Linda Evangelista, who was regarded as acclaimed photographer Steven Meisel's muse, was one of the fashion industry's most in-demand models in the '90s. The Canadian beauty graced the covers of more than 700 magazines including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, W, Allure, Marie Claire and Rolling Stone. Throughout her modeling career, Linda, who was married to actor Gérald Marie from 1987 to 1993, also appeared on a record number of Vogue Italia covers.

After taking a break, in September 2001, Linda Evangelista made a triumphant return to modeling with an appearance on the cover of Vogue. She went on to appear in campaigns for NARS Cosmetics, Fendi, Ann Taylor and Dolce & Gabbana as well as on the covers of magazines including Harper's Bazaar, Vogue Japan and Vogue Italia. "If you don't look like you did when you're young, it's not good. And, if you try to do something, people say, 'Oh look, she's trying to look young,'" she told the Vancouver Sun about the double standard of aging in the fashion industry. "You just can't win." In 2016 — a decade after she gave birth to son Augustin James, whose father is billionaire François-Henri Pinault (who went on to marry Salma Hayek) — Linda (seen here in 2015) became Erasa Skin Care's creative director and vice president. In 2021, she made headlines when she filed a $50 million lawsuit claiming that a series of seven sessions of CoolSculpting "fat-freezing" procedure she underwent in a dermatologist's office in 2015 and 2016 left her "permanently deformed" and "brutally disfigured," leading her to live in seclusion for almost five years. In February 2022, she sat down with People magazine to talk about the cosmetic procedure gone wrong — and to reveal her body for the first time since her fat-freezing nightmare. She made a triumphant return to the catwalk later that year, walking in the Fendi show during New York Fashion Week in September (seen here).

By the early '90s, Dutch model Karen Mulder had posed for every big designer including Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent. She was everywhere: She won a big contract with Guess, appeared on the cover of Vogue, worked with Victoria's Secret and — the hallmark of every classic model from the era — posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Karen Mulder retired from modeling in 2000 when she was 30. She'd been struggling with depression and in 2001 made shocking rape accusations against her former modeling bosses as well as Prince Albert of Monaco. She spent several months in a psychiatric hospital and the following year survived a suicide attempt. After hopes of launching a music career in the early '00s failed, in 2006, she gave birth to a daughter (she hasn't made the father's identity public). The Netherlands-born beauty made headlines again in 2009 when she was arrested in France after allegedly threatening her plastic surgeon. In more recent years, she's resurfaced in the art and style scene as a frequent guest at Paris Fashion Week as well as photography openings, charity events and award shows in France.

After winning a modeling contest in her native Czechoslovakia when she was just 16, Eva Herzigova moved to Paris and started working the runways. She became a household name when she landed the Wonderbra campaign in 1994 and, like most of the big models of the '90s, found even greater fame posing for Guess jeans ads, the Victoria's Secret catalog and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 1996, she married Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres, but they divorced just two years later.

Eva Herzigova is still a working model. In recent years, she's walked the runway for the likes of Atelier Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexandre Vauthier and fronted ads for Dior Beauty as well as steadily made appearances on magazine covers, though mostly in her native Europe. Eva is also a mom to three boys with her fiancé, Italian businessman Gregorio Marsiaj. Eva closed out the Blumarine and Missoni presentations during Milan Fashion Week in 2022. More recently, she was spotted sitting front row at the Zegna show during Milan Fashion Week in January 2023.

With her waifish figure and child-like appearance, English model Kate Moss ushered in the era of the "anti-supermodel" (which ironically turned her into one) in the '90s when designers, tired of voluptuous and athletic catwalkers, started to promote a look that became known as "heroin chic." Kate's work with Calvin Klein in particular made her a star. And who can forget her tumultuous three-year relationship with Johnny Depp?

Kate Moss might have aged, but her fame has never faltered. She continues to work as much now as she ever did and remains one of the top-earning models in the world. But these days, she's added a few new lines to her resume: She became a mother in 2002, welcoming daughter Lila — who's now a model like her mom — with then-boyfriend Jefferson Hack. Kate married The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince in 2011 and after they went their separate ways in 2015, she moved on with Count Nikolai von Bismarck, a German and British photographer. In addition to designing collaborations with Topshop, Equipment and Longchamp in recent years, Kate launched a jewelry line with Ara Vartanian in 2017 and co-designed a jewelry collection with Valérie Messika in 2021. She also founded the Kate Moss Agency in 2016.

In 2022, she made headlines when she testified on behalf of ex Johnny Depp during his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, disputing claims that the actor pushed her down a set of stairs in the '90s. Kate later explained her decision to BBC Radio 4's "Desert Island Discs," saying, "I know the truth about Johnny. I know he never kicked me down the stairs. I had to say that truth." She rounded out that year posing for a Marc Jacobs campaign.

Tatjana Patitz started modeling in Paris as a teenager in the mid-'80s. She hit her stride in the '90s, modeling for Chanel, Versace, Calvin Klein and other huge names and famously appeared in George Michael's classic "Freedom! '90" music video alongside Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. She also enjoyed romances with Johnny Depp and Seal before he married — and divorced — Heidi Klum.

While many of her old modeling peers continued to do high-profile work in the aughts, Tatjana Patitz happily scaled back. She instead spent time at her Malibu ranch with her son, Jonah, and a menagerie of animals including horses, dogs and cats. But as Jonah entered his teen years, Tatjana, who lived in Santa Barbara, California, slowly returned to the spotlight. The model became the face and body of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, scored a beauty contract with L'Oreal Paris and appeared on the cover of French Marie Claire in 2017. "There's an appetite for women to see women of all ages [now]," she told The Telegraph in April 2017, explaining that she was glad she took a break from the industry. "I wasn't interested in weaning [my son] as quickly as possible and getting back to work. I wanted to enjoy it and be a mom." More recently, Tatjana was an advocate for trafficked and poached animals, combating environmental damage and preventing climate change. In 2019, she returned to the runway during Milan Fashion Week, walking in Etro's Autumn/Winter 2019-2020 presentation — her first big runway in years. On Jan. 11, 2023, Tatjana died at 56 following a battle with breast cancer.

Claudia Schiffer, who's appeared on more than 1,000 magazine covers, became a household name in the '90s thanks to her star-making campaigns as the face of Guess and Chanel. The German beauty was also famously engaged to magician David Copperfield from 1994 to 1999.

Claudia Schiffer hasn't stopped modeling, although her career has slowed down a bit. "The advertising industry is very much taken nowadays by pop stars and actresses," she told German magazine Fivetonine in 2007. In 2002, Claudia — who launched a successful cashmere clothing line in 2011 — married "X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn. They have three kids together: Caspar, Clementine and Cosima. In 2017, Claudia released a self-titled book to mark her 30th anniversary in the fashion industry.

Niki Taylor was one of the most successful supermodels of the '90s thanks to her captivating glamour and girl-next-door beauty. She first appeared on the cover of Seventeen at just 14 years old. She later graced the covers of Cosmopolitan and Vogue and was a star of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She also landed big modeling contracts with Liz Claiborne and Cover Girl.

After struggling to cope with the sudden death of her little sister, model Krissy Taylor, in 1996, followed by her own near-fatal car accident in 2001, Niki Taylor eventually found peace again. She still occasionally models and appears on reality shows — she competed on "The Apprentice" in 2011 and appeared on a 2015 episode of "Say Yes to the Dress" — but her main focus is her family. Niki lives just outside of Nashville with her second husband, NASCAR driver-turned-airline pilot Burney Lamar and their son, Rex, and daughter, Ciel. In 2017, Niki told the New York Post that Ciel would "definitely love to model" and that son Hunter, from Niki's first marriage to Matt Martinez, had already walked in multiple runway shows. Niki returned to her modeling roots as the face of Jennifer Fisher's spring 2017 jewelry campaign. In 2019, she signed with One Management, and in 2021, she reignited her partnership with CoverGirl — she previously worked with the beauty brand from 1992 to 2000 — and became the face of its Simply Ageless collection.

German model Heidi Klum's fame exploded when she became a Victoria's Secret Angel in 1997 and really skyrocketed when she landed the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue a year later. Her career continued to flourish in the '00s.

Heidi Klum isn't just one of the world's highest paid models today — she's also become a huge TV star thanks to her role as host, judge and executive producer of the successful reality show "Project Runway," for which she won an Emmy in 2013. That same year, she started appearing as a judge on "America's Got Talent." More recently, she voiced a character in 2019's "Arctic Dogs" and launched yet another fashion-centric reality show, Amazon Prime's "Making the Cut," which debuted in 2020. The mother of four split from second husband Seal in 2012 and went on to romance bodyguard Martin Kirsten and art dealer Vito Schnabel before falling in love with Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz. They quietly wed in 2019.

Christy Turlington rose to fame in the '90s after appearing in Calvin Klein's Eternity campaign. Throughout the decade, the American supermodel was featured in several noteworthy campaigns for brands including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Versace. In 1987 at just 17, Christy was featured in Duran Duran's "Notorious" music video. This wasn't the only music video she appeared in — she was featured alongside fellow supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz and Cindy Crawford in George Michael's "Freedom! '90" clip in 1990.

Despite making her debut decades ago, Christy Turlington's career has continued to thrive over the years. In addition to gracing magazine covers and walking in runway shows, she's penned editorial pieces for publications including Marie Claire, Teen Vogue and Huffington Post. In 2010, Christy — who in 1999 graduated from New York University after studying comparative religion and Eastern philosophy and later continued her lust for learning at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health — made her directorial debut with the documentary "No Woman, No Cry," which explores maternal mortality. That same year, she founded the charity organization Every Mother Counts, which works to ensure safe pregnancy and childbirth practices throughout the world. In 2019, Christy was one of 15 women featured on the cover of British Vogue's September issue. In 2000, she began dating actor-writer Edward Burns, though they briefly split in 2002 before marrying in 2003. They share two children: daughter Grace and son Finn.

Naomi Campbell's career took off shortly before her 16th birthday when a talent scout spotted the 5-foot-9 British beauty out shopping. Her career soon skyrocketed and Naomi went on to grace the covers of multiple high-profile magazines, walk countless runways and star in George Michael's "Freedom! '90" video with fellow supermodels Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford.

Naomi Campbell is still a working model as well as a coveted guest on the global party and charity circuit. Since 1999, Naomi has released more than a dozen fragrances for her eponymous perfume line. She's broken boundaries as the first Black model to appear on the cover of French Vogue, American Vogue's September issue and Italian Vogue. She's also keen on philanthropy and is the founder of the Fashion for Relief charity. In early 2020, she launched a hit web series, "No Filter with Naomi." That same year, she was also featured as a judge on the Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn-presented reality competition series "Making the Cut." Naomi — who's never been married but has dated a slew of famous men (her last high-profile romance was with Russian businessman Vladislav Doronin from 2008 to 2013, though in recent years, she's also been linked to Liam Payne, Skepta and Rihanna ex Hassan Jameel) — told ES Magazine in May 2017, "I think about having children all the time. But now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want." In May 2021, Naomi revealed she'd welcomed her first child — a daughter — just days before her 51st birthday. In 2022, she posed with her baby girl on the cover of British Vogue's March issue, telling the magazine, "She wasn't adopted, she's my [biological] child."

Laetitia Casta found international fame not long after she was discovered by a modeling scout on a beach in her native France at 15. She became a Guess girl in 1993 and was soon flaunting her trademark voluptuous curves in the pages of the Victoria's Secret catalog and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In 1998, Rolling Stone magazine featured her — sans clothing — on the cover of its annual Hot issue, declaring Laetitia the model of the year.

Although Laetitia Casta still does a little modeling — she was the face of Dolce & Gabbana's Intense fragrance in 2013 — she successfully transitioned to acting in the late '90s. She primarily works on French-language films although Americans might recognize her as Richard Gere's mistress in the 2012 drama "Arbitrage." Laetitia is a mom now too. She had a daughter with director Stephane Sednaoui in 2001 and welcomed a boy in 2006 and a girl in 2009 with her ex, Italian actor Stefano Accorsi. She married actor Louis Garrel in 2017 and gave birth to their first child together, a son, in 2021. He directed her in 2019's "A Faithful Man," in which he and model-actress Lily-Rose Depp also appeared. In 2020, Laetitia made her return to modeling in Yves Saint Laurent's fall campaign. She's seen here on the runway during the Ami Fall/Winter showcase during Paris Fashion Week in 2022.

After being discovered while working at a McDonald's in Quebec, Yasmeen Ghauri quickly became a successful model. She found fame after gracing the cover of ELLE's January 1991 issue then became the face of Chanel and Jil Sander and went on to walk for luxury brands like Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier and Lanvin. She subsequently appeared in campaigns for Christian Dior, Anne Klein and Valentino, graced the cover of Vogue Italia and was featured in editorials for both Vogue Italia and British Vogue. In 1992, Yasmeen was the first woman of South Asian descent to become a Victoria's Secret Angel.

While Yasmeen Ghauri (seen here in 1997) enjoyed a quick rise to fame in the fashion industry, she stepped back from the spotlight early in her career. In 1996, she retired from modeling to focus on starting a family with husband Ralph Bernstein. They share a daughter, Maia.

Peruvian-Danish model Helena Christensen started catwalking at 20 and within just a few years had landed a prestigious contract with Revlon, worked with every major fashion designer and even seduced music lovers with her star-making turn in Chris Isaak's 1991 black-and-white video for "Wicked Game." In 1999, she also co-founded fashion magazine Nylon and served as its original creator director. The Victoria's Secret Angel had a wild personal life too: She dated INXS frontman Michael Hutchence in the early '90s before settling down with "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus, with whom she had son Mingus in 1999.

Helena Christensen has continued to model, but in recent years she's also started working behind the camera. "I was always absorbing whatever was going on around me, and then I used that for my photography career," Helena — whose photos have appeared in Vogue, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, Black Book and many more magazines — told Yahoo! Beauty in 2014. "I'm extremely grateful that I was able to do both these careers at once." Helena launched her first fragrance, Dead of Night, in 2015 and her second, Melt My Heart, in 2016. Helena, who split with Norman Reedus in 2003, dated Interpol frontman Paul Banks for a decade between 2008 and 2018.

Shalom Harlow started modeling right out of high school after a scout discovered her at one of The Cure's concerts in her native Canada. "I had never even seen a fashion magazine. I grew up without a television," she told Alexander Wang's "Confessional" web series. "I had no reference point for anything and I was suddenly in Paris on catwalks for designers that I could barely even pronounce their name." She also co-hosted MTV's "House of Style" in the late '90s with fellow supermodel Amber Valletta.

As the '90s drew to a close, Shalom Harlow made headlines for her romance with Peter Sarsgaard (Dita Von Teese has said that Peter cheated on her with the supermodel) and for a handful of acting roles in films including "In & Out" and "Vanilla Sky." In the mid-aughts, she appeared in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and starred in ads for Chanel Skincare, Banana Republic's "Mad Men" collection and Tiffany & Co. Then in 2012, after several years out of the spotlight, she starred in Jason Wu's Fall 2012 campaign. She made her big return to the runway during Milan Fashion Week in September 2018, walking in Versace's Spring/Summer 2019 Ready-to-Wear presentation. More recently, she walked the runway for Ralph Lauren's Fall 2022 presentation.

Arizona-born, Oklahoma-raised model Amber Valletta landed the first of her 16 Vogue covers in the early '90s when she was just 18. She went on to become the face of Calvin Klein's Eternity fragrance. She also posed for the likes of Giorgio Armani and Elizabeth Arden and hosted MTV's "House of Style" with close friend and fellow model Shalom Harlow in the late '90s.

Although Amber Valletta still models regularly, she's shifted gears to focus on acting. She's appeared in movies including "Hitch," "The Family Man" and "What Lies Beneath" as well as on TV shows such as "Revenge," "Legends" and "Blood & Oil." In 2014, Amber — mom to son Auden with her ex, Olympic volleyball player Chip MaCaw — revealed her long struggle with drug and alcohol addiction in a speech for wellness site MindBodyGreen.com. "I had a multimillion [dollar] deal and I showed up the first day to shoot this campaign high and drunk," said Amber, who's now sober. "I didn't care and that's just to show you addiction takes you to the worst places." She made a huge catwalk comeback in 2016's Fall/Winter 2017 fashion shows in New York City, Paris and Milan walking for Isabel Marant, Versace, Dries Van Noten, H&M and Michael Kors and has continued to do runway work since. Amber has been in a relationship with hairstylist Teddy Charles since 2015.

California native Tyra Banks started modeling at 15 and within a few years had moved to Milan. She walked in 25 shows in her first runway season during Paris Fashion Week in 1991. As the '90s went on, Tyra — who dated Seal, John Singleton and Will Smith during her modeling heyday — also became the first Black model to appear on the cover of the Victoria's Secret catalog. She also landed the coveted cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue — twice! — and starred on the fourth season of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

Tyra Banks has transformed herself from a model-actress into an uber-successful entrepreneur. She created and hosted "America's Next Top Model" before fronting her own talk show, for which she won two Daytime Emmys in the late aughts. In 2015, she hosted the panel show "Tyra Banks Presents FABLife" but quit after just three months to focus on her cosmetics company. Her first young adult novel, "Modelland," topped The New York Times bestseller list in 2011. (Her ModelLand theme park is set to open in Santa Monica, California, as soon as the coronavirus pandemic has come to an end.) In 2012, she completed a prestigious nine-week program at Harvard Business School. After hosting two seasons of "America's Got Talent," she took over the hosting duties on the 29th season of "Dancing With the Stars." She also headlined a movie for the first time in nearly two decades when "Life-Size 2" debuted on Freeform in 2018. But that's not all! After welcoming a son, York, via surrogate with her then-boyfriend, Norwegian fashion photographer Erik Asla, in 2016, she found love with Canadian businessman Louis Bélanger-Martin. There were even rumors in mid-2020 that they were engaged, though Tyra denied it.

Cindy Crawford kicked off her career at age 17 when she placed second in Elite Model Management's Look of the Year contest. She went on to pose for some of the biggest names in fashion and hosted MTV's "House of Style" from 1989 to 1995.

Though Cindy Crawford said in 2000 that she was officially retiring from modeling, she's posed for countless brands and magazines since then. The supermodel, who was briefly married to Richard Gere in the '90s, also launched a cosmetics line and a line of furniture. She wed entrepreneur Rande Gerber in 1998 and successfully shepherded their two children, daughter Kaia Gerber and son Presley Gerber, into the world of modeling. And get this: Both Cindy and Kaia walked the runway for Versace's Spring/Summer 2018 presentation during Milan Fashion Week in September 2017! More recently, Cindy walked in Off-White's Fall/Winter presentation during Paris Fashion Week in 2022.

Beverly Peele, who graced the covers of magazines including Vogue, ELLE and Cosmopolitan, began modeling in the late '80s when she was just 12. She appeared on her first magazine cover, for Mademoiselle, in 1989. In addition to being featured in campaigns for brands like Versace, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan, Beverly also walked runways for Prada, Comme des Garcon and John Galliano.

Despite being a major success in her heyday, Beverly Peele took a step back from modeling early in her career to raise her daughter, Cairo, whom she had with ex-partner Jeffrey Alexander in 1993. She's since welcomed three more children: sons Trey and DJ and daughter Storm. In 2017, Beverly appeared alongside daughter Cairo on the Lifetime docu-series "Growing Up Supermodel," which chronicles the blossoming careers of the children of notable models.
