fueled conspiracy theories online about what went down on set.

Wedding Sparks Outrage

While doing press for It Ends With Us, Lively's past interviews began to trend on social media platforms such as X, formerly known as Twitter, and TikTok.

Lively and her husband tied the knot at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, S.C. — which features nine slave cabins.

Lively and Reynolds apologized for the decision, but the wedding venue left a stain on their reputations.

Is Blake Lively a Mean Girl?

Kjersti Flaa shared her 2016 interview with the Gossip Girl alum around the time It Ends With Us premiered, where Lively appeared to body shame the entertainment journalist.

Flaa congratulated Lively, who was pregnant at the time, on her "little bump."
Lively quickly quipped, "Congrats on your little bump," but unlike the actress, Flaa wasn't expecting and was dealing with fertility issues.

Blake Lively Was Branded as 'Insensitive'

Once the film hit theaters, social media users quickly noticed that Baldoni discussed the project's main focus, domestic violence, while Lively chose to promote her haircare brand, Blake Brown, and seemingly avoided talking about abusive relationships.

Conservative television personality Meghan McCain branded Lively's behavior as "very insensitive" and "strange."

Blake Lively Takes Legal Action

In December 2024, Lively filed a legal complaint and lawsuit against Baldoni and his production company accusing the director of sexual harassment. Along with creating a hostile work environment, Lively claimed Baldoni orchestrated a smear campaign against her. The fashionista's 2016 interview with Flaa was referenced by the The New York Times.

Baldoni wasn't the only Wayfarer employee named in the complaint, as Wayfarer's chief executive officer, Jamey Heath, was accused of engaging in "inappropriate and unwelcome behavior toward Ms. Lively and others on the set."

Wayfarer's co-founder Steve Sarowitz, independent contractor Jed Wallace and publicists Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel, were also named in the documents.

"I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted," Lively said in a statement to The New York Times.

Baldoni Responds

Baldoni's lawyer Bryan Freedman told People that Lively's litigious behavior was her attempt to "fix her negative reputation," adding that her allegations are "false, outrageous and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt."

In Lively's suit, she included extensive texts from Wayfarer's team, but Baldoni's legal representative accused the mom-of-four of "cherry-picking" the messages.

Baldoni vs. The New York Times

On December 31, 2024, Baldoni filed a $250 million lawsuit against the The New York Times for libel. Baldoni accused the outlet of publishing an article "rife with inaccuracies, misrepresentations, and omissions" that leaned on Lively's "self-serving narrative."

What Did Ryan Reynolds Do?

Reynolds contributed to the development of It Ends With Us. However, from Baldoni's perspective, Reynolds was an intimidating figure.
"Reynolds launched into a tirade, berating Baldoni in what Baldoni later described as a 'traumatic' encounter, stating he had 'never been spoken to like that in his life,' " Baldoni's complaint alleges.
The actor was seen in New York City in January in his first outing since the drama exploded.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill took to Instagram to reveal he left due to the inferno. "Personal Fire Update: 7 p.m.- Evacuated Malibu so last-minute there [were] small fires on both sides of the road as we approached the PCH [Pacific Coast Highway]," he wrote.
"8:15 p.m. – Marilou, Trixie and I arrive at Chelsea's in Hollywood. Most horrific fire since '93. STAY SAFE!" he added, referring to his wife, dog and his daughter's home.

The Hills stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag revealed their home completely burnt down. "Nightmare came true," the father-of-two wrote in a social media post about the disaster.

"I was like, we're either going to break up or stay together forever," she told the outlet. "It was great, he's a great director and that didn't surprise me either because his brain is operating on another level — he's too smart and he's got so many opinions and he's a very confident person that always knows what he wants."

On 2017's The Little Hours, Plaza and Baena's working dynamic showcased their unique blend of personal and professional collaboration, with Plaza sharing, "I've worked with Jeff since his first movie. The Parks and Recreation alum described the quirky setup on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying, "I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. This project marked Plaza's directorial debut, further exemplifying their collaborative spirit. While chatting with GQ in 2022 about her role as Harper in The White Lotus, the Black Bear star gave a rare glimpse into her relationship with Baena. Moore got her big break in 1985 after being cast in St. Elmo's Fire — a film that follows a group of friends navigating post-grad life. Moore's role as Jules placed the then-22-year-old on the public's radar.
Moore, who won a Golden Globe for her role in The Substance, gave a heartwarming acceptance speech while addressing the pressure placed on women in Hollywood.

When Gomez first shared on Instagram that Blanco popped the question, bestie Taylor Swift couldn't contain her excitement. "Yes I will be the flower girl," the pop icon said in the Instagram comments section.

Aside from wedding planning, Kimmel couldn't help but make an NSFW joke about Gomez and Blanco during their time on-air. "It's not traditional and it's not necessarily a practical gift, but I think you and Benny are really going to enjoy it," Kimmel told the Rare Beauty founder. "It's called the Daddy Saddle."

"You can ride around on Benny in a very wholesome way. I don't want you to think that anything is being suggested here that isn't," Kimmel said to a seemingly embarrassed Gomez as he handed her the gift.

Jeremy Jackson's Ex Loni Willison Spotted Digging Through Dumpsters in L.A.: Photos

Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson's ex-wife, Loni Willison, went from being a magazine cover star to living on the streets of Los Angeles, Calif.

On Wednesday, January 1, the former model was spotted digging through garbage and retrieving a Christmas tree.

During the pair's two-year marriage, Willison's mental health declined.

"The woman I was in love with is gone, and whoever she is mentally now is not who I knew," Jackson told Daily Mail.

In 2014, the blonde beauty later accused Jackson of attempting to murder her, leading to union ending with an explosive 9-1-1 call.

"I'm done, I'm done. Don't put me in jail. Babe please, please don't put me in jail," Jackson was caught yelling at his then-wife in a recording.

"He jumped me, he jumped me. He jumped me and broke my TV. He broke my phone," Willison screamed in her saved audio.

In 2018, it was revealed that Willison had been kicked out of her apartment after being seen looking through dumpsters. She was almost unrecognizable, as the glamorous look she was once known for had faded. The blonde beauty later shared that she was evicted after struggling to find work.

"I lost two jobs and everything crumbled. It's been two years, I've been on the streets since," she told Daily Mail in 2018.

While remaining unsheltered, Willison gave an interview to X17 Online, in which her comments seemed incoherent.

"I think because [I pick] up on the electricity, I also pick up on other things, like certain chemicals or batteries, or fuses, like wire, different types of metal," she told the outlet in 2023, as Willison claims she can't live "inside" because she believes she was electrocuted. "So I think my body even filters that kind of stuff."

Willison and Jackson both battled addiction publicly and privately, with the former struggling with crystal meth use. In 2018, friend Kristin Rossetti tried to help Willison turn her life around, but she still wanted to abuse substances.

"I just want to get high," she told Rossetti, according to Daily Mail. "I need to get high. No one is listening to me. I need to get out of here.'"

International pop musician Jamie Miller has finally released his debut album, Long Way Home. This 14-track record encapsulates the spirit of personal growth, emotional problems, and rediscovering oneself in the middle of chaos. Miller's debut album follows in the footsteps of his previously released single of the same name. The album is a celebration of the precious moments in life, such as taking the long way home to spend extra time with someone you love deeply.

A Personal Journey of Rediscovery

In Long Way Home, Miller reveals his most vulnerable and authentic self. Miller lost sight of who he was after leaving his small-town roots in Wales and experiencing culture shock when he moved to Los Angeles. Surrounded by relationships and events that questioned his identity, he fell into a deep despair.

Stylist Adri Zgirdea Toth helped Caitlin put the look together, she told Marie Claire, explaining, "Dressing an athlete for the draft is a first for Prada, and this is obviously a first for Caitlin too. Both are at the forefront of what they do — it's almost too perfect."

On May 9, Victoria Beckham and her son, Cruz Beckham, both shared a new clip of the impromptu Spice Girls reunion that went down at Posh's 50th birthday party in April 2024. In the video, the '90s-era girl-group — Victoria, along with Mel B (Melanie Brown), Mel C (Melanie Chisholm), Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton — team up on the mic to sing and giggle their way through their 1996 hit "Mama." The cute clip also shows Cruz strumming along to his real-life mama's song on guitar before Mel B cracks everyone up by asking if they're in tune.

In honor of their mini-reunion, join us for a stroll down Spice Girls memory lane, starting with this shot of the then-newly minted pop stars we originally knew as Posh, Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Baby Spice. It was taken on June 15, 1995, just one year after they formed in London and one year before they released "Mama."
